If you have a Menards near you their store brand, Masterforce, is made in USA. They used to have a 9 piece 6 pt socket set which has been discontinued. There are many stores though that still have them in stock. These are made by Apex tools. (Which last I heard is owned by Bain Capital)

You could run 2x4 (laid flat) perpendicular to the existing joists and shim as needed. This then would allow you to to have even spacing between your new "joists" as you could place them on 24" on center. Then apply your dry wall using these joists. Float and tape as usual.

If you have access to a copier you can make a photocopy of the tools. Then you can take the photocopy and cut it out and you will then have a stencil that you can use to paint your tool board.
