See if you get through to talk to an inspector, he'll tell you what you really need to do. With the right info, a drawing on a napkin would most likely work. FTW City Planning can be a bit of a pain, but they seem to be helpful if you are really trying to do it correctly.
I have the Porter-Cable, relatively quiet for an oil less. Works like a champ. I also have the older version of the same compressor. Works fine, loud enough to wake the dead on another continent. New one is quite the improvement.
A heavy snow in Dallas is 4 inches that melts away in 2 days. They aren't building it that way around here for the heavy snow. The frost line is about 2 inches.

Heh, heh, he said snow load. Unless the OP is in the Panhandle, snow load isn't a concern. Our frost line is about 1/2 inch. Wind load is a problem, as well as it turning into an oven from March to October.
