    Lifts in Tight Spaces

I have enough room between the wall and the lift to just walk through. I was concerned about pulling axles also. My biggest fear is having enough room to haul **** if something goes wrong and the car falls. Once I enclose the rv port next to this stall, the wall will come down

need some advice on insulating a steel building

I've been looking into the spray it green. It seems like a do all. Vapor barrier, flame retardant built in, etc. I do plan to finish the walls, not sure on the ceiling short term. Long term I would like the garage to be finished more like a hobby shop than work place. This is my everything: man...

need some advice on insulating a steel building

Hey all, I have a 30 x 60 r-panel building and I'm considering using the spray it green foam insulation. I work out of this building so I will have to do it one section at a time as i can't pull all of the stuff and equipment out at once and spray it all at once. A few questions: 1 How thick...

    Sink in Your Garage?

our old house had one and I used it every day. The new place has a huge garage with no sink and it's driving me nuts! Luckily the previous owner ran water to a garden behind the garage that I can pull from when the time comes.

    questions on loft/attic storage space

Hey all, I'm planning on putting a loft up in my shop to get a little extra storage space. The area will be 20 long by 15 wide. The cross bracing will span the 15 ft width. It is a steel building and I will be using an outside wall to build to. I plan on using 2 2x6 14 gauge c-channels...

    Products Made on Bench Lathes

i'm happiest making something on the lathe. The wife loves hand made gifts. Made her a ring, then a bell, then an aluminum pen. Made my wedding band out of a scrap of titanium. I can't tell you how many jams I've gotten out of by fixing something made of unobtanium.

After 40 years, time to retire

a guy gave me an old tank, I plan to make an oil drain out of it that I can use 15 or 20 psi of air pressure to pump the oil back out of it when it's full. don't want to trust it for high pressure, but a few psi for draining purposes should be fine.

Determining what to charge for welding&fab

for welding I charge a per inch rate, plus a per hole drilled or cut made. then I can look the job over, decide how many holes need drilling, how many cuts, how many inches of weld bead, and add it all up. it comes out to about 60/hr which is close to my hourly rate.

    Sixstring's Garage Build

I always go up with storage when possible. in our old garage the entire attic above the garage held all my parts that didn't get used much. I would build a shelving unit on the left wall all the way to the ceiling that encases the compressor, press, etc. that way you can eliminate the one where...

    Sun Scope Freebie!

i have a sun investigator. bought it in the early 90's for 1500 from a local shop that was upgrading. everything still works. I mostly use it for testing charging systems in lieu of a vat40 or such. I have a carbon pile to load the charging system, then moniter voltage and amps on the sun...

    Buddy system gone wrong $$$

a good friend of mine did some wiring at my shop a long time ago. he didn't have a ladder tall enough to do the job and said that was going to be my fee for the job: buy him the ladder. He's had that ladder fifteen years now. If this guy is really a friend keep him. If he's like most of my...

    metal roof leaks

if I pull the panels off, I fear I won't get them back on before the next rain. has anyone been able to put the sealing tape between the panels without removing them? is there a sealer that can be applied between the panels similar to the tape but easier to get between the panels (caulk gun) ...

    metal roof leaks

I have a 30x60 steel building that the previous owner put up before we bought the house. I've since learned that everything he put his hands on was done half assed. I'm convinced that when they built this "shed" that they did not use any sealing tape on the roof panels as they went down. I can...
