Hobart 187 - My First Mig Welder!

Thanks guys. I'm in the middle of a move so won't be able to use the 187 just yet. Looking forward to a smoother process and the auto-dark. Been watching Chucke2009 and Jody's MIG welding videos on weldingtipsandtricks too. Some great stuff there.

Hobart 187 - My First Mig Welder!

Scored a barely used Hobart 187 yesterday. Seller said he used it to fix bleachers for a local marching band. Included an 80 cuft bottle (mostly full), cart, auto-dark Hobart helmet, welding jacket, gloves, clamp and 3 spools of wire for $425. I'm a weekend warrior without farm equipment and...

    Which Heavy Duty Come-Along?

Wow! Some great discussion here guys. I should clarify that my intent is not to hook the come-along to the Trailazer and stump and just start cranking until the stump pulls out...or heaven forbid the cable snap. Rather just put a "medium" amount of tension on it and chop away at the roots on...

    Which Heavy Duty Come-Along?

I'm looking for a heavy duty come-along...perhaps 4-ton. Have a 12" pine stump to pull out and would also keep it in my Trailblazer for those unfortunate moments when off-road  While a relatively simple device, I know all are not created equal after a reading online reviews. Do you guys...

I've gotta check out that new Maglite Davefr...looks like a good one! 245 lumens is no slouch.

    Streamlight Stylus Pro Flashlight Review

Here are two of my Streamlights. The Stylus Pro gets plenty of use and the Microstream even more...due to its smaller EDC size. Reliable and plenty bright for most tasks in a compact package. Throw in some lithium batteries for even lighter weight and longer run time (especially in cold...

    Beginner's luck--Walker Model 882

Very nice dchasins and I like how you're documenting the resto project. BTW, I'm just down the street from you in Lake Orion. Hopefully, we won't compete too much on Craigslist deals! :D

Anyone know small engines? Weird gas leak.

BTW, do a Youtube search for "carburetor float needle adjustment". This should greatly help understand what I tried to explain above.

Anyone know small engines? Weird gas leak.

The float is inside the carburetor bowl and is used to control the level of gasoline within the bowl. There is a float needle attached to the float. As the float falls, the connected needle falls with it and opens to allow more gas in the bowl. As the float rises, the connected needle rises...

    Scored a Vintage 8" Baldor Grinder...Questions Though

Sure! Unfortunately the parts are for a 7" Baldor grinder though so they wouldn't fit :)

    Scored a Vintage 8" Baldor Grinder...Questions Though

The grinder has been working like a champ and gets used a fair amount. Nothing heavy duty really...just frequently. Love the way it takes a while before coming to a complete stop..a feeling of quality. Must admit with each use, I have an extra bit of satisfaction knowing it didn't always look...

Another Old Craftsman 150 103.24530 Restoration

Looks like you're off to a good start Powerstroke...keep up the good work. I started restoration on a Craftsman 100 DP several months ago. Did an electrolysis bath but its been sitting in pieces since then. Hopefully your resto will provide some gumption to get going again. Carry on soldier!

What do you think about these Craftsman ratchets?

I took the frozen ratchet apart this evening and found this pin was located outside of where it should be (I spread things out a bit for clarity): Here is the pic from MaintenanceGuy showing where the pin should be located: Putting it back together correctly was of course no big deal and...

What do you think about these Craftsman ratchets?

This ratchet just froze up...and hasn't seen hard use either in the 6 months I've had it. Will take it back to Sears but am wondering if others have had this issue with Craftsman's "Premium" ratchets?

Do I Really Need a VFD?

Good catch Larry. I checked with the seller and the VFD is a 220v unit. The voltage doubler (2XV) is sold as a separate item to use with 110/115v...and not cheap :(. However, I have a dedicated 220v line passing overhead in the basement workshop that is used for a stick welder in the garage...

Do I Really Need a VFD?

Thanks Outlaw. The VFD is model ACX2003. I was able to find the following specification sheet for it. Looking at the Table 1, I think it would work but if someone could take a glance, it would be very much appreciated as I'm no electrical genius...just enough to make me dangerous :shocking...

Do I Really Need a VFD?

Hey guys; been away for a while but came across the following motor/VFD setup for my Craftsman 100 DP project: A Fincor ACX motor controller and 1/3hp Baldor motor for $95. Voltage on motor says "208-230/460". I only have 110v in the workshop but wiring a 220v line would be easy enough. Do...
