    Truecraft Tools

TrueCraft tools were made in New Jersey from the 1960s until around 2000. I have a few sockets and a few pullers and they are good stuff. Mine came from an auto parts place that was going out of bussiness. The owner told me he used to sell the TrueCraft tools. They were high quality at a...

Cool find at the dollar store!

TRW purchased Williams in the 60's or early 70's. TRW tools are made by Williams, and are high quality.

    Old catalouges

He's heading down the home stretch on putting all the Craftsman Tool catalogs on CD. I have to admire him for his dedication. He has spent hundreds of hours scanning his catalogs, not to mention the cost of buying them. Those old catalogs ain't cheap!

    Old catalouges

That's a 1959 caralog. The 1960 catalog has the micrometer on it. This was explained by Dave the Tool Man at the Craftsman Club

Craftsman : series time frame ?

Gary I think you have misunderstood what I posted. What I meant was that in the 1960 catalog (using sockets as an example) lists a Master part number and words "state size wanted". The 1964 catalog states a specific part number. An example for a 3/4" drive 7/8" 12 point socket. 1960 says 9M...

Craftsman : series time frame ?

OK, I just looked at a 1960 and a 1964 Craftsman Catalog. Using sockets as an example: The 1960 catalog uses a master part number and then a size for all the sockets. The 1964 catalog lists individual part numbers for each socket. There are no part #'s or series codes shown in the...

Craftsman : series time frame ?

Gary must be thinking about something else, and got confused. He knows model numbers were on 70's tools. I purchased Craftsman tools from 1975 thru 1984 and all of them were numbered. All the sockets, ratchets, and wrenches I bought were "V" series.

Craftsman : series time frame ?

From the 1949 Williams catalog (downloaded from Rose) # 729 Carbon Steel doe - $0.74 #1729 Alloy Steel doe "SUPERRENCH" - $1.27 Gary: I didn't mean to imply that Williams might have made the C-man Vanadiums, only that their numbering system was used.

Craftsman : series time frame ?

Gary #1729 is a Williams # for a 5/8"x3/4" ALLOY steel doe. #729 is a carbon steel doe. I have a #1038C Craftsman Vanadium which I think is 15/16" x 1". I believe Williams #s became the standard beating out Billings. BTW The new Craftsman site really *****. I can't even figure out how to get...

    Duro Ratchet?

Duro also made tools for other companies, that's why it's not marked. It's real, and it is not a prototype.

    Williams S 51 Ratchet Repair

Good News I put the selector in the vise and gently applied pressure. The pin snapped in three pieces. I removed the selector and the pawl. I used a piece of aluminum rivet to replace the pin. I didn't want to use a nail. Bad News I put the pawl, pin, and selector back into the ratchet and...

HUSKY 1/2" drive ratchet Model 24201

I believe that's a Taiwan Home Depot ratchet. Remove the pawl and look inside, I think there is a pin and spring that fits into the housing. Sometimes they pop out and the ratchet only works in one direction. If that fixes it, then use the "Red Lube of Love". I've used it on both old and new...

    Williams S 51 Ratchet Repair

I was thinking of placing the selector in a vise and then twisting the **** out of it until the pin breaks. Good idea or bad? Thanks Old Salvage for all your help.

Craftsman : series time frame ?

Gary I wish I owned those tools from the Brooklyn Navy Yard, they're a piece of history. You might be right about BM = Brazil made. Only one thing, I believe Brazil were made in the SK factory, maybe as an economy line, not in the country of Brazil. Elroy Eddie thanks Elroy.

    Williams S 51 Ratchet Repair

I just took another look for the pin. It's not visable. The only way I'm going to get it apart is to try to force the selector to unscrew and break the pin. I have a bad feeling about this. How did you get yours apart?

    Williams S 51 Ratchet Repair

Thanks! I'll have to go back and look for that pin again. It appears that the bottom of the selector is threaded and once the pin in the pawl is removed, then the selector can be removed and then the pawl should come out. Did you ever get yours apart?
