Holy Frijoles! Post up pics of your Snap On Taco boxes

lookin' good! The top 2 end cab drawers on mine looked like a 500LB gorilla stomped on them. I must have gotten 20 pounds of random bolts, gaskets etc.. just out of those drawers. I fitted ball bearing slides because the sheet metal was so torn up:eek:

Weight capacity in old snap on boxes

I would start with some slide maintenance to see if that would help. if the drawers are hard to open/pull, check the slides. if a bunch of junk is built up in them, a thorough clean up will really help with the drawer function. Snap On can help searching out replacement parts if need be. I have...

JimNC- You're welcome, anyone deranged enough, mm.. I mean determined enough to fix up these old boxes deserves some kudos. They're a lot of work. My taco cart didn't have the landing leg/jack but it did have the hitch bar on the front of it. I took it off and its staying off as it was just...

    1976 Snap On Bicentennial box

nice buy- I have a 537 and its a pretty cool box. not awesomely huge space wise, but the long, narrow drawers can hold all kinds of junk. the stickers were.. uh.. a lot. When I got my boxes all the stickers went bye bye. Enjoy!

    Vintage Mac Tools Chest

If you have the time, some cheap materials(steel wool/scotch brite pads, buffing/polishing compounds and degreasers) and a little elbow grease it will be a fun project. Take it in small bites, a work a couple of drawers and it should be cleaned up and usable in no time. If you take anything off...

Looking good! Very nice, and good job on the wheels. My taco wagon had self tapping sheet metal screws drilled into the casters to keep it from rolling :dunno::eyecrazy:

    Snap on tool box restoration

It's got a decent gloss there are some sanding marks and pits that would not fly at Pebble Beach but it's a tool box! I'd cry if it damaged perfect paint. Plus my custom touch up paint is a trip to Home Depot away👌 Oil and grease will make a mess of the slides for sure. I tried graphite, super...

    Snap on tool box restoration

Sorry about the parts not being available. just keep looking, stuff shows up when you least expect it(like another tool box..) Wet-sanding is the worst!! I went from 400 to 3000 and polished with my HF buffer and Mequiars M105. looks decent, not show car perfect but I'm happy. The old boxes...

cool set! glad your dad decided to pass them on.My dad has my grandpa's boxes, so that hits home. I have 537/557 set and yep the top cover pieces are junk. My box had broken cover pieces and the prior owner had replaced it at least twice.there were parts of at least 2 sets in the top of the...

Good deal on the slides! They sent me 1/2 the slides I needed under warranty, I paid for the other half. Call it tool box karma.. Snap on has great customer service, very nice folks to deal with over the phone. Restoration is a pain with these things. I bought all mine dirt cheap and very...

Classic Snap On Rebuild KR537,KR557, KR74

The drawer slides were available from Snap on as of last year when I restored my 557/537 combo. I called customer service and they took my order over the phone. They have a part number stamped on them, somewhere in the middle. I want to say they were only about 8 bucks a piece, maybe more, but...

Hey jim, I have been doing Snap on box restores as a project for a few years now, KR537/557 combo, side cabinet, and another KR557. Hope yours is going well. I just picked up a taco wagon in May and I'm done with painting drawers and small parts. Main cab is next if I can get a break from the...

    Snap on tool box restoration

caddidadi- I have done some Snap on boxes, 2 KR 557's , 1 KR537, a snappy side cabinet and I'm doing a Taco wagon right now. The KR557's are pretty close to the KR555's so I'm guessing the trim is similar. Mine was beat to death. I cut my losses, and bought some aluminum channel from Home Depot...

    When did screwdrivers become consumable?

I bought a milk crate full of tools.. yep, everything from wing Wang pliers to high quality Proto and SK sockets and ratchets. There's about 80 screwdrivers of a million different brands too. The common denominator on them is the handles. They're disgusting! I'm soaking them in a bucket of Dawn...

Good tool brands and tools for a new auto technician?

This is what I was told. The tool trucks came and dangled all sorts of shiny stuff in front of a lot of guys in my tech school, then **** debt. I bought what I needed new ( a good1/2 impact) and I started out with a scratch and dent Kobalt tool box. If you can't afford a big tool box right away...
