I inherited my Dad's Snap-On boxes. One of the stops that holds up the cover on the KR-537D is broken. Can someone tell me which part to order from Snap-On? Their site leaves much to be desired.

You're welcome. Nice looking setup, how many drawers are in the side cabinet? Do you happen to know the year on the boxes?

Just an FYI, you are going to need a good size rivet puller to put the new hinge in.

The side cabinet is a KR-274 and has 3 shallow drawers up top and a shelf. It is stamped "CANADA" and has a date code of 1989.

The top and bottom box don't appear to have a regular Snap-On date code symbol, but they both say "KENOSHA, WISC. USA. 87". Does that mean they're 1987?

These boxes and the tools are from my dad's days as a diesel mechanic at the local Ryder shop. I still remember when he went to work in a power plant and brought them home. This was when I was getting old enough to really start providing some decent help around the shop and I was out there helping him almost every night. His father was also a mechanic, so the box is full of tools with owner's marks from my dad and grandfather. It's mostly Snap-On, MAC, Matco, and older Craftsman with some Cornwell, SK, etc. It's really awesome to still be able to use the tools they used to feed their families for so many years. I'm working on getting everything cleaned up and organized. I'll post some pics in the "show your toolbox" thread when I get it in a presentable state.

What do folks with these boxes use the narrow drawers on the right side of the top box for? I can't find much use for them. I also wish the top drawer of the bottom box was deeper for standing sockets up. Toolboxes have definitely evolved to be much more efficient with regards to space and work flow.

I've got a pneumatic rivet gun. Hopefully that is sufficient for the rivets.

Updating this thread:

550A1033 - $14.85
5501035A - $8.40

I just ordered these today from snap-on, so they are still available!

EDIT: Received my parts today, the above part numbers are for the two pieces (hinge and lock collar) required to make the right side locking hinge. They do not include the left side, standard hinge.

cool set! glad your dad decided to pass them on.My dad has my grandpa's boxes, so that hits home.

I have 537/557 set and yep the top cover pieces are junk. My box had broken cover pieces and the prior owner had replaced it at least twice.there were parts of at least 2 sets in the top of the box. Probably broken out of frustration!

enjoy!

Reviving an old thread. I need to replace the right side cover stop on a KR-537. Can someone tell me which of the part numbers listed above is the right side hinge? 550A1033 or 5501035A?

I still have the original lock collar as shown in the attached picture. 5501035A is no longer showing up on the snap-on store to order.
