    120 to 240 conversion

got it up and working. I BARELY had enough distance for the existing hot/neutral (now hot) lines in the panel without wanting to rearrange things. The conduit part worked out nicely but I forgot that the EMT box was to be surface mounted and i cut a hole before i started so I had to modify the...

    120 to 240 conversion

i wired it up today. Heater will go on tomorrow. It comes set up for 240 from the factory but the infrared heater can be 120 also. it's the same 750W unit, just a different pigtail. So i assume it just draws amps differently. It's a solaray-d heater. And yes i labeled white to black tape and...

i'll hav to double check the outlet in that room. the panel labels it as only going to the cadet heater but i'm gonna check because the previous owner did other weird things so i wouldn't put it past him

    120 to 240 conversion

I got some ceiling mounted infrared heaters and in one room I wanted to use the wiring from a wall cadet heater to power it. The heaters are 240v, but can be 120 as well (just draw more that's all). But I was thinking...it only demands 12 gauge wire because of the amp draw at 240...can I just...

    HVAC recommendations?

I need a new heat pump/furnace system ASAP because my bryant died at 18 yrs old, heat exchanger corrosion. Got a few bids today which included different servicers pushing Goodman/Daikin, American Standard, Mitsubishi. I did a lot of research on the parent companies and the shared models...

    Weird air intake

I didn't even think about this before. We've been here for several years and thought oh cool this furnace is fancier with electronic. I see the dustiest vents and thought somethings gotta be off. I ordered another set of prefilter with carbon inside to put in on the "post" side to see if it...

    Weird air intake

i do have the mesh prefilters still. I saw I can get carbon versions of them. Do the housings charge those too or just the main filter? Maybe I can get the best of both worlds

    Weird air intake

    Maybe it's just structural

    Weird air intake

No the box is plane. It just has wire mesh over the pleated fabric in the "waffle" area

    Weird air intake

Yup it came real fast. The washable cells aren't even that dirty which tells me it does a **** job. I assume now I never have to turn on the cleaner housing again. These filters has the wire embedded in the filter media but the box being cardboard tells me charging the unit is now useless lol...

    Weird air intake

Aprilaire didn't have sizes no their site, just their model numbers. I went ahead and ordered some 5" filters from Filterbuy. Looks like this cleaner fits the Goodman/Amana style 15 3/8 x 25 1/2 x 5 1/4 size. Found that on a canadian website for my cleaner model. I guess these really **** as...

    Weird air intake

If a box filter is inside the "bug zapper" then do I not need the 1" filters before? That would save me the money retrofitting the air grilles into place as well which is like 50-60 a piece. plus getting on a 20 foot ladder to do this all the time sounds aweful

    Weird air intake

electronic cleaner looks like this https://www.dcne.com/product/16x25-electronic-air-cleaner-p102-14a-d I suppose I could put this in there too...

    Weird air intake

On our house furnace we have one of those electrostatic filters (previous owner installed, my guess 2005). I just decided it's time to add standard filters too. I can't slide them into the housing above the furnace because the slots only allow for 3/8" prefilters. Then of course there's the...

    Heating options: wood vs radiant

I had bought a propane radiant heater but I decided I'm putting that on the back deck outside since I have a propane hookup there.

    Heating options: wood vs radiant

I have the opportunity to snag an old "trash burner" wood stove. Small 36"x20"12" dimensions. I could route a chimney through the wall of my garage and use this for heating my garage, a 22x22 space. The cost for this antique stove is cheap, but chimney pipe isn't. But the fuel source in the...

    Generator backfeeding question

I'm sure there could be but I didn't like the idea of cramming a bunch of wires near the main lines. You don't think that's a hazard somehow?

    Generator backfeeding question

Got it done today. It took a lot of zip ties. Taking the old 6 circuit transfer switch out revealed some weird stuff. Transfer "a" and "b" were the X and Y from a 4 conductor wire, going to circuits 13 and 15. Seemed odd to me to have one romex bundle feeding two circuits. It is a house from...

    Generator backfeeding question

Actually the Emporia Vue looks like an even better bet for my needs. Has 16 circuits to monitor with a better looking app and it's $150. I'm sold.

    Generator backfeeding question

While searching for kill-a-watt and seeing a few reviews I came something called Iotawatt Wifi based monitor with clamp on meters for your main supply lines plus as many circuit clamps as you want. This is the high tech version of what I was trying to wire up. Looks cool. Kind of like Sense...
