    Tile Over Tile?

You can. There is a special primer that you need to use. You will need new screws for outlets also. I have been in the tile trade 22 years.

    12" vs 18" Tiles

12” tile will follow the floor if there are any imperfections. 18” you need a really flat floor to start with. I’ve been installing tile for 21 years now

    Dal tile Dimensional Issue

as a pro tile setter i would say that it is not normal but is common. in order to not see the sizes make sure the installer takes tile from a few different boxes while setting. this will minimize all the small or big tiles being close to one another.

    Shower backerboard question

I'll jump in here. I set tile for a living and have used both systems for installs. The problem that i have with the kerdi system is the layering of the material in the corners. This is not a problem with large format tile but is when using 3x6 subway tile. It (kerdi) tends to make the tile...

Home flooring question (not the garage)

ill chime in here. You want to make sure all of the old adhesive or mortar is removed. usually it can be scraped off. Most self levelers that i have used require a primer so the self leveler will stick. The question I have is it not level or just not flat, makes a big difference. You can have a...

    Tile without grout

Tile without grout is a severe no no. The grout is there to let the tile expand and contract. This is necessary so the floor does not "tent" or buckle. With the use of those large format tiles most manufacturers want them set on a 1/3 offset pattern to eliminate any lippage. These tiles when...

Ceramic Tile - Why not or why?

To set that much tile may take a day and a half for a pro like me. Fairly simple job, nothing to cut around and square. The price seems about right. I get about six to seven $'s a square in Madison Wi. If your going on a 45 you will add to the cost of labor and material.

    Leveling floor before applying VCT

Ceramic Tile - Why not or why?

I say Tile it. I set tile for a living and it is strong stuff. There are morters that will help with movement if that is what you are worried about. Various vendors also have isolation membranes to uncouple your tile from the substrate undertneath. Porcelain would be the way to go. Much more...

Anyone have the Ridgid Pro Pack vacume?

I use one for Work. I'm a tile setter so it gets used everyday. The cord is nice and long to reach outlets. I have also been known to stand on it to reach the top of showers while setting tile. It says that your not supposed to stand on it but it holds my 250lbs and not a crack in it yet. I also...

Have been married for 13 years now, I have not worn my ring for about ten years. I started setting tile then and the ring woulg catch on tile boxes when unloading them. Told my wife I would like to keep all my fingers intact and took off the ring. Did not bother her at all. She knows I love her...

    Tiling my single vehicle garage

Hey guys, I set tile for a living so I guess I should chime in. As for Ditra it is made to uncouple the tile from the substrate in case there is some movement. I think less than an eigth of an inch. I have used it for years with no problems. If the cracks have been there a while you may not have...

    vises

Just picked up a vise a few weeks ago from craigslist. I was wondering what the best way to secure it to my workbench (lag bolts)? The bench is wood. Also it is a non-swivel base. Thanks Eric
