    Vintage Tools...

I knew a guy who collected Bluegrass hammers and kept them at his appliance store. He had to have nearly a thousand of them. He passed away and they went to auction...which I knew nothing about.

    Woodworking 101--Tools and Tips

rrich, that is indeed very impressive. I have had a stack of walnut for quite some time that I have been waiting to decide on a project to use on. I have decided to use some of it to replace a table top, but this has given me pause to wonder. Nah, guess I will go with plan A. Thanks for...

    Vintage Tools...

That's a lot of tools. He even inventoried over 2000 wrenches! I would like to walk through there and get a better view of it. I would be interested in his hammer collection specifically what he might have in the Bluegrass Belknap variety.

How do you organize screwdrivers and wrenches in tool chest?

I just face the phillips inward one direction and the slot screw drivers on the other side of the drawer facing the opposite way. It helps me reduce time looking for what I need.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Yesterday's post: Took a tool out of an electrolysis bath which helped a great deal getting most of the rust off. Wire brushed it some more and sprayed it with black primer/paint. Tried to fix my control head for a acid neutralizer on my water system (need to order parts). Changed oil in...

My small but growing collection of Wizard tools (all Western Auto welcome)

This belonged to my dad. It was either this pair of pliers or a set of Kleins (that have the same color grips) that were mysteriously found in his garden back in the 70s.

Can someone verify what this is? I think it is a bead breaker for tires, but I haven't found this design on the web, so I may be calling this by the wrong name. The handle at the bottom can swivel around as you turn the crank for positioning. It weighs about 40-45 lbs. It's in the process of...

Trying to figure out what era this grinder came from.

Trying to figure out what era this grinder came from.

I have a Stanley bench grinder 286B. It works fine, just needs new wiring which I'm getting around to. I bought it at a flea market about 10 or 12 years ago. This picture is a before pic before I decided to clean it up. I would just like to have an idea of how old it is. I figured it came...

    Shop vac fail

I tried that on the first hive, but the results were limited because the hole was offset from their hive which as about 6 inches or so to the side. Plus, my well was nearby that one and I didn't want to pour too much gas around it. Another remedy I heard of is to pack the hole with Sevin dust at...

    Shop vac fail

It tripped the breaker alright. I can't imagine the noise the vac was making during its last moments. The only recognizable parts inside the bucket was made of metal. The rest was just a bucket of melted plastic dolloped over the dead yellow jackets. I don't think the filter was the issue...

Feel free to use it. I didn't get a manual, probably would have thrown it away anyway!

    Shop vac fail

So the idea was that I put the end of the hose about an inch from the yellow jacket''s hole. When they flew out they went to their new home. I run it for an hour or two for a few days until I know all the bees are gone. After a day with the vac just sitting in the sun will cause them to die...

    Shop vac fail

I was running this vac to remove some yellow jackets from behind my siding for about an hour and a half. I had done this before several times in my yard. Today, I guess my vac just had enough. The motor burned to the extent that it fell inside the bucket before I discovered it. Thankfully it...

    Mystery Tool

I posted this on the Vintage Tool section, but haven't gotten the specific feedback need to make me confident how this thing works. I think this may be an early form of a machinist or woodworking square. Am I right? The two knobs on the front unscrew and the round face lifts up enough for a...

    Road find

I couldn't find sand if I fell off a camel. Well I take that back. Once, I found a pipe wrench that has the swivel head. That was a pretty good find. My next door neighbor finds tools all the time. We were going down the street together one time hauling a boat and all of a sudden he pulled over...
