Is my compressor pump wore out?

This! My dad gave me his old, tired Sanborn 2HP 10 gallon unit that the tank had rusted out on. I was also given an 11 gallon tank that the oilless compressor had failed on by a friend. When I cobbled the two together, it initially took about 11 minutes to fill. When I took apart the head, I...

Menards Pre-finished Birch vs AC Douglass Fir plywood for garage walls?

Domestic plywood especially that in big box stores has gone way downhill in the last 5 years. Menards used to stock AC that was beautiful on the face with almost no patches. 9ish plies for ~$40 a sheet. Now the "same" stuff is 5 ply, much lighter, and patched out the wazoo. It warps easier...

Menards Pre-finished Birch vs AC Douglass Fir plywood for garage walls?

It's rather lightweight with thick, light cores with lots of voids. The veneer chips easily when cutting compared to better grades of plywood. I used to be a big box store plywood guy but I've recently moved on to Baltic birch for everything. Not a ton more expensive from a couple places...

Things in your garage that you wish WEREN'T in your garage.

My wife's grandparents' ashes. In urns, in a paper shopping bag, on a shelf. Forced on us by my father-in-law, awesome. My wife doesn't want to get rid of them either.

Need help answering Q: How much concrete is needed

You don't say how big the footers need to be, but columns alone is 30 cubic feet (or 1.11 cubic yards). There's a handy calculator at: https://www.concretenetwork.com/concrete/howmuch/calculator.htm Some places have a tow behind rentable cart that you can get that is about a cubic yard...

Shelf Units or Built In Shelves for Garage?

Having torn out multiple (3 now) sets of built-ins, I hate the idea. I would much rather put in something that a future owner can use or easily take down. Ala pallet racking, etc. If it's your forever home it's one thing, if it's not don't be a...

    New Home Build

I have a 24k unit heating an 864 sq ft (10ft walls) barn in SW MI. This barn has R10 insulation under the 4" slab, R30 in the walls and R50+ in the ceiling. It had been sufficient for the past 2 years without issues, keeping the building at 46 (freeze protect mode) unless I'm out there on the...

Need Advice On Sump Pump Float Switch

Be thankful you have a decent cast iron pump and haven't had to replace that yet with how much it's running. I had to replace several pumps at my old house before I finally got out of there, although at the end my constantly was actually almost never cycling off... with 2 3/4 HP pumps. House...

    What your Dad taught you,

I became a father myself in Jan, at the grand old age of 39. My father taught me how to hold a flashlight. Jokes aside (yes I did hold many lights while growing up) I learned a lot as a kid on how stuff really worked and how to repair stuff. We fixed a lot of stuff together, including my older...

    John Deere 240 starting issue

The clear tubing was a replacement run made prior to me that I fixed. That said, I always run ethanol free in small engines as it seems to not cause as many issues with the carbs. New fuel pump fixed the issue! Starts and runs beautifully, no issues throttling up like before and fires right up.

    John Deere 240 starting issue

It has been raining all morning here so I tore into the tractor again. I replaced the fuel line (with real fuel line) from pump to carb when I did the carb, the guy who gave it to me used a too short piece of clear tubing that looked like it had seen better days. Other lines are clean. I...

    John Deere 240 starting issue

Since I saw another thread on small engines I thought I'd post up my question, somewhat complex. I have a John Deere 240 lawn tractor with a Kawasaki FC420V-DS00 engine, given to me by a good friend a few years ago. It started and ran great for several years. Then I pushed the clutch in and...
