Not my plan at all. Most garages are not lit up like a repair shop so I think for basic needs/use the cans will light it up to see what I need to. Im not wrenching on cars daily or looking for a thumbtack in a trashcan to need super lights on a regular basis. So why burn 60 bulbs when not needed...

Yeah its all new to me we did 3ft gap then a doubler because of that gap for 2nd run. I don't think id want trusses spaced more than that across the whole garage but like everything i'm sure there is a way to make this work.

You can see on snofox pic from page 2 he had similar and large opening created and no beam. Curious how that happened?

Yeah that's what it is for the 2nd run but with 90 deg. staircase it fights the trusses the first run.

Yeah the builder said probably a post but engineer may not want it sitting on the concrete possibly a pier although its supposed to be 6" concrete. Im not a builder or engineer but a 6"x6" post I would think is plenty to get the job done properly with additional bracing where truss end is...

Thanks and yeah it was the only way to get the headroom 8' with a 2x12 bottom floor unless we went to 10/12 roof.

Snofox how did you clear the space with trusses above first stair run? I assumed you would have a post to take truss load from removing partial truss to make that header area that big?
