Is there any GOOD way to store long-handled yard tools? (shovels, rakes, etc)

I must have tried a dozen different methods over the years, and every one has jammed, broken, dropped a shovel on the car, wasted a ton of space, or ended up with so many tools that didn't fit that I gave up on it. Is it an unsolvable riddle, or has someone found a good solution?

This is shocking, and an example to other mfgs

In my experience Ernst's own stickers don't stick well either- the plastic they use is pretty slippery. I don't think I've ever seen a set of metric sockets that included a 20mm before o_O

bit storage, what do you all use?

I use a Milwaukee bit case since most of the time I need to take the bits with me to whatever I'm working on, and may need a variety of sizes/styles for the job. It's also helpful to have the case to toss the screws in so they don't roll away. I try to keep them roughly organized by type/size...

    Vessel screwdrivers

Those look perfect for some of the rusty, hard-to-reach screws in my Suzuki- anybody found them in the US at a reasonable price? (amazon.co.jp wants $20 just for shipping)

Do you get the dread that your great grandchildren are going to have to deal with your tools, hardware and general stuff?

We're child-free, so whenever I buy new stuff I think about how anybody interested in tools should be nice to my wife, because she's not going to know what to do with all my **** when I'm gone (my family has a history of dying young). Most likely some auction scavenger will make out like a...

    Tools of Japan

Thanks, I'm glad I asked! I know I shouldn't let it bug me as much as it does, but with so many ratchet options out there I may as well stick to ones that work the way I want them to, especially at that price point.

    Tools of Japan

Ok, I'm thinking of making my first foray into Japanese tools with the DRPD sale but have a question- Ko-Ken pear head ratchets. If the selector is to the left, does it tighten or loosen the bolt? I'm really particular about all my rats having the selector work the same way.

    Milwaukee Power Tools Deal Permathread

I guess I should have gone yellow instead of red; my smaller Milwaukee batteries (1.5s) have made it just a couple months past the warranty and crapped out. On topic- this seems like a good deal o' the day at HD- Gen 3 fuel compact 3/8 impact, sawzall, and 2 6ah HO batteries for $320. Dealio

    swivel head ratchet recommendations

    1. Probably, but I never think of oiling it until I'm deep in a project and getting annoyed. By the time I'm out from under the car or whatever, I've already forgotten that it needs to be done. I haven't even looked to see if it can be disassembled. 2. Yes, and I'd like to be able to use it as...

Looking for 2 EDC pocket knives: one utility and one really nice

Honestly, I'd say to go to a gun show or larger gun shop and try out a variety of blades to figure out what you like best in terms of size, opening assist, and lock type. There are a lot of variables that impact how it feels, which makes a difference if you do expect to use it on a regular...

    swivel head ratchet recommendations

The Pittsburgh Pro one may look great, but it has terrible backdrag that makes it useless for the low-torque applications where the swivel head would otherwise shine.

    MetMo Driver

I wanna hate it, because an 8-tooth ratcheting screwdriver that weighs the better part of a pound is answering a question that no one is really asking, but that is exactly the sort of thing I'd buy if I didn't have to work for my money.

Milwaukee M-18 7-1/4" Circular Saw Intermittent Running

Yup, I experienced exactly the same thing with mine. I've just set it aside and use my corded for now, since half of my Milwaukee batteries crapped out at the three-and-a-half year mark anyway.

Lawn mower for a really steep yard?

I have considered goats, but fencing everything in with a nice-looking wood fence (I'm in a neighborhood, which technically doesn't permit goats) would be murderously expensive and sucky to maintain. Terracing is way more complex than I want to get into- right now my drainage is just fine and...

    Screwdrivers (Tekton/Klein)

FWIW, I like the Tekton handles better, but I was not impressed with the strength- I've twisted the smaller flatheads out of square just using them as screwdrivers. But, since some of the sizes/profiles will always end up getting a lot more use than others, it's a fine strategy to start out with...

Lawn mower for a really steep yard?

So I recently moved to the flatlands to the mountains, and my big-box-store Cub Cadet zero-turn is literally sliding down my lawn even when it's dry, which is not ideal since there's a creek at the bottom of the property :eyecrazy: I've only got about an acre of lawn, but sections of it are...

    What is your Pet Peeve?

I am now adding "plastic dammits" to my vocabulary, right next to "Jesus clips". Tool pet peeve- the fact that the industry has not standardized the selector lever on pear head ratchets. It is so annoying to find a nice rat and discover that the selector goes the wrong way, or that the online...

    SK Steals and Deals

The sale puts their prices pretty much in line with the HF Icon line :deadhorse:lol: I couldn't pass them up either. I also picked up one of those ratcheting flare nut wrenches (7/16") to play with since I'd never seen one in person before. Probably too bulky to get at the brake bleeders and...

Examples of uses for thread chasers?

Generally, wrenching on my own cars that are 20-60 years old, they get used on a fastener or threaded assembly that is still mechanically sound, but fought me every inch of the way coming apart. They're not a one-and-only solution, but they're a valuable tool to have on hand.
