Why are Snap-On toolboxes so expensive?

I bought mostly Snap-On tools during my career, when I first hired in at the age of 19 we had a S-O dealer who showed up every week, he was very knowledgeable and didn't mind showing a teenager why this tool was better than that one and didn't mind letting me make weekly payments. I learned a...

    Testing a Snowmobile Stator

That's why I have two meters so I can compare the readings. That machine is in the age range for the stator and/or pickup to be failing (and the crank seals to be leaking), so it would not surprise me the stator is bad.

    Educate me on backup generators

In 2014 we bought a Generac 14KW with ATS from a friend who was buying in to be a dealer at the time. Sold it to me for dealer cost, had a neighbor install and pipe the propane to the generator, then paid my buddy who is an electrician to install the ATS and make it all work. After he finished...

    Weed wackers

I like two stroke engines, so a lot of outdoor power equipment are two stroke, must come from my love of two stoke dirt bikes, street bikes, and snowmobiles that I have owned many of (not much sounds better than a two stroke triple with pipes!). I have an early FS series Stihl string trimmer...

    Framing nail gun recommendation?

I bought one of those inexpensive (less than $100) Banks framing nailers from Harbor Freight, I am happy with it, I've used it a lot and I am happy with it.

Construction methods for controlling sound from a garage workshop

Not sure why I am worried, my closest neighbor is almost 1/8 mile away. Probably trying to make up for me years ago when I lived in town and had dragbikes.

Construction methods for controlling sound from a garage workshop

I need to watch this, I have issues with hearing my stereo (especially after a few beers) outside of my fully insulated and finished pole barn.

Forklift Thread - what lift(s) do you have?

I owned a few lift trucks over the years, the first one was an old Hyster 3-wheeled truck with a Wisconsin V-4 engine, wished I had a dollar for every time I had to use a human counterweight or two! Then I got a simi-modern H50 Hyster (Hyster had a factory in my town), it served us well for...

Dumpster Lids - Won't Stay Closed

We use a ratchet strap tie down from one side the other, covering both lids. We live in the woods so critters, especially raccoons are the big issue.

    DIY motorcycle lift.

Good on the 1/4" thick top, I've had several Handy lifts (had a bike shop for 40 years) and the tops on those always bent. And the Handy is known to be as heavy duty as you can buy. Those Harbor Freight ones are scary, very narrow.

Lifetime Warranty Tools Vs. Cheap Disposable Tools

Just depends on your usage and expectations. I wrenched for a living for over 40 years, those tools are mostly Snap-on as I needed the best. I still have all those tools, but the very few tools I need to purchase late in life don't always have to be the best because more than likely they will...

    Paper towel holders

I use a 10" or 12" peg board single hook, works great on my peg board above the work bench. I also have one of those plastic one that screws to the wall, it has been going for 30+ years and still going strong.

I've owned 4 or 5 Handy lifts over the years, still have 2. No issues in everyday service department use.

    Welcome Home Fellas…

It seems slightly better today, when your internet is as weak as mine is, you really notice the little differences in connections. Great job on the site, my speed comes back up on the 11th, then I can really see what all is here.

    Welcome Home Fellas…

The new format looks great, can't wait to explore it more once I get better internet signal. I live in a remote area and my internet is very weak, sadly the pages load slower with the new format, sometimes taking a minute or so to load a page, the old format was faster.

    Material for Workbench Top

I have been using the 1/4" tempered hardboard stuff for my workbench tops since I built my first one in 1985, it is still going strong and have two more just like it.

    Best Hand Wipes?

I am using Scrubs in a Bucket, they work good for me, I have used a few other brands that worked good as well. If my hands get really dirty, I scrub them in the solvent tank, then use the Scrubs.

    Back up heat

We live next to a forest preserve on 4 acres way out in the sticks, basically a house in woods. Power outages to to trees and tree limbs falling on lines is common, so years ago I bought a 14kw whole house generator that is plumbed into our 1000 gal propane tank for fuel source. We never let the...
