Soldering wire to circuit board... 1st time. Advice welcomed.

These sort of threads always seem to devolve into a pi$$ing match after a few replies. Once you've got the broken bits of wire out of the holes and tinned the wires, it'll solder up like a dream. I love seeing Radio Shack stuff, nostalgic, I guess. I have a collection of Radio Shack thru-hole...

I decided to switch all my cordless tools to Hercules

I have a lot of HF tools. I'm just a homeowner who works on his own stuff though, not a pro. At the house I use DeWalt because that's the platform I started with but I needed some tools to keep in the Jeep so I wouldn't have to keep swapping back and forth so I got Bauer. I was able to get...

    Portable Generator Gas Cap

I was just quoted almost $700 to replace the batteries in my Jeep, I bought an automatic 20A charger that has an AGM setting and put it on, it took 26 hours to fully charge them! I'm hoping they will last a bit, the Jeep only gets driven once a month or so.

Anyone use something like this to set toe after replacing tie rod ends?

Sometimes the price isn't the true cost. I'm guessing having weight on the front only matters for independant suspension vehicles - I don't see where a solid axle would care.

Best Cleaner/Lubricant for Vidmar Toolbox Drawer Slides?

I'm a SuperLube silicone grease fan like 1Bad55Chevy. It's very useful stuff and my go-to lube for slidy and spinny things.

Electron movement does translate well to other mediums, plumbing for example.

    Electronics repair as a hobby

I'm curious how many electronics repair buffs are among us. I got into this hobby about 5 years ago whilst trying to decide what would be a good distraction from a destructive habit I gave up. I took electrical and mechanical engineering in school, but that was back before the large dinosaurs...

    Driveway tool cart/carrier

Anyone can buy something. I have great respect for a man who will build what he needs and make it work for multiple things.

House heat went out last night.

It's direct spark. The spark seems strong and sounds normal.

House heat went out last night.

I have a strange addiction. I have an insatiable drive to make things last way beyond their reasonable lifespan. When I bought my current house 16 years ago, the inspector made a point of telling me the Rheem package unit (Mfg 04/2001) would need to be replaced within the next year. I've...

    Cheap Discs and Angle Grinders

My old boss wasn't a fan of safety or PPE. None of the grinders, cut-off tools, lathes or mills had safety guards and when we got a new tool, he would throw the guard straight in the 'F*** it bucket'. He would laugh at people for wearing hearing protection or safety glasses (even though he wore...

Snap-On 40" Heritage Roll Cab/Top Chest — Post-Purchase Issue, Looking for Advice and Repair Input

You inspected the unit prior to purchase and accepted it based on your inspection. Unless there was an express warranty or return period agreed upon prior to purchase, you now wholly and solely own the toolbox. If there was something wrong with the item beyond physical damage (item contained...

    Garage Fans

I have a small ceiling fan in my 2 car space, along with a mini-split heat / air unit. In the summer, the ceiling fan helps move air around, which helps sweat evaporate and has an additional cooling effect, in winter it doesn't seem to make any difference in either direction, so I leave it off.

    What makes a toolbox expensive/better?

I have a couple of cheap toolboxes by Craftsman and Cornwell Tools that feel awful when opening the drawers or moving them around. Flexible, noisy, gritty slides and horrible wheels. They are just cringy to use and only used for specialty tool storage. Funnily enough, I have a US General cart...
