Your best decision in building your shop

Electrical outlets every 4 feet and waist high. Best money I spent.

That would be the problem and cars tying up bays with no income.

Mine has been added and tied in but cannot figure out how to attach photos.

Planning: Ceiling and insulation for outbuilding

The problem you will have with OSB and 1/4 inch plywood here in GA (I am near Augusta) is warping from heat and humidity. I used 15/32 plywood sheathing on inside walls and 6" insulation to reduce warping and give me a hard surface to hang what I want. I have metal rafters and metal roof with...

Looks great. Finishing touches take a lot of time!

    Civilian Auto Hobby Shop

I used auto hobby shops all over the world. They are a great deal especially since you can do nothing on a car in base housing. They are subsidized by NAF. Mostly profit from bx/px and commissary.

    Civilian Auto Hobby Shop

Atlanta Motorsports Park. Subdivision part is a long ways off. Supposed to be open for racing this fall. Memberships are still available for those with a high tolerance of risk and lots of disposable income. Houses bordering property are available cheap...

    Civilian Auto Hobby Shop

If there is a lift(s) or paint booth work out how long they can be *******. Immovable projects tying up a lift is a real problem.

    Finally building the Ultimate.

Makes my 32x88 shop build seem inadequate. Nice thread.

Just ordered a wall-mounted tire rack (build vs. buy)

315 x 18 or 17 is the sizes we deal with - a little tire is 275... My Suburban/F250/Bronco tires are 33x12.50 and would need a big rack...

    Civilian Auto Hobby Shop

It is a tough business model. The "Auto Barn" option with a few bays for contracted storage customers is more likely I would think. I have used a lot of military auto hobby shops - they are mostly good, not always cheap, and tool control is rarely a problem.

Just ordered a wall-mounted tire rack (build vs. buy)

Now that my pit crew is off at school I need a Motive also. Rd ATL can hit kill you speeds in a C5Z - but it is a blast!

    Hanging up a punching bag?

You will need to reinforce the ceiling no matter what. Getting it thru the ceiling may take some doing and may impact fire code (chimney effect)

Just ordered a wall-mounted tire rack (build vs. buy)

Nice score on the racks. Anyone who has ever looked at your build thread on the ZO6 does not doubt your attention to detail and skills with tools. You ready to get spanked at Road Atlanta:thumbup:

    conmstruction waste as fireplace fuel?

We burned scraps from a cabinet shop for as long as we had the shop. My Vermont Casting stove is a bit warped from overheating - but it has survived over 11 years as the primary winter heat for a 3600 sq ft house (Georgia is not that cold for that long).

What tools have you lost? What have you found?

Lost count of the ones that went missing - has decreased significantly since my 18 and 21 year old sons are away at school. Still finding them all over the house, barn, garage, yard, paddock and vehicles though.

Pros and Cons of a Wood Furnace in Garage

On most projects I also iqnore my sweat equity..I also ignore it on firewood. I heat my home with wood but will use something else in the shop more then likely since my Dad caught his garage on fire with one in WI. Down here AC is more of an issue.
