    WTB Craftsman 41594 Screwdriver

Looking for an older Craftsman 41594 screwdriver. 6 3/4" long. If you have a box of your old Craftsman stuff gathering dust, please look for one of these for me. Thanks in advance. Edit: apparently, I'm not the only one that like these. Found a couple on eBay for stupid money. Open to...

Sprinkler System Backflow From Elevation Change

I lifted the control valves and made a new box. Box will double as a small table now!

Sprinkler System Backflow From Elevation Change

The control valves have a vacuum breaker built in. I'm changing my mind on how to fix this. Thinking now that I'll lift up the existing valves. 12" higher than the existing position will work. I can do this in just a couple of hours. It will look a little unsightly, though. Have to make...

Sprinkler System Backflow From Elevation Change

For one thing, I don't think they are sufficient in a case like mine to make the system meet building code requirements. I'm not permitting this, but just saying. Secondly, those cheap check valves are not reliable. No big deal, I suppose, as long as you can get to them.

Sprinkler System Backflow From Elevation Change

Yes, the anti-siphon valves needs to be higher. Adding a check valve is not the ideal fix. Guess I need to redo the plumbing. I'm going to order a proper Pressure Vacuum Breaker valve, elevate that 12" above the highest sprinkler head, and then use simple solenoid valves to control the...

Sprinkler System Backflow From Elevation Change

I just finished installing a two-zone sprinkler system in my backyard. One zone has a small area that's at a higher elevation than the control valves, and when the solenoid valve on that zone closes, water backflows and splooges out the anti-siphon portion of that valve. I'm thinking about...

    Harbor Freight Coupon Thread

I haven't put them into actual use yet, but just pawing over them leaves a nice impression. The finish is immaculate. Low backdrag. Flex-head is tight and moves smoothly. Me likes.

    Harbor Freight Coupon Thread

Bought a set of the Icon flex-head ratcheting combo wrenches at 35% off. Couldn't stop myself. $130 for the set is a solid value. No way I'm paying regular price, $200, for that set, though. I'm addicted to getting a discount at HF. They tried to move away from the constant coupons, but...

I have the big Doyle vice, and it's a nice piece. All the newer red Doyle vices are nice. 30% off for one of those is a bargain!

I've watched too many Torque Test Channel and Project Farm videos on ratchets lately. The Icon products, including the ratchets, always rank near the top. I can appreciate that the G2 is an evolutionary improvement, but the G1's are already excellent, so it's a game of increments. I'm more...

    Removing rust pits

Coal slag is large particle. It won't get into small rust pits. Try some finer aluminum oxide. Maybe as the last step. And if the part is small, soak it in phosphoric acid. Kleen Strip at Home Depot is cheap and works well.

    Harbor Freight Coupon Thread

Got home with the top box, and saw that the lid was dented on one corner. Took it back, but they didn't have any more. They offered a nice discount, so I accepted that and went home again. Stacked the top on the bottom and noticed that the entire thing was skewed, like a trapezoid. Back to...

    Harbor Freight Coupon Thread

Used my Inside Track Club membership to get 20% off on a US General 27" toolbox stack. I'm impressed with the quality. Got the bottom yesterday, and going to pick up the top today. The coupon says one purchase per day, but the HF worker said they can override that. Didn't know or would have...

    South Bend Heavy 10L - How’d I do?

The heavy 10 is very highly regarded. It's not just a beginner's machine. Unless there is some hidden damage or heavy wear, you got a very nice deal. Someone painted it, so hopefully, they also put care into maintenance. The collets are nice, but I don't see a closer for the lathe. You...

60gal upright air compressor floor attach?

A wood platform sounds like a good idea, along with some rubber isolation pads. I bought some pads off eBay, made from old tires. Very tough and durable.

Cordless Stick Vacuum for Garage Cleaning

The wind blows stuff in my garage also. In the afternoon, you can't use a blower because it just kicks the debris up in the air, and then it comes back in your face. A vacuum would work nice for my application too. Too bad Milwaukee doesn't have a stick vac. I see some cheapies on Amazon...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I have the 4" version, 391-5188, which came with my house. I recently cleaned it up, greased it, and sprayed it black. Been trying to rehome it for $65, but no love. All I get are $40 offers. Not all older vices are worth much.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I have one of those vices. Bought in 1995, at a DYI warehouse store in Ohio. It's been a very nice piece for me. Smooth rotation, both the base and the head, and very robust. Look at the thickness of the dynamic jaw. Unless there is a hidden casting flaw, that thing ain't breaking. I've...
