It is an original. If you notice it does have writing on the front, but otherwise it's very nice. It was probably filed away for sometime, and that's why it survived. Very few catalogs from this era have survived.

Snap on has never made a 1/8 drive ratchet. Only the nut driver handle. A 1/8 drive ratchet shire would be a nice conversation piece, but of such limited use, I'd imagine the production costs would be unreasonable.

Of the 20's era No7 ratchets, this is one of the more common variants, so value would be $25-75 depending on who is bidding and when. The market for this era snap on is very erratic lately.

In this condition, with very poor paint, missing handlws on the lower box, and all of the extra holes drilled for the chain and lock hasps, your looking at around $500-700. One in much better condition went for $800 on ebay 2 months ago.

A grey one went for 800 last month and it had some repairs to the front panel. Grey is hard to find, but red is more desirable to most. I have seen just the top box alone sell for over 1500 when the economy was better.

Sounds like the OP wants to work with larger stock than sheet metal. Id say for what he wants to do, the biggest investments should be a good 220V welder (a 110 MIG will not be sufficient for welding heavy wall tubing and stock for use on a vehicle), either a MIG or TIG, and a decent welding...
