Safe to use old (not used) NM wire?

Thanks guys. I ran that wire today. Still have a few more lights etc to wire for. It's a good thing I'm not an electrician......I totally missed the boat on how much wire I needed. Should have bought more up front.....it would have been cheaper even considering the freebie I just got. Live and...

Rules on what PVC conduit can touch?

Getting ready to run my conduit from my main, through my partially finished basement and out to the new garage. My basement is a mess of all the trades...LOL! I'm running 1/0 aluminum THHN wire in 2" PVC conduit. Are there any restrictions on how close this conduit can run to water supply lines...

Safe to use old (not used) NM wire?

Thanks guys. Looks like I'm using it. Dumb question......was there any code changes in wire spec since 2000? Since I have to get my elec inspected, am I okay using non-yellow, etc NM? Thanks, Jerry

Safe to use old (not used) NM wire?

My Father-in-Law just gave me some 12/2 with ground (about 130') . It's new, but was made in 2000. I'm a little concerned because the outer jacket looks like it is a pinkish creamy color. I didn't know if the sun has gotten to this or if that is even a concern. I don't know if he had it stored...

    Question about nailing vinyl soffit

Hey guys, I'm starting my siding, and I've run into an issue. My trusses are capped with a 1x6 fascia board (no sub fascia), so I screwed F-channel to the 1x6 under the truss ends. Flange of the F is obviously up to be hidden. Then on the wall I nailed a 2x3 nailer and hung j-channel under that...

    garage door widths?

My 24x32 is getting a 18'x9 door. I too went around and around about door size. If I could have gone wider than the 24' then I would have considered two 10' wide doors but 24' total width was the most I could fit....or so I thought. I ended up placing the garage another 4' closer to the property...

    Opinions on 4" slab pour

Thanks guys. I graded the gravel and did some other work on it today. Ran low on gravel but slab will be about 4.5" to 5" thick now. Cheaper at this point to order more concrete than get another load, since I need to get it finalized on prep this weekend and can't work on it tomorrow. Laying the...

    Opinions on 4" slab pour

K'ledgebldr, Why would you assume it's not permitted just because I asked a question? Yes, it is permitted...kinda hard to hide a 24x32 garage from GIS satalites, etc. The guidelines are just that, guidelines. This is a residential garage but I'm using it as a workshop and also to park my trucks...

    Opinions on 4" slab pour

Thanks guys. I'm proceeding as planned. I appreciate the info/support. Hoping the weather holds out a few more days so I can get this all done!

    Opinions on 4" slab pour

I'm prepping for my 4" slab (24x32) The ground is virgin ground except about a foot or so from the inside of the wall due to digging for the footings, etc. Only stone was used for backfill and it is only 12" deep at the deepest point with 4" gravel over the virgin ground. The rebar is #4 on a...

If only I didn't have to put the cars in the garage!

My attached garage is 24x24. I'm building my 24x32 detached so that my truck (crewcab longbed SuperDuty) will have some shoulder room while it sleeps! However, I don't like sawdust blowing around in the shop on my truck while doing projects, but I don't like the truck outside either. Point...

    Treated plywood over dirt drive?

I don't have a solution for the ground, but thought I would mention about the car cover. I'm a bit of a truck nut (major understatement). Make sure the truck is completely free of any dust before installing the cover. Car covers on vehicles outside move around even when properly fitted due to...

    Mortar Mixed Wrong.....

PSTNBLY, I fully agree with you. I'd rather pay a little now in "extras" rather than dig it up later. By the way, read my update in my first post. Basically, I didn't have a mix ratio error after all. I was sent too many bags of cement and didn't know it. So when I counted what was left I...

    Mortar Mixed Wrong.....

Thanks for the feedback. Rburke85: I agree with you. Size of the bag or shovel doesn't matter. I was talking about actual ratios... Brownbagg: I was using cement and sand to make my mortar.....not mortar mix. I had masonry cement and sand. Joes169: Draintile around the perimeter in my case is...

    Toyota tech question

We have an 05 Sequoia that had something similar happen in regards to the 4wd and traction control and I believe the roll stability control. It was in the inspection station for the emission inspection. They had removed the gas cap to check it for vacuum/pressure (part of the inspection) Well...

    Mortar Mixed Wrong.....

Thanks guys. Mike I read your posting about your walls. My joints are very hard and can not be scratched out so my mix wasn't as bad as your situation. Joe, my area requires the parging on the wall, so I might as well tar it too. I'm also putting drain pipe around the footing since it is built...

    Mortar Mixed Wrong.....

Thank you Discbrks. I'll fill the cells. Probably not all of them but most of them. I talked with a friend that does a lot of block work and he laughed at me. Told me I worry to much and that the mix would be fine especially for such a short wall and low load. I wish I could just let my slab...

    Mortar Mixed Wrong.....

I was going for a 3 to 1 mix. One whole bag was not mixed at a time. None of us are pros and it was also a small mixer. Instead the masonry cement and the sand were both shoveled. 5 to 15 is the same as 1 to 3 ratio. My question is about the fact that the ratio was really closer to 1 to 5...

    Mortar Mixed Wrong.....

My garage in underway. We were laying 8" blocks today to get above grade. At the end of the day I noticed how much Lehigh Masonry Cement I had left over vs. the number of blocks laid. I was planning to use a 3:1 ratio of sand to cement. I was not the one doing the mixing today and it ended up...

Wash bay at home in new garage questions.

For car drying I believe it is called the Air Force Master Blaster. It uses heated FILTERED air to blow the car off. Much better than using a leaf blower. The problem with leaf blowers is that the air is not filtered. It's probably not a huge deal since you aren't dumping dirt into the leaf...
