    Concrete Chunk Missing on Joint

Thoughts on this and what to do to possibly patch it? Probably a tennis ball sized area is missing. Just a builders grade driveway that’s subject to regular Midwestern freeze/thaw cycles. Driveway does have caulk in the joints.

Antique “Spot” and “Plain” Clock-like Tool/Measuring Device

Hey PL, thanks for that research and info! I think you’re absolutely right. It’s Maryport and the lettering on the dials has faded. That is interesting.

Antique “Spot” and “Plain” Clock-like Tool/Measuring Device

sorry, didn’t take enough pics! The right and left side just had what looked to be a recessed eyelet for a cable or some attachment. I’ve been doing web searches with the manufacturer (W. Shimmin) and can’t find anything. Really weird that there’s no information on it or even the terms for...

Antique “Spot” and “Plain” Clock-like Tool/Measuring Device

There are some connectors on the side. Someone said that it looked like a cable could attach to it, so it could be a scale? But it no one knew for sure. they did think it was the original case.

Antique “Spot” and “Plain” Clock-like Tool/Measuring Device

Odd one, but any ideas what this is And what is was used for? Couldn’t find anything online. Looks like a clock, but only goes to 50 on each side.

    Dumb Outlet Wiring Question

Resolved. I’ll own up and I don’t think I had it initially wired correctly, between the line and the load. Also, the reset button had to be really pressed in the get it to reset (as Slim indicated in the post above). Just giving people a heads up in case they encounter something similar and...

    Dumb Outlet Wiring Question

I actually did that. Disconnected the Load wires and just had the Line and ground connected. Turned the breaker on and still no power. So using that outlet that doesn’t have a GFCI breaker hooked up…does it pose any shock/fire danger? Haven’t plugged anything into it now that it’s just a...

    Dumb Outlet Wiring Question

I bought an Eaton gfci breaker. It has a springy reset button, but doesn’t really “set” like a typical one. Wonder if a got a bad one?

    Dumb Outlet Wiring Question

Thanks guys. I tested the wires and only one is hot (the black one in the yellow sleeve marked “hot”. The remaining 3, including the black one, have no voltage. I moved the hot one to the left in the pic. Assuming the single hot is the Line, I just hooked up the hot/black to the line...

    Dumb Outlet Wiring Question

Outlet isn’t switched. Lights and fan are out too. It’s a bathroom.

    Dumb Outlet Wiring Question

Ok. I’ll check it with a meter and see what I can find out. Also, what’s the rationale for marking a white wire as hot? Just wondering from an electrician standpoint…

    Dumb Outlet Wiring Question

Got a weird (to me) outlet wiring problem. So the outlet just tripped the gfci this morning and the reset didn’t work. It had been working fine until today. So I got a new outlet and noticed that one of the neutral wires is wrapped and marked with the black “hot” wire. (see pic-hot marked...

How would you prevent a "stainless steel" toolbox from rusting?

My POS Whirlpool “stainless steel” fridge rusts. I have to wax it every year with automotive wax as a preventative. I’m guessing there‘s more stainless steel in my $10 beverage tumbler than there is in my $1000+ fridge.

    Section of Can Lights Out?

Thats what I was thinking. Christmas lights! But the light was in the middle of the group, so it’d be an odd place to start a run of lights. But, when I started unscrewing the bad bulb, the rest of the lights turned on, so im wondering if there was some weird electrical draw from the bad led...

    Section of Can Lights Out?

Thanks for the quick replies! I figured it out just by complete dumb luck. I turned ON the switch, and unscrewed one light and a time, and when I came to unscrewing one of them, the rest turned back on (wtf?). So I just replaced the bad bulb. Not sure why one bad bulb would turn off the...

    Section of Can Lights Out?

So I have 2 sections of 6 switched can lights on the same breaker, and one section of 6 lights went out. Each section of six lights has its own switch. Lights are cheap LEDs from Menards. I thought I heard a “pop” from one of the lights as I turned on the switch, and I now understand each can...

Security cameras without a huge learning curve?

no need to make it super-complex. i've had this kit for 2 years now & haven't had a hiccup. buddy of mine sold me on it (he has the same one going on 4 years). both systems have experienced 100+ degree days & -20* nights. easy setup, decent phone app, & fairly cheap with good reviews...

Why do I ever look for lumber in HD?

pretty much this. not a huge deal if it's straight when wet, but you need to frame it asap before it starts to dry & twist. the HD brown-tone PT lumber i bought a few years back seemed to be especially bad. i don't mind buying lumber at box stores...i can eyeball it for twists/warps &...

    Sams Club Pressure Washers

i have one like it. iirc, it's not a brass pump, at least mine isn't. that said, i don't use it very often (maybe once/twice per year) & never had any issues with it. i usually run mine out of gas before putting it away & that helps keep the carb clean.
