Sooooo many sales in the Boston area this weekend, but I need to spend it at home prepping the property for my daughter's high school graduation party next Saturday. We managed to hit two local yard sales, but brought home nothing garage related. Good hunting to the rest of you!

Bubinga: at the risk of going off-thread, I want to wish you good luck with your health challenge. Remember life is short and you can't take it with you, so do what makes you happy with the time and money you have left. If there's no one to leave it to (money or stuff), then it should only matter to you.
That said, here's hoping you beat it and are hunting bargains for many more years!

I Know, But see l "beat it" as of last May, (last Chemo treatment) thought I was good, Have to see now, I just got the unisaw about October 2013, l was still in the hospital, talked to the guy on the phone from craigs list, got a feel for him, and trusted him, mailed him a check, and picked it up when I got home.
Competly restored and nicely painted , with OE goose egg, and dust door for $569.00. .....(this thing is Nice BTY!!)
Brought it home and put the bies fence on it I had from the Lowes Blow out
about 6 years ago($80.00!!!) and sold the Jet loc for $100.00!
Anyways, all I wanted to do was retire, and fool around with wood and metal work, and restore, and buy, (maybe sell a few) machines,
So hopefully I can beat it this Time,

Today was a disappointing day. 5 planned stops, 3 TOO's, and a Flea Market. I put almost 100 mi on my truck running all over the county for sales that said they had tools.
(excuse me while I go off on a little rant)
Yes, I am aware that the plural of "tool" is "tools". However, while putting one screwdriver on one table and one wrench on another table would technically qualify as tools ........... DON'T BOTHER PUTTING THE TERM "TOOLS" IN YOUR AD SO THAT I WASTE MY TIME AND GAS DRIVING TO YOUR CLOTHES CLEARANCE SALE !!!! If you do, you can expect that the only tools in your driveway will be me and my attitude.

Oh, and the flea market was a bust as well. The only money I spent there was the $1 fee to get in.
So, in the end, I went back to the estate sale from yesterday to see if they brought any more boxes up from the basement. Not really, but I did pick up two things to sooth my soul.

Not a bad day, until my ****** made an awful noise and then started in with odd bearing noises.... It got me home with no drama (I did finish the run, no reason not to unless the ****** exploded...)
I think the horrible noise was a bearing cage getting munged and its probably (hopefully) on the bottom of the ******. I have a used spare but that will take most of my weekend to get swapped out.
The finds:
Brass Fawn (10c at one place) and from an estate sale, a pretty much complete 3/8 drive Indestro ratchet set, from 7/16 to 1" its missing the 13/16 short socket, (or use the Spark plug socket...) and I assume the extension. 2 bucks
Two Bucks each: a Reed Pipe vise and a Bridgeport hatchet.
Another Estate Sale, this one had a small barn out back and the place was falling apart. Third day for the sale so these were leavings... Five bucks for all.
First up: a cast iron stand, (its not a housing, the bottom is not machined) and a step, probably from a wagon or buggy. (lots of old farm implements...). the step has some interesting grip patterns in it.
And the small stuff from the same place: New Britain DBE, P&C DOE & DBE, Indestro from a combo set, Plvmb DBE Fairmont DOE Long C Craftsman Socket Knob with sa brass threaded insert, fan Spray nozzel mercury 3 way Switch.
And the last stop for $5 ; a Flare, Klein nut driver, 2 SO drivers, almost complete Brass nesting drivers, Small Sargent parrelell jaw needle nose Kobalt ratchet wrench, Proto combo, Craftsman crow foot, Apex mag socket adn three special drivers (three tbs?

In between the rain showers today I hit 3 garage sales and scored a few things at one advertised as a "Man's Sale with tools". It pretty well lived up to its name and I was able to get this 3 drawer Craftsman box for $5. Not vintage but just dusty and when hosed off will be very serviceable. It also had a bunch of left over misc small tools that probably = $5 on their own.
Also paid $10 for this two lamp rotating caution lamp which the seller gladly pulled out a battery charger and demonstrated for me.
And since I paid asking price for the first two items he agreed to my request to throw in these three wrenches for free. Two old adjustable and a small right angle one that I see as a great addition to one of my vises that is missing a swivel lock handle.
That was just enough to quench my thirst for some weekend deals.

Month of MAY has been terrible for me as far as finding tools. This was the best day of the month and it wasn't much.
Picture 1: Local pawn shop. Everything for 15 dollars. Noteable items are large Herbrand screwdriver (first one I ever found), New Empire square, Craftsman crown logo multi screwdriver, and the 3/16" - 1/16" electrical lug crimper.

Just picked up this set of Craftsman wrenches at a flea market today. They're all marked -VV-. I'd be interested in thoughts on what they might be worth before I say what I paid for them. Didn't pay a lot but maybe too much. Thanks.

So I asked about a trade for a PEXTO 4" adjustable that jim_no_garage acquired, and he graciously agreed! I offered a number of other brands and He's getting a Nice Proto L.A. 4" in the trade.
What was just as amazing is the packing he did on the wrench!
If you get a chance to to business with Jim, I can fully vouch for his packing skills!
It came in a nice padded envelope.
Inside is 3 layers of corrugated Cardboard:
I slit the tape holding it and opened it Wow. Just Wow...
His attention to minute detail was totally impressive!
So I figured I'd make sue of such a great packing job!
Hopefully if Jim doesn't have it by now, he will shortly!

Beryllium copper is also toxic if inhaled. Don't sand or wire wheel that!

Church tag sale yielded this like new RotoZip for $2.50. [emoji106]
Rest of the day yielded this collection for a total of $5. The metal flashlight and felt weatherstrip are OLD. The weatherstrip package talks about saving on coal...
The Petersen vise grips are odd in that they have no release lever. Nor do they show signs of ever having one.

I went to probably 15 baby clothes and women's shoes sales today
The second to last one (almost missed it because of the tiny white printer paper sign on the mail box) ACTUALLY HAD TOOLS!!!!! (boy, did they)
Yard sale was a friendly retired guy and his wife (he was an industrial electrician)
named Pete (I didn't ask his name.....they were ALL OVER his tools!
)
Pete was REAL easy to deal with.....I got everything in this pic for $8
($3 for the 2 drills - $3 for the 2 large tongue and groove pliers - $2 for the O-Ratchet kit and he "threw in" the cable tie tensioner fer free)
1/2" Milwaukee drill (keyless chuck and quik-connect chord and a 3/8" DeWalt (w/keyless chuck)
Large Channel-Lock and Kobalt tongue-N-groove pliers (they didn't look this good when I got them.....I've wired brushed and oiled them already)
O-Ratchet kit (made in Taiwan) and Free cable tie tensioner
Pete got me a box to put my treasures in and as I thanked him and was leaving, I saw this Milwaukee angle drill with a $15 post-it note sticker on it......and me being a cheap *** I turned to Pete and said "Would you take $5 ?"......and he said "yep".....

Yes, I did know that. That's why I grabbed it.
I learned that from reading Garage Journal. Fortunately, the hammer is in great shape and didn't need any cleaning. The picture is as I found it.

Here are all the tools found inside the $5 Craftsman box I bought today as a local GS. I'd say there is at least $5 worth of stuff that came with the box so that was a good deal. While the box itself did not look that old I did find a date stamp of 9/86 so it is actually 29 years old. Almost vintage, someday.

It was raining here this morning so we didn't get out early. There was one sale advertised in the paper that listed tools so we went there first. When we got to the sale there were tools still there but most where spoken for and in piles. I made the mistake of going through one group and was informed right away that they were already sold. I looked the place over and hanging on the pegboard on the garage wall were the tools in the picture, I got everything pictured and more for $17.50. There is a UPLAND FORGE set and a Craftsman V code set that are in really nice condition that was included. The hammer is a old Craftsman. I really hadn't heard about Upland Forge until today. This was the best yard sale find I have found so far this year.

Made it by four sales today and saw a grand total of one tool, so I bought it.
A Milwaukee 6232-21. Brand new, never even been out of the box. Still has the little protector on the plug. Not a bad deal at $175.

I had no time for sales yesterday. I had to go to a wedding, but in the morning I had to make a quick stop at the hardware store and on the way home I saw a sale and stopped in. There was nothing so as Im leaving I ask are you selling any tools and the guy says take a look in the garage, $20 dollars 10 minutes later Im home with this stuff.
