Picked up off CL from a local firearms dealer's estate.

Branson Ultrasonic cleaner, well used but works as it should. Only wish it was heated but can't complain for the price. $50

IMG_0071_zpsghpatbpv.jpg

Just add a Finnex Titanium aquarium heater and a Ranco Temp controller and you'll have a heated US cleaner.

PhillipJ, welcome to the site! Great first post, that lil Proto is pretty sweet!

WNYflyer, SCORE! One of my first ever SO purchases was a 1/4 swivel head just like that, good stuff man!

You're killing me Jake, I have a full set up to like 1-5/16, then a couple misc larger sizes before I stopped actively searching, may have to get back to it now...

3Bay killing it as always.

Bgueniri,
I have excess that might be a good compliment to those 1/4 in drive pieces. Marked chrome vanadium, I think they are indestro, near complete set, in vintage box. PM me if interested-I got them in a box lot, so eager to send them to a good home.

Went to a "barn" sale this morning, and it was actually a gold mine!

Blackhawk 1/2" gearless, misc MAC and Snap On sockets and SO extension and a Plomb LA driver. And then I found this:

Plomb Torker in box, with torque spec sheet!

Took in a couple TOO's, but couldn't get the feeling out of my head there was still good stuff back at the barn, so I went back around noon, to find it pretty picked over, but still some goodies:

And yes, both Bonnies have the sticker still on them! Plus a OTC roto head, SO carb socket, Matco adaptor and a Plomb punch and rivet set. $40 all together.

Three stops planned but only the HS Flea had anything good:

3 bucks for three, combos (Lower Left) two $ for the 2 DOEs, the brass valve, file handle with a round jewelers file (I wanted the handle for the small files) and a Krauter Socket, and a buck and a half for the 422 Channel Lock curved grip (Finally a replacement for the set I've had for decades with a chipped top jaw...) and the green handle Diamond and last on this pic, 3 more combos for two bucks

LED bulbs were three each, the craftsman Sharpener was a buck and the book was cents 50. The book is a war issue and has the disclaimer about meeting rationing, etc.

jakemac,

Very nice wrench set, love those Williams. My catalogs show something like 33 or so different sizes were available. Are you saying you only need one more to complete a set of all those that were available ? If so that is really impressive. Definitely want to see photo's of the set when completed. Those bigger ones are pretty pricey on Ebay but definitely easier to justify when you are closing in on having a complete set.

Well done sir and now go and close that set out !

33 is correct for the pre-SnapOn triple-line series in SAE. 20 wrenches were available in metric from 8mm to 32mm. My source is catalog #308 circa. 1976/77.

And yes, I only need one more to complete the full set of SAE wrenches. A #1193 2-3/16". Now I need to search for the metric wrenches that aren't labeled Vulcan (not sure I'll find any).

As far as I can tell, once SO took over, they expanded the sizes available up to over 3". Unfortunately, they also shortened the length of the wrences, so when you get up to the larger sizes the SO versions can be 2" or more shorter than the old Williams offerings. Less leverage. That's what made me more interested in the older wrenches.

Nine - Good luck finding the larger sizes. They don't show up often, and when they do they ain't cheap. Some sizes only show up once or twice a year. I didn't post the price, but it was $50 before shipping, and that was cheap. Usually they get listed at 3-digit retail pricing. That's why it's taking me so long to fill the set.

I haven't been watching this thread every day, but that must be the third OTC Roto found this year. :rocker:

Neat stuff this weekend, folks!

I spotted an estate sale on the way (ish) home from the airport this morning. It was advertising mid century collectables and a basement full of tools. Well, the mid century part was right, but the basement workshop was practically a small closet in a multi room lower floor.

I dug around in there and two backyard sheds and handed them a Jackson for the following:

The Bonney was an interesting find. It was in the bottom of a metal tool case that had a really neat old Craftsman oscillating sander with a broken handle. When I picked up the sander to admire it, I spotted this little guy in the bottom. I'm 99% certain a 50s Craftsman sander didn't come with a Bonney DBE, so I took it for my pile.

been very quiet around here , slow for tools, but heated up a little with these

craftsman vise a nice pexto hammer and a miss mosh of sk tools, .
then came this guy . 70.00 at a estate sale.
Then the find of the year for me

paid 5.00 at a different sale. I think its is a Prentiss as it has a swivel jaw and looks like it still has some original brown paint with gold pin stripping on it , might not show up well, but glad my week turned around.

Some good finds by a lot of people this weekend!

I was going to be lazy today and catch up on sleep and rest and then I got a text from a friend with a picture of a vintage early 1940's Coca Cola Westinghouse Junior cooler. Text was roughly "Found this in an old barn I am cleaning out are you interested? More stuff here too" So of course I got over there as soon as I could. And spent over 2 hours digging. My truck is loaded full.

You will have to wait until tomorrow for me to unload it and take pictures LOL.

Plus I need to do some research on "Mousehole"!

OK, unloading done and a basic cleanup.

First off the Coca Cola Westinghouse Junior cooler. This is an ice model, no electric cooling. Overall it's in pretty good shape for it's age. I am debating on keeping or selling this one.

Second the anvil. If you saw my earlier post and saw the "1 . 2 . 17 no wonder my back hurts! 1820 - 1835" and wonder what it meant the first part is the weight, 112 + 2x28 + 17 = 185 pound anvil and the M + H Armitage Mouse Hole makings make it an English Mousehole anvil from 1820-1835. As you can see by the pictures the top is in rough shape. I got it for relatively cheap because of the damage. It was buried and I was looking at digging out that yellow Coca Cola plastic crate when I spotted the anvil half buried in the dirt and partially covered.
I didn't have any help to unload so I stuck the board behind the Excursion to guide the anvil away from hitting the bumper and just shoved it out o the back of the truck to fall in the dirt, it did a complete flip and broke the plywood on the way down LOL.

Other things I picked up:
A pair of General Electric light fixtures.
The aforementioned yellow Coca Cola crate.
Craftsman reel type push mower.
Crown label pipe threading kit
Well bucket
Corn husker with a Tiki handle LOL.

I paid $240 for everything.

FL18: sweet little Prentiss and can you post up a few more pictures of the vise and the part it's mounted on either here or on the big vise thread? also how heavy is your Reed 33 and looks like it's missing the bottom swivel piece with it's big wing nut and the almost always missing pipe jaws. nice finds.

ALL: found a few things at the end of a sale where most things were maybe even above Ebay pricing so 1/2 off still wasn't a deal. anybody know what this little tool does? the owner thought it was a leather punch so maybe for belt holes or do tell? if i forget to take a bag i usually manage to buy a tool box or bucket and i have more than a few of each now. this one is maybe a good size for something and i'll have to see what i can use it for.

OUTLAW: since i own a handsaw vise, several old hand saws i'm even more happy that i grabbed this TOOTHSETTER. that's why i still grab tools i don't know what they were made for. thank you very much

ALL: Google and Youtube and i found a video showing what the Toothsetter was made to do and i really had to google kerf to know for sure what kind of saw Outlaw was talking about.

cheers

I also picked up this cool little wood workbench mainly for the vise, but the vise will never be removed from this bench if i have something to say about it. also Carla mentioned the bench might be 1900-1920's and maybe a pre design for a Workmate. there is a few more pictures and i started a thread about this little bench to find out more information over in vintage tool section if you might have one or have seen one to lend your thoughts over there if you would. thanks

I went vise and anvil hunting today at the local swap meet, but came up empty handed. A lot of broken parkers and small exposed screw vises. There was also a fixed based unmarked 4" vise but I passed. Passed on a $75 blacksmith vise.

The biggest vise a saw was this PENN 525-1/2. I've never heard of these. Anyone have info on it. I left it there because it was too rough.

The garage sales have really dried up here, but I did pick up a nice batch of hardware along with a few punches and nail sets, can opener and one lone file at a local antique store for $10. The Triumph drill bit set was given to me by a friend cleaning out her dad's estate this week.

This past weekends finds and the previous weekends finds.

Two weekends ago, I found a Kennedy 1017 ($26.25) and a Mohawk 12"scale with an unmarked center head ($1).

This past weekend, I found a SK box, a 14mm/18mm spark plug rethreader tool, an L.S.S. 12" scale, and a GTD No. 329 tap handle all for $4

Is the LSS company the same as Starrett?

Carla mentioned the bench might be 1900-1920's and maybe a pre design for a Workmate. there is a few more pictures and i started a thread about this little bench to find out more information over in vintage tool section if you might have one or have seen one to lend your thoughts over there if you would. thanks

No. Ron Hickman invented the Workmate in the early 1960s. The common element in his prototypes is two work surfaces with a space between. The feature of collapsing for transport was added in his second version, and later, the moving jaws. In the late 1960s, his design was rejected by B&D, Stanley, Record, Spear&Jackson, Marples, so he manufactured and marketed it himself until B&D came around and cut a deal in 1974. There's a good photo of the first three prototypes on p213 of Scott Landis' 1987 The Workbench Book.

Just add a Finnex Titanium aquarium heater and a Ranco Temp controller and you'll have a heated US cleaner.

Davefr,

Thanks for the info ! ... Have a guy at work who is really into the fish thing so he should be able to help on the best places to purchase.

Super nice find on the plvmb torque wrench with box :rocker: You need to post that in the vintage tool section in the "show us your plomb tools" thread.

Picked up a nice little lot at a sale in the neighborhood last weekend for $19. My favorite is the Proto Los Angeles key chain.

Outlaw, no such luck on the hatchet being anything super special. 4" long blade, Plumb branded. Nice head with minimal edge damage. Will need a new handle, but the price was right.

New to me drill press my neighbor was selling. I want to clean up all of the surface rust, especially on the steel column. Any suggestions?
