It's a screwdriver. The shank twists in the handle with a slight twist of the wrist.
That is the oldest I've seen. Klein came out with a modernized version for use by electricians in the mid 1970's. A transition between the old Yankee and those new fangled battery powered Makitas. If you slipped using a yankee you ended up with a hole in the wall. Those 6 volt Makitas didn't hold a charge very long and you had to take the whole drill to the receptacle to charge it.

Moving out a pharmaceutical company for the past week and managed to cabbage on to a few goodies for my self! 4 sections of chrome wire shelving , stainless steel fire extinguisher cabinet with the fire extinguisher , Stack-on wire terminal set, 6" pair of Channel lock pliers, Giant pair of stainless steel twisters and a small but heavy built hard plastic tote....Cost? Bought the right guy lunch!:pimpflash
Free is nearly always a good deal. That much free is a You **** deal! Those style shelves can be a couple hundred each when new. Well done.

Lots of nice finds for such a young year...I can only imagine how quickly it will blow up once the season gets fully underway, especially in Yankee land :)

I'd mentioned in my previous post about a Lista box I picked up for $40. It was a little rough but after pounding out a few larger dents and putting a cheap paint job on it, it will do.

WP_20170131_00_26_18_Pro.jpg

I don't have any before pictures of it but it was full of surface rust, but nothing terribly bad. The drawers still need some attention and lubrication.

WP_20170202_22_37_23_Pro.jpg

I originally planned to put it in storage for the time being, however I was fortunate enough to pick up a horizontal mill this week from another GJ member and it will now serve as a base for it. Not a great deal but a fair deal and I've wanted one for a while.

WP_20170131_22_29_42_Pro.jpg

A few weeks ago I picked up this Kalamazoo 10" disc sander with a dust collector built into the base for $125

WP_20170131_00_26_48_Pro.jpg

Yesterday afternoon I took a long lunch and went to an ongoing sale of a hoarder who recently passed away. For $130 I picked up the following:

1 HP block grinder, Craftsman "Industrial" stand. Two NOS grinding wheels (I know, I know, be careful). Paint flaking but no serious corrosion, some rust on the stand. Runs well and only seems to need one tool rest.

WP_20170202_17_56_21_Pro.jpg

10 foot stainless table. Not sure what gauge metal it is, but it's thicker than I expected and more than sturdy enough for my needs. Very happy to have this as the wood table / stand I had back there was falling apart, thus I'd been looking for a while.

WP_20170202_17_53_07_Pro.jpg

Bonney refrigeration tool, double box square wrench, Williams ratchet and 31/32 socket, CM 1/2" to 3/4" adapter, mixed Armstrong and Snap On hex sockets

WP_20170202_22_42_37_Pro.jpg

The guy wasn't advertising too hard, however as he'd been cleaning things out for weeks I'm extremely curious as to what I may have missed out on. Going back tomorrow (if they're open) and Saturday if I can.

Not really a garage sale, but on the way home from work I found this neat 1964 SENG chair in the trash. In pretty good shape and was perfectly functional except for one wheel was locked up at some point and drug along the concrete long enough to flatten it. After replacing it all is well.

Nice finds Merc. Can't put a old Lista down!

I'm with ha on wondering what I missed at sales like that. Some day I'll hear about someone cleaning out before they start:D

Know any good upholstery shops that can fix up the seat on that chair?

Lugnutz, thank you for info. These Wrenches are in very good condition. Lucky enough to grab two more today at a different location .
Glad to help. They are mighty handy. The wartime sets I collect had a 6-inch and a 14-inch. Walworth supplied their other line - the WALCO, which was not strictly a Stillson pattern, with the housing and the handle being one solid piece. They were kind enough to include a forged-in date code on the handle of that model for us future WWII collectors.

I made out okay at the Earl Bird Flea Market this morning...

The 15 oz lever type grease gun is genuine wartime with the correct markings (Stewart-Warner Model 6593) and traces of OD paint over red primer on the handle, just like the others I have found or seen. This one is in very good condition. One of these (or an equivalent from Lincoln) was put in a bracket under the hood of every Willys MB jeep after December 2, 1943.

The short 1/2-inch sq drive brace type speeder is a DURO model 652. Pre or early war.

The 2 oz can of bore cleaner with the Federal Stock Number (51-C-1313-392) is KW era (1952).

Only one estate sale today and it was CRAZY the amount of people there this morning. I guess everyone is wanting to get out now that the weather is halfway decent... lol.

Found a nice set of Craftsman wood turning chisels, I think only a couple have been used. There was a nice shopsmith there (priced kind of high), so I left the other set of ShopMate chisels in case someone bought the lathe. I'll probably head back Sunday (1/2 price) and see what is left. Also found a box with a bunch of pegboard hooks and such.

Box of sockets, a lot were Wizard brand? Also some SK with tapered ends? Small ones were taiwan... Also some router bits and other misc stuff in there.

Last find was on OfferUp (some new phone app like LetGo & CL), got another Ace tap & die set and a bunch of old Craftsman sockets & wrenches, a few Pittsburgh (HF), cheap digital caliper. I think only the sockets might be continuous sizes, the rest are kind of random.

For VERY high-resolution:

The attached images are 1/4 full size.

Someone was there before me and left with most of the Craftsman made in USA stuff. They left a bunch of nice, lesser known brand stuff there. I had to pick through dozens and dozens of unmarked Taiwanese, Japanese, and Indian tools to get just this stuff.

I can confirm that Harbor Freight did indeed make far worse wrenches. The Pittsburgh (India) ones felt flimsy and had awful chrome, but they were still mirror polished. They were worse than the Kmart Auto (China) ones, which had both sides marked with sizes and a raised panel. Nothing was worse than the Taiwanese stamped wrenches and Japanese no-name sockets.

None of these American wrenches were in the same place. Neither were the sockets. They never are.

Wrenches
Ford
Fleet
Herbrand
Indestro
Proto
SK Lectrolite
Sockets
Craftsman
Easco

Walden

All of this for $6.

Finally got some action this year. Bought this bandsaw with stand and slo-speed converter for $65. Had to disassemble it to fit into my vehicle.

Got my Reed 102-1/2 in the mail today. I wasn't expecting it until next week, so it was a pleasant surprise when I opened the mailbox this evening (it's a good thing I installed an extra large mailbox. Worth the money, it gets a good workout).

It's in much better shape than seen in the pictures. It should clean up nicely.
I'll post more in the Vise thread later.

EDIT - More here :

Awesome score, any idea of the speed ranges with it?

Bagged, cool find! Can you show the insides of the speed converter?

I'll will post more on my bandsaw restore and my garage thread.

This bandsaw has a reinforced frame. And a quick release upper wheel tension. Looks like a pain to adjust.
e63d68536687ab830b484690e0c0df47.jpg
12" pulley on the bandsaw and this table is notched to allow room for the pulley. My other bandsaw table has no notch.

Speed converter made by savage mfg. co.
372897c118f367ea68a224814da53a42.jpg

I didn't have a chance to measure the pulley on the motor side but it's about 2" in diameter. If that's the case, the bandsaw is spinning at approximately 29.16 rpm based on these calculations I found.

Speed reducer is 10:1.
Motor 1750 rpm
Motor side pulley 2"
Bandsaw side pulley 12"

Small pulley speed =1750rpm/10= 175rpm
Pulley ratio. 6:1
175rpm/6 =29.16 rpm.

Now who knows how to calculate blade speed? Found a calculator on vintagemachinery which says I'm at approximately 90 sfpm(surface feet per minute). Based on my pulley size estimate of 2". If it's a 3" pulley then the speed is around 137 sfpm.

20170203_140126_zps0chylw7i.jpg

I had to laugh when I saw the picture of the bore cleaner. In 1983 the Army started shutting down some warehouses at Lexington Blue Grass Depot, KY. A lot of stuff was relocated to Ravenna Army Arsenal, Ohio. I was assigned to inventory the Ravenna warehouses. Most of the stuff was WWII or Korea era issue There was 50 cases of the same bore cleaner. After the inventory the bore cleaner was given to local Army Reserve and National Guard units.

John

Picked up this nice old Weis 2 drawer storage cabinet -- My guess would be it's probably from the 1940s - 1950s. It weighs in at a hefty 13# and is 12" x 9.5" x 14.25"

Went to the second weekend of a tool sale. The place was stripped of anything i might have been interested in. Mostly junk left. At least I finally got out of the house for a few minutes.

I snagged a huge oak roll top desk the other night.... unfortunately, newer and half solid / half ply. Not bad for $75 though. Just got back from picking up a 30's or so dresser for the misses.... while waiting for a guy to call me back as to when I can pick up this CMan block grinder with pedestal. No details posted about it, looks to a gold labeled 1/2HP commercial one.

Our local sears has been "targeted for termination" all month I have been going in as often as I could to buy display's and signs. No such luck. The one weAk I don't make it in and they sell every thing but this one display . The Mach series tool line. I picked it up with all the tools for $50 bucks + tax. $160 bucks worth of tools alone if bought new.

Also I finished that chair I picked up last week Jake and here's how it turned out. I couldn't make a living doing upholstery but I think it will hold up to my shrinking back side... Down 50lbs in 10 weAks :rocker:

Sure wish I could figure out why these photos decide to go side ways ????:headscrat

Not much happening this week, but these are some books I picked up at last week's estate sale. My favorite is "Handy tips for Handy Men".

Didn't go to any today, kind of under the weather but also no new sales. Will hit up a couple tomorrow when it's 1/2 price day...

I did stop by a couple pawn shops, found a 1/2" SK ratchet, an extension, and some sockets.

Chair looks good Topop!

Merc and I scored today at a sale he hit a few days ago. Damn if it wasn't a two story house/mechnic shop about as long as a football field, full of ****! I'm on sensory overload right now, I'll get pics of my small score later this evening. Some items I did not buy but may return for, NOS Offenhauser aluminum intakes for various engines, swivel bearing pillow blocks, casters out the *** but can't find 4 matching of any except one set of china looking metal ones I may get. He had a V series Craftsman roller bottom and top and was asking $100, he had a Wilton bullet but it wasn't for sale. There was a ton of AC Delco NOS ignition type parts in original boxes, starter parts and pieces, etc. The guy must have had an auto parts store at some point, there was cases of cheap 12v switches and leds etc from early-mid 2000's all NOS sealed parts. He hit a lot of auctions as well, lots of items had "Lot #**" stickers on them. Imagine room for one foot in front of the other with boxes piled floor to ceiling in every room, 2 story... Lots of cheap **** and literal garbage to dig though but there are certainly some gems to be found, pics coming soon.

Thank You Merc, for getting me out the house, bringing me to your honey hole and buying me lunch afterwards. IOU man!

It's to demonstrate the use of the long T handle 1/4 driver. It's pretty cool. You can even drive it from one end of the "T" handle. The ball bearing sleeve was tested up to 1700rpm's .

IOU man!

Thanks nine! Can't wait to see the pictures of the stuff you got

Had a pretty good day ! One of the items was this 4 drawer MAC tool box.
A little rough but works fine.
Not finding a model number ?

No sooner walked in the door this morning and got a hit on my CL ad looking for Vise's. Picked up two for my self and one custom job to do. The custom is a rough 5" bullet dated 1-85 that's caked inside with grease , one busted jaw insert and a missing dust cover. It's a fixed base. The two for me were a 3-1/2 Chicago era Wilton dates 2- 52 and a 2-79 4" Wilton . Both mine are swivel based. It was and even trade. I get the two for restoring the 5". It's going to cost me a bit of time and a new set of jaws and a dust cap. It seemed like a fair deal to me!:pimpflash

Disregard that post, I just found it. Floss/thread organizer. Merc was interested if it were Delorean Motor Company. [emoji3]
