And 1 wrench,:lol_hitti...You guys are a bad influence.
The 3/8 ratchet at the bottom of the pic was just given to me last week by my uncle Roy. It was a gift to my great grandfather from his wife sometime in the late 30s, still works great.

I just got this I think its a bit strange because the box is blue I have seen to many and does anyone know what is supposed to be included in this set I never gave much thought to old tools until recently now I love them

Interesting - that blue looks just like the Penncraft boxes for the small socket sets. I still have the one I bought in 1969. The Penncraft tools were made by New Britain, but later on S-K made Penney's tools, branded JCPenney. But, I think that was late enough - 80's - that the boxes were all plastic. Even the later Penncraft boxes are plastic. Anyone know of a steel S-K made JCPenney box?

I picked up quite a bit of vintage S-K at an estate sale on Thursday described as the "mother load" by the seller, which I found amusing. Actually, my wife spotted the S-K sets. This batch included another of the S-K marked blue boxes.

Thanks, Todd! While I had them out, I took a picture of all of my knurled socket 1/4" drive S-K sets. I could use a wartime finish 1/4" ratchet and extensions.

Garage Sale find... Paper has a copyright of 1983... So guessing that's about their age... :)

This is the only one that "could" be correct. Appears to be cad plated but the handle also looks like it was painted red at one time.

How do you know the age of a S&K set. I just put a nice old vintage set for sell in the classifieds section and someone asked me how old they were.

If they are really old, sometimes you can tell based on how the sockets are stamped / shaped.

The metal diamond logo is older style than the more modern square one (like in my set above)... Or if it "SK Wayne". Also sometimes the shape of the ratchet can give an indicator.

Doesn't look like a SK ratchet in there?

If you are dealing with 1/4" drive sets and they have their spinners the amber spinner is earliest, the solid green spinner is SK Wayne and the green and white spinner is the most modern, relatively speaking.

The paint job came out great. The toolboxes aren't extremely rare so if you are happy with the results I wouldn't worry about the lack of originality. If you are concerned about the missing S-K logo you could find a plate from a donor box. Personally, I might personalize that plate with my initials or name. Good job!

Username sent me these nice S-K wrenches as part of a tool trade. They are in great condition and look good in the S-K box.

I have what appears to be a dresser era 1/4 drive set that the box has seen better days. I'm missing, it seems, like the ratchet, 3" extension, and 1 socket, 40913. Also, the I haven't found any info on the allen wrench setup. I did find that it is an SK product. Is it rare?

If the allen wrench setup is SK, I havent seen many. That being said, it is in such poor shape that it wouldn't be worth much either way. The Green and white spinner handle would be collectable and the paper in the socket box would interest some people.

If this should be its own thread, let me know. I created this table to keep track of the ratchet and breaker models SK has made over the years, and to lessen some of my confusion. If anyone can fill in any of the blanks, or provide additional info, I would love to have it. This is an Excel file that I can send to anybody that wants it, or you can use the PDF here. Pm me an email address.

Who knows what the Tuff1 models 40980 and 45180 were supposed to be?

I did not include the frankensteins because the pics I have show no part numbers.

Does anybody have a picture of a 40175 Tuff1 long handle 1/2" ratchet?

Thanks, STMH

With help from Twertsy and Tin Medic I was able to complete my WW2 vintage S-K 1/4" drive socket set. Twertsy provided the wartime finish unplated ratchet and Tin Medic supplied the amber handle spinner. The red paint on the ratchet was easily removed with a dental pick. Here are a few pictures.

I love those brown boxes. The metal is nice and thick. That is a great looking set!

Thanks! Just when I think I've got that set completed with the cad finish sockets,
I picked up this dark finish partial set yesterday that might be an even better match for the drive tools.

In 1/4" drive S-K sockets, I need (3) of the 3/16" 40906, (2) of the 7/32" 40907, (1) of the 1/4" 40908, (1) of the 9/32" 40909, and (1) of the 5/16" 40910. I would prefer the dark finish sockets but would take any plain or cad plated ones. If they are chrome plated I can't use them due to the WW2 metal restrictions.
Please let me know what you can use in trade. I think that I have a spare set of early S-K chrome fractional 3/8" drive sockets and a few others. Thanks again for the offer
-Don

I picked up 2 midget SK sets from the flea. One is a near complete wartime set, only missing the Tbar handle for the breaker. The other is an SK-Wayne set, missing a few sockets.

I received this beautiful S-K DBE wrench set with the roll from a noted GJ contributor as part of a tool trade. My S-K box runneth over, literally.

Love those Brazil boxes in red! I have a brown one that you can barely make out the Triangle "Brazil" logo.
