I cleaned them up a bit. The 3025 is KW (Nov1945). The 821A is not marked with any date code. It has the forged-in B-shield on the shank without “made in usa,” embedded-shield “Bonney” on one face, and SAE bolt sizes (not across-flats) on the opposite faces.

It’s probably not your eyes. My pics are posting at reduced resolution from my iphone. When I first joined, I had to upload them from my desktop to get full resolution. Then for months, they were posting at full resolution directly from the phone, and I got “lazy.” I’ll try updating from the desktop.

Edit: Yeah, that's a bit different! I think at least 4x better. I see what you mean about the “date code” in pic2: looks like a “Y.” It must have been a ding in the crud, enhanced by the lighting and camera angle; it wasn’t noticeable in person.

I found this Bonney DBE wrench at a flea market. I just wanted the experts to verify that I'm not mistaken? Am I wrong or is the date code October 1934?

The resolution of the pics is limiting. The overall design looks to have a flattened round shank, but I can’t make out which Bonney logo is on it, or which alloy it may be - both help to narrow down the cycle of the date code system it’s from. In your closeup, I see JX; that could be October 1932, 1946, 1960... But maybe it is JZ, so could be 1934, 1948, 1962... as you say.

I think you’re absolutely right about 1934. I see the JZ. The Zenel alloy puts it in that period. I see the 289X series in the 1936 Bonney Gray catalog in the CV alloy, but Zenel was probably offered, too, whether it got into catalogs or not.

Found a few Bonney pieces a the flea today.
The B-100 locking pliers are the first I've seen and the tiny 1/4" streamline is pretty neat as well.
11/16" deep socket and prewar 5/8" (CV) A series socket.

I am now a lot closer to to the ratchet set I had when I started. I had broke my Bonney flex head 3/8ths ratchet (non-locking) P/N T-703K a few years ago and I loved that ratchet. Easily got into tight areas and was built strongly to take the daily abuse and use of a aircraft mechanic. I saw the new listing on eBay and I have bought from the seller before. Now I have my early 1980's ratchet set complete.

Cool news! Always liek to hear about completed sets.

I'm not a big fan of flex ratchets but had the opportunity to snag a Bonney 3/8" T-703K and bought it. Pretty nice condition, will use it if the need arises.
No doubt about it's strength - the 3/8" flex is 3 inches LONGER than the standard ratchet. They wouldn't have added that extra leverage if the pin joint couldn't take it.

When I worked on jet engines that flex head was a life saver. I could get that thing to fit into spots that nothing else would fit and do the job. Several areas on the interior it also would fit. I know that it was not the day to day ratchet for normal use, but man that thing was always tempting to use because of the longer length on really stubborn fasteners.

Well I got the new Bonney T-703K 3/8ths ratchet in the shop and I went and took the head apart, cleaned it (just had to wipe it down) lubed it and put it back together. This thing is virtually brand new old stock, Their is hardly no marks on it and it has no marking of the anvil where a socket has been on it. The ratchet has excellent feel and just the right amount of back drag that all properly lubed Bonney ratchets have.

Hats off to the guy on eBay for putting on the site and also he shipped it in bubble wrap, craft paper around the bubble wrap and then fitted it in a box that had 3 layers of tape and fit the wrapping and wrench perfectly.

As nice as this is I will be using it in the future but it looks exactly like my first flex head. I did post better pictures and I hope they come out in FULL SIZE.....:lol_hitti

^ I've been "sniped" a couple times in the last 3 or 4 seconds of an auction, and it kind of pissed me off. I figured I'd try a different tactic. On an item that I expected some competition on, I waited until the clock wound down to 12 seconds, entered a bid, and then immediately submitted a max bid that was well in excess of what any sane reasonable person would have paid for the item.
I did not win that auction. The snipe guy did, and he paid dearly for that piece.
I haven't had any recurrent incidents lately on that particular product line.

;)

That is why I quit doing the active auctions and just go for buy it now or ones that make a offer.

The mail arrived today and I had ordered the Gray Bonney sticker as I thought it was kind of neat. The ebay picture would make you think it might be larger but I had read that the sticker was approximately 3 X 5 and I knew that it would fit on the toolbox where I wanted it. It fit perfectly.

Those single offsets that still had the stickers on them? I had em watched but didn't get into it.

Yeah. I bid and it sat for days. Then I set my max bid higher in the last couple minutes, but not as high as the sniper. Probably should have paid it now instead, though the final bid was still lower than that. Live & learn.

A forum member gave me a pair of Bonney ratcheting flare wrenches. A 7/8" single and a 3/4x5/8 "dualie".
Nice pieces to add to the work truck specialty tools.

I found this Matco 15MM wrench made by Triangle Corp the other day on eBay. I have been skunked on finding a 15 and 13 MM long pattern wrenches from Bonney but the Matco versions are fairly easy to find. So Matco is what I ended up with for now.

Dude, thank you so much for the tip!! You just ended a frustrating and fruitless 3 year search for a MEB10.

Matco part numbers will be WCL followed by the size for the long wrenches and WC follow by the size for the short wrenches.

$55 at antique store in Thorp, WA. Pretty rough shape, and I don't need it, left it, but cool to see nonetheless.

^ I thought the only thing in Thorp was a fruit stand.
I'll have to stop next time I'm headed that way. ;)

I have been out towards Thorp in the last maybe ten years. I would love to go there but I have been super busy. I retired in April and now am busier then before I retired. :pimpflash
