Picked these up today, I think the combo is at the end of its road. I don’t collect early DOEs but I can’t pass up any Bonney.

Some Bonney pieces at the early bird today...

Post-war B17 dykes, a couple of post-war LT- series 3/8-inch drive deep sockets (to the right in Photos 2), and a couple wartime V- series 1/4-inch drive 6-pt sockets. The green you're seeing on the WWII-era sockets is a baked-on enamel OD finish!

Got the metric long set a few days ago, cleaned the years or crud off as much as possible.
View media item 76773Most have slight rust spots, the 19mm is the worst, 14mm has a little chrome peel where the open end has been hammered on. Overall a good user set that was pretty cheap.

There is a fair few Nos angle wrenches on ebay listed today, inch sizes if anyone is after some, not cheap and the postage kills the deal for me, but not ridiculously priced IMO either.

I already commented on the wartime V- series midget set on your "Finds" thread, Todd, but I must've missed that utility knife! That one has me envious. And if you're not stuck on it, I would be interested in a trade for it. It was made by Stanley for Bonney. You can see the Stanley version here.

Greg, I have been "lusting" after one of those knifes for a long time! Yes, I know they come up on eBay but I wanted to FIND one. Do you have any idea (I'm sure you do) how many Stanley knives I've turned over in a box of junk hoping for that Bonney logo?

If I find another...................

From eBay and into my tool box. A 1/2" Bonney speed handle

Nice looking piece!

Dumb question: What are speeder handles for? An old time job that isn't so popular anymore? Or a way to get some speed before power tools became commonplace?
I don't see that many in newer brands of tools, but see lots of vintage ones like yours. I have one or two, but never use them. In fact I've never used speed handles. Maybe I'm just odd or something? :D

I have a two car garage with no air compressor, so I bought speed handles in 3/8" and 1/2". I've come to use them fairly often, especially for tire changes.

I like that they're quiet - no compressor kicking in! I can be in the garage working away in peace, yet much faster than using a ratchet. Granted, they work best when you have several (same size), long bolts or threaded studs that you're working with.

Blow the dust off 'em and give them a try!

I have used speed handles for years. I started using them when I was a fork lift mechanic to run down covers, run down nuts and bolts all over and start the head bolts, I never really used them that much on aircraft where I spent the majority of my career, about the only place that they were handy was removing screws from wing panels, fairings and the such with the proper driver. It was just lots quieter and with comparable speed to air ratchets. I still use them even today as if I have the room to use them.

Went pawn shopping with the wife today and scored a 12MM quarter inch socket brand new. I reach into a bin full of metric sockets and in the first socket I look at is this new socket. Not bad at all. Price was .25 cents

Before cordless power tools, speeders were the way to handle lag screws. Think 1930's through 1970's highway road sign crew, for a good example.

I haven't post here in ages as my nos bonny stock seemed to dry up.
I had a chance to buy a pf-50 small soft hammer, but didn't, a couple of weeks back. Then yesterday.
IMAG1226.jpg
Three T34 screwdriver 3/8 square drive.
Four VU-10 1/4 drive flex sockets.
Three 23334 3/4 loc-rite 12 love combination box - flare wrenches 30° angle.
And a set (80223)of 9 piece 1/4 drive sockets VL-6 to VL-16 (minus VL-13) from a quick look at the 77 catalogue on my phone I didn't see this specific set, but similar to B-80206 except on a rail not a tray.
The cardboard box is in very good condition, a little ripping where the tape that kept it closed took sine of the printing of. The sockets were plastic wrapped, but that's slightly torn.

Nice find! That size flare/box combo is still quite usable, as even in our metric-covered world 3/4" Loc-Rite will handle 19mm perfectly.

The deep 1/4"ers aren't too hard to find. But the VL-13 doesn't show up in any of my catalogs. That would be 13/32" if I'm extrapolating correctly. Never seen that size before.
If it's a -12 or -14 I might have a spare to give you. Let me know the size and I'll check my stash.

I've found a bunch of these Bonney brake spring pliers, and I know Todd has as well, but it's always fun - especially because they're the ones shown in the WWII upper echelon tool-set maintenance catalogs! These are post-war (April '47)

Thanks bonnyman, but what I meant was it's a complete set 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16,. The sockets are still plastic wrapped. Many thanks for the offer though.

Agreed on the 3/4 one of the few SAE sizes I can actually use. I do occasionally come across imperial on older machines so is still useful to have. I am very unlikely to use any of the sockets.

Todays haul, I found the Bonney DBE 2895C first at a Habitat for Humanity 2nd hand store first got it cheap for a couple bucks. Then stopped in a 2nd hand tool store and found the 10" Utica adjustable wrench and the LD28T 7/8ths deep well socket and got the adjustable wrench and socket for $5.00.

I have never seen a VL-13 (12 point) or VLH-13 (6 point) and I have almost complete sets of both the 6 point and the 12 point. Only ones I have missing in the 12 point is VL-9 (9/32") and in the 6 point VLH-11 (11/32")

Funny thing is the 12 point 9/16's deep 1/4" drive socket has no part number and it has my initials in it so it that is from my original set I bought back in 1983.

Yeah Mike I think he meant metric sizes as revealed in his follow-up post. I don't have any deep metric 1/4" drive sockets, just a set of shallows.

But I might have a spare VL-9 for ya. Let me take a look and I'll let you know.

That would be nice that would complete my set.

I think that he has a SAE set as the metric has a groove cut into the lower side of the sockets and the pictures seem to show that the sockets do not have the groove.

Sorry all, I have added to the confusion and not clarified it. Typing on the phone so I was taking short cuts.
The complete set is SAE, VL-6 (3/16) VL-7(7/32) Etc. Up to VL-12(3/8) then VL-14 and VL-16(1/2). So nine deep 1/4 drive sockets, a complete set plastic wrapped and in the original cardboard box with Utica Bonney stamps on box with a large triangle stamp and Utica tool Co. Inc. Subsidiary of the triangle corporation also on the box. I actually like the box as much as the sockets! Though it is cardboard.

That is OK as I will find a replacement as I know what happened to the VL-9 I had. It was broken as I have the lower end and half of the upper end, the rest was shattered off.

. I pretty well knew that you had the SAE's, I just looked at the pictures and knew they were SAE. That is awesome they even had the SAE in your country as that is hardly used there.

The company I am finding these discounted in supplied an American multinational (gateway computers)that closed shop nearly 20 years ago. They were sitting in their store room since then, they aren't being brought out in one go for sale because they are spread through out the store room. brought out when found
SAE hasn't been used here in decades, metric only. I do some work on old bicycle so they are useful to have, but rarely needed.

Sounds like it could be a gold mine! There was a Bonney lode of sorts found in an old warehouse about 10 years ago. Harry Epstein company got a hold of it. About a pallets worth IIRC. They made an announcement, put the stuff up on their website, and holy smokes the stuff just flew out the door!
Keep up apprised of any new Bonney stuff that they bring out. I'm sure there's lots of folks here (me included) who would love to know.

Well todays haul was courtesy of eBay. What I got was a A42 1 5/16" one half inch drive socket.

I also have included a toolbox tour of my Bonney 44" (Harbor Freight) toolbox and where I am at for the basic tool setup that is very close to what I originally had when I bought my set in 1983. I have lots to go in getting a complete set of everything but I had the basic set and after that I was a cash and carry mechanic with no payments to the tool trucks. That means my Bonney set is now in semi-retirement and I use what every is in my main box for everything else.

Now on to the rest of the tour. IN the final picture you see a Gould's flaring kit and that is original with the Bonney set when I bought it as I needed more then 1/2" Bonney flaring kit. Hence the Gould is original to my Bonney set. The 3rd picture is empty Bonney boxes and in the rest picture for some reason I have the 1/4" torque wrench box in that drawer.
