Craftsman Edge Utility Cutter
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-edge-utility-cutter/p-00937309000P
$21.99 regularly, $16.99 online sale

I'm probably going to use my $10 in-store offer on this today (will price-match in-store if needed)... Not the lowest price I've seen ($14.99, I think during the last Christmas season), but pretty close. It has been full price for the last several months, just finally went on sale again this morning.

I was debating between this model vs the Handi-Cut (which spends more time on sale) last time they were both on sale, and decided I wanted to go with this one. They both use proprietary plastic 'anvils', but the Handi-Cut also uses proprietary blades, and they are more of a hassle to change. This one uses standard utility knife razorblades. The anvils apparently can be ordered from Ronan Tools with excessive shipping fees, or from Amazon 3rd-party for $16 for two (free shipping eligible), or if you have access to a 3D printer (some public libraries have them now, one near some of my relatives does) you can make more with https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:900860 for the cost of a small amount of filament.

Thanks for the information. The reviews on Sears criticize the unavailability of the plastic anvil. May try to print one sample anvil first at the library before ordering the cutter.

Interesting. I've owned the handicut for several years and it hadn't occurred to me I'd ever need to replace the plastic anvil. Granted, I've only needed to use it probably 5 times in the past 3-4 years.

With both Handi-Cut and the Edge Cutter, from reading the reviews, it's a matter of how much you use it and how tough of things you're cutting with it are - the harder it snaps through the last bit of what you're cutting, the more it gouges into the anvil.

Was searching for something to spend my $10 in-store freecash, and I noticed one of these things was not like the others. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite "Made in USA" as I was expecting while removing all the newer versions in front of it on the hook :

"Assembled in USA of US and foreign components"

Craftsman 33-Piece Screwdriver Tamper-Proof Bit Set $12.69 (Made in China)

Nice find. According to the reviews, there's a notable decline from the US version of that product you found, to the current all-Chinese version. (Though it sounds like the Chinese one still gets the job done well enough, people who've had both complain about the negative differences.)

"I recently bought what I thought was a second 33 bit screwdriver set that was similar to one I bought 10 years ago from Sears and still have. Sorry to say that quality has gone to such lows I will not be buying Craftsman again. From the bit holder that can not be secured to the stem of the driver to the grubby steel that can not be used without getting your hands filthy to the bits that can not be removed without working the ones around it loose. I'm just glad I didn't spend more to learn how far they have dropped."

"I've had a 33-piece screw driver for many years. The screwdriver I have has a hole through the red holder that fits on the screwdriver. This newer version of the red holder is cheaply made. No hole just a plastic clip that easily falls off the screwdriver."

I got a text today from KMart... Spend $40 and get $20 back in in points... I just looked on their website and it appears to be site-wide...

It was offered last week too when I had a $10 free cash off $25.

There were limitations to the 10 off 25 though. No Fruit of the Loom or Hanes products

That’s always my go to.

After the order was placed I got a $15 free cash off $20.

I had to work on my mower earlier, and realized all of my 3/8 extension are too big. Manage to complete the job anyway, turning the socket with long screwdriver lol. My wife was amused that from all the tools I have bought, I do not have this little extension.

Craftsman 1/4in dr. extension 3in $1.99 from $3.99. Good deal for filler, or if you do not have 1/4 extension like me.

Have a great Sunday folks!

Nice filler for those who still have one in their local store, though it's unshippable and OOS within 100 miles for me. :)

I think you've still got quite a leg up on most of us there... there's only ever been 2 Sears near me (one close by, the next 30-45min away). :) And it's probably been at least 20 years since I've seen a Kmart.

I guess it's one of those spoiled by choices thing. I went to one today to spend two of the $10 freecash coupons...was not spoiled by choice in-store, only good stuff around $10 are Ullman rebrands and magnetic bowls. Meh, my inspection mirror and my bowl were free so I guess I can't complain...but man, it's a sad sight in that ghost town.

Wow.. do not realize that this is OOS for some folks. Maybe they are discontinuing this? :dunno: I am lucky I can pick this up at local hometown store next week.

@Hexen, your post convince me to order another one. Can not beat the price...

I successfully acquired the Edge Cutter with online price-match and the $10 in-store-only freecash offer this evening. Didn't get any very good coupons/offers on the receipt printout, though.

I also went and got a photo of what the new design of the Chinese punch/chisel holder looks like now (they reused the same item number as the very different US version, and the photo on the website for it still shows the US version). I may eventually get one anyway despite the inferior design and finish, since it's the only such product that would be at no OOP cost to me, but definitely disappointed I missed out on the US version before it disappeared last year.

NWfxcVk.jpg

As I was leaving, I heard the cashier trying to explain to a clueless customer (who thought Craftsman had made all their own tools in a "Craftsman" factory  ) that some of the currently-out-of-stock tools were in the process of changing vendors, from whoever used to manufacture those items, to Stanley B&D. So sounds like we will be seeing Stanley-made Craftsman items in Sears in addition to Lowe's some time this year.

Craftsman 8 Pc. XL Ratcheting Wrench Set SAE - $64.99

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-8pc-max-axess-wl-ratcheting-wrench-set/p-00910915000P

The price of SAE version continues to drift down a little. The metric set has been cheaper... but think the SAE version "not available" at that time.

I have the metric set... no complaints... used them to bust off some rusted caliper bolts. The extra length definitely helped.

They are a "Hot Buy" so coupons probably won't work... but Surprise FreeCash points should.

Another random wrench set on a "Hot Buy" sale today:

Craftsman Extreme Grip 5-Piece Wrench Set
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-5-piece-extreme-grip-wrench-set/p-00912758000P
$59.99 regularly, $19.99 online 'hot buy' sale

The box end of these adjusts slightly to work on both an SAE size and the closest metric size.

----

I see some significant design changes when comparing it to a friend's China version, so they probably should have changed the model #:

  • Aluminum shaft, versus stainless steel on new one.
  • Red handle cap rotates freely, so you can hold the cap in one hand and spin the handle with the other. On new version, the gray cap just screws off and on.
  • The old bit holder completely wraps around the driver. The newer version clips on, so it comes loose from the driver.
  • 32 pc vs 33 pc? Guess that one is a typo on the old version.

I looked through some random photos of other punch/chisel holders on Google images, and found what looks like the same as the Craftsman holder except for the handle. (The 'ring' part is shaped differently on all the others I saw. Proto's comes close, but its width doesn't narrow as much on one side as these do.) It's "Westward", which is Grainger's mediocre house brand resold by Zoro. It must be made in the same random factory in China found by Craftsman for their replacement version.

There is one small benefit I saw over the old Craftsman version - it has a small rubber/plastic/silicone soft tip on the grip screw, so it should be easier on the less-durable Chinese chisel finishes. :) (The still-US-made Proto version it emulates appears to have that feature too, BTW.)

not completely site-wide. hard to see a pattern of stuff it applies to. and the banner on the website doesn't link to terms. #YetAnotherSearsITfail

no knipex is included. at least none of the few remaining things I would ever want. or consider buying.

some combinations of $40 minimum orders that don't have the 40-20 offer get a $10 freecash redeem that doesn't show up in my offers. which is nicer in the respect that you don't have a deadline to use the points before they disappear, even if it's only half the discount...

I peeked in a bunch of categories on kmart.com (skipping the usual grocery-type exclusions) and everything being "sold by Kmart" that I saw had the spend-$40-get-$20 offer listed under it, FWIW.

Here's the offer terms.

"Members get $20 CASHBACK in points when you spend $40 or more at select Kmart stores and on Kmart.com. Points credited to account 24 hours after transaction and are good for 14 days. Max $20 per Member. One time per member. Offer Valid 4/15/18 – 4/28/18. Points credited to member account 24 hours after transaction and good for 14 days. Max 20,000 points per member. Excludes Pharmacy, grocery, alcohol, tobacco, pet products, paper products, cleaning supplies, laundry care, air care, diapers, baby wipes, food storage, garbage bags, healthcare, beauty, stationery, batteries, books & magazines, greeting cards, and party supplies. Offer not valid on any other offer. Minimum spend amount of $40 must be met before taxes and after other discounts, points and FREECASH offers and must be made in a single transaction. By accepting Shop Your Way member benefits and offers, you agree to the Shop Your Way terms and conditions, available at www.shopyourway.com/terms. Members earn points on qualifying purchases, excluding sales taxes and other fees. Extra points are inclusive of, and not in addition to, any base points earned on qualifying purchases. When extra point offers are combined, total points earned will be less than the combined point totals for each individual offer."

Knipex isn't included because it's only ever "sold by Sears" rather than Kmart, though you can buy it through either kmart.com or sears.com - these kinds of offers are only good with the right 'seller', not just the right website (many Sears and Kmart items are cross-listed on each other's website), even though this offer didn't point out "sold by Kmart" specifically in its terms.

I agree, it is a lot more difficult to find things worth ordering with Kmart-specific offers. They do have some decent toys and board games if you have anyone in your life who would be interested in those.

In the past, when I have Kmart specific coupons, I had used them for drinks, candies, underwear, socks, paper towels, toys. Nothing fancy like Knipex, but these regular daily items do add up.

Not sure whether this has already been discussed, but I went into a store today and it appears that all Craftsman Hose Nozzles have been discontinued. The worker told me that he hasn't had any in a year and that warranty exchanges get you a Ray Padua-branded one. They seemed pretty cheap.

I went online when I got home and it looks like most if not all Craftsman hose nozzles are showing as out of stock.

There had been some hope Amazon would want to buy the Kenmore brand, since Amazon started selling Kenmore products a few months ago... looks like that won't be happening. :( News today:

"Sears Holdings Corp. Chief Executive Edward Lampert ... through his hedge fund ESL Investments Inc., which currently owns a controlling stake in the retailer, said in a letter to the Sears board that ESL is willing to buy Sears' home-improvement business ["Sears Home Improvement business of the Sears Home Services division"] and its Parts Direct business, and is willing to submit a proposal to buy Kenmore. Sears has been exploring strategic options for the units for nearly two years, but Mr. Lampert said in his letter that it has been unable to find a buyer."

Also, heads-up for those who still have local Kmarts:

"Wall Street analysts note Lampert omitted Kmart from his material event notification, and is only offering to finance/bail out existing Sears retail locations, which is interpreted as a clear sign Lampert intends to shutter or spinoff Kmart by the third quarter of 2018."

People would probably have more faith if the appliance said Amazon on it than Kenmore.

i purchased a set of new Kenmore washer dryers 2 years ago. It's developed some rust on the body / cover. The paint / enamel layer was either too thin or otherwise wasn't done right. The top load Kenmore washer I bought in early 2000s never had this problem. Maybe I am getting old but do they get cheaper over the years!

Yes, I've heard similar complaints about recent Kenmore grills.

Personally I don't care that much about Kenmore for the sake of Kenmore, but it was supposed to be one of the remaining high-value assets in Sears' "back pocket" to keep the remaining stores alive a while longer, so if nobody but Eddie is willing to buy it, that can't be a good sign for the value it will bring in.

the craftsman rebranded Knipex Cobras are showing in stock again for me. Does anyone know if they are still the same. Showing as 49.99 for the 7 and 10 inch.

http://www.sears.com/craftsman-2-pc-adjustable-pliers-set-7-in/p-00945433000P?rrec=true

One of the few things at Sears that's a decent deal even at full price (assuming they don't pull a stealth design/vendor change), if you've got OOP funds - the two Knipex-branded Cobras in those sizes cost $60 total on Amazon. The Craftsman set has been known to go as low as half-off, though. (Edit: Apparently that's rarer than I realized.)

I see they are in stock in my closest store, and one other about 50 miles away, but none of the other stores in my area; they ship to other stores on about a 1-month delay. So they're definitely not back to full availability yet.

When? I've been watching the Craftsman rebranded Knipex set nonstop for over a year and have never once seen them go on sale for more than $5 off. I agree that they're a good deal even at full price, moreso at $45 when they go on sale. Never seen them go lower than that though.

I've seen them go under $30, though I haven't tracked them in over a year. Be aware that the grip style is unlike any other Knipex grip, not even close to what's on other Knipex. Still great pliers of course.

Sorry, I don't know when exactly I saw that price, but I'm pretty sure it was within the last 6 months - and definitely within the past year. I just keep track of lowest price I've seen on stuff I haven't bought yet that I have an interest in, and I only started that list last June. I didn't find a post in this thread with that particular price (searching for 'cobra' since their official product name is so generic), but there were a few reports of prices in the $30s within the past year that came up. It might have been one of those extra-short sales and I just happened to look in the right hour to see it, didn't realize it was such a rare price.

You should at least see $5 off every time they do a 10% off all Craftsman or 10% off all tools sale, which they've been doing on a pretty frequent basis so far this year. (Almost monthly?)

Yes, those are exactly the only times I've seen it ever go on sale within the past year. It's during the 10% off sales, and it goes exactly 10% off.

I have however seen plenty of people get confused and think the Cobras are on sale when a different Craftsman 2pc pliers set goes on sale, as there is another Craftsman pliers set with the same or similar generic name, but a different model number and picture on the Sears website. This is pretty much what I assume has happened when people say they've seen these go on sale, especially considering I've been watching it during the time others claim to have seen it on sale, and the fact that it's never been posted here or on Slickdeals for anything less than $45.

I could be wrong, but it seems odd, considering how many people are in this thread and looking for Knipex deals, and the fact that these are cheaper than their Knipex brethren even at full price, that they wouldn't have been posted even once when they supposedly went on sale for more than $5 off. Of course, now that I make that observation, they'll go on sale for $25 tomorrow and prove me wrong.

Most recent discount was April 4 - $44.99

The SYW price tracker doesn't catch all the price changes though and often misses things that might only be a big dip for a few days.

You guys weren't kidding about the stuff in these Sears Hometown stores. Took a long trip and hit 4 of them on the way home ( The lady is very very very understanding).

As soon as the $124.99 price comes back, and it's Sears so we know it will, I'm totally going back for this. I was amazed to see it. The one behind it is USA too! For now I got USA Torpedoes of both sizes and wrench style bottle openers in USA to hold me over. Stuff I've never seen anywhere else. I dare say you guys with Hometowns near by get the better end of the stick than having normal Sears. IMG_20180423_112223494.jpg

I'm debating that set too, but it is at my local Ace. Someone said Ace will match, so I might give it a go the next time the price drops.

My Hometown store still had several of the USA made hoses but the website does not reflect that. It seems their inventory count is like +2 when the website says they have none. This has happened on several items I've wanted to buy online and pickup so I can use offers. They also still seem to be carrying the full line of outdoor Craftsman tools (transfer shovel, regular shovel, rakes, etc), unlike my big Sears that only has hoes that are on clearance.

While waiting for the associate to pull all of my orders, I couldnt wait to see if my chisel holder was going to be USA or China, so I checked the shelf. They were all the closed loop style from China. I was a little bummed, but it was free, so hard to argue. But what is that clear acetate handle I see glimmering in my box of pickup goodies...

Yeah I have the USA one too, I've used it once when I needed to hold a chisel in a kind of tight / awkward spot. For those kind of situations it's priceless...

I like the V groove better in the USA as all my chisels are hex shaped, don't know why the chinese was round, probably easier to manufacturer. Still, it's not like the holder takes any stress, it's just a convenience.

That reminds me, I have points expiring today... Time to find something to buy!

Nice, you got the last US one they had. :)

I managed to dig up one similar open-loop chisel holder (all the other brands' chisel holders I could find are closed-loop) on Amazon this weekend, hard to find since it's not marketed as a chisel holder, but its head looks nearly identical to the old US Craftsman design. I do have some Amazon gift card money, though I have other plans for it... hrm. Haven't decided how badly I want this style vs closed-loop.
