First, can any of you tell me hw tall the 13 drawer base would be if you took the wheels off. I've got a 36" tall space under my bench that I'd like to park one of these.

OK, time for a HF rant:

Been looking at tool chests for awhile, saw this come up yesterday and finally decided that it would be a good way to go. I'd looked at the HF chests before and they do look good, so I figured this was as good a time as ever.

Just to make sure, because I've had troubles before, and they're nearly 35 miles away, I decided to call the local HF store this morning and see if they had the chests in stock.

"Hello, can you check please"
"Nope, don't have any, haven't for awhile, no idea when we will."

DAMNITT!!!
This place is ******* me off, this is at least the 3rd time that I've tried to buy something from this store and they've had none in stock. An engine hoist, a hydraulic press, and now tool chests. I've also been there and heard them tell others that they have no stock on other items.
The tool chests weren't sold out, they never had them in the first place.
With the exception of the display models, I'm pretty certain that this store doesn't stock anything bigger than a hammer.

Now WTF good does it do to have a retail store if you have nothing to sell??

I asked the same question in the Email I sent to the customer service department.

Well, you're lucky. I called a few local harbor freights, and none had them in stock except 1 about 50 miles south, drove down there to buy it. and, guess what? They didn't have it.

This was a few years ago, but my pricing would have bee 289.99 then I believe? They gave me another $50 off that and a rain check. Picked it up a few weeks later. I was still pissed.

Why would you still be pissed?

They made a mistake, we all do. The simple fact is they tried to make it right by taking an extra 50 bucks off and you still have the nerve to be pissed? Some customers are more trouble than they are worth.

GUys worst case is you join the inside track club ( ask them if they have a current flyer for the club). The box is $329.00 in the current inside track club flyer . I dont know that you could double coupon but its still a deal at $329.00.

Rick

How long is it on sale for through the insider track? I bought one during the sale and would love to buy another. If I join the club for $29 and buy it for $339, its still better then the $499 it retails for. The insider tracks price is with a coupon already?

thanks

Purpony I am not sure honestly but my Store's have coppies of the current Inside Club Flyers . I would ask them to let me see whats in it before I give them my money for the " club " . That would let you know quick . I have also heard of guys getting them to take the cost of sighning up off their purchase :D. I used to be pretty tight with the Old manager of my local store but then again they were new in town at the time and I was buying ALOT of **** :D.

Because I don't drive a truck every day, as it's 40 miles to work each way, so i had to go though some extra effort to drive my truck to work, then drive another 40 miles past work after work to get the box, to find it wasn't there.

Then I had to do it all over again a later. I was pissed because the person who said they were in stock didn't look, because they were lazy. Sure, $50.00 is $50.00 bucks, but I would have honestly rather have paid 50 bucks more for it, and got it in the first trip, saving me 100 miles, and probably that 50 bucks in fuel.

Why can't i be angry about this?

From an earlier post (during the sale).

I used 4 of the 20% off coupons and bought the set in Aurora, IL

Base roller $272

Top chest $224

2 side 7 drawer units @ $152 each

Total with 8.25 % sales tax was $866

I looked at a lot of non-Snapon non-Matco. (Everything at Sears, Costco, Samsclub, Home Depot, Menards and FarmandFleet)

Closest contenders were FarmandFleet (Waterloo PROMAX), and Menards (Masterforce). Boiled down to build quality (lots of steel) and full-width drawer at top of roller cabinet.

Far superior to all but the top of the line Sears, and no comparison to the thin stainless stuff the others are selling.

I had gotten a rain check for the main roller cabinet during the sale, which was fine by me. I don't have room for it until the new garage is enclosed... they called me yesterday to say that they had one available now and I could come and pick it up. I declined as I wasn't ready for it. They told me to call a few day ahead of when I want it and they would have one ready for me. They told me they don't like to keep them at the store for too long....

remember guys, it costs the store money to cary a huge amount of inventory.....

I would be tempted to buy one (or maybe two) if it was available in black for the sale price, but the only HF in my area (which is still about 90 miles from me) only stocks the red version.

My idea was to actually buy two of them and connect them together with the seven drawer side cabinet in the middle hanging from both chests. I would then put some of my smaller benchtop tools on top of them such as my grinder etc.

How do you get the 20% coupon I receive the 15% ones by email but don't get the 20's.

Stop by any magazine rack and take a look at the car magazines. Every magazine I've looked at, even my Home Machinist, in the last several months has had a HF ad with a 20% coupon.
'Course you'll have to factor in the cost of the magazine..........

They are in the back of Reader's digest, for one, and several of the handyman type magazines.

RJ.

NRA Magazines have them also.

I picked my up today in Michigan, in Clinton Twshp. Had a rain check for the $271.99 (includes 20% off coupon). Had to get a buddy to help unload off my truck. It seems very heavy built. I am happy with it.

I had a raincheck for the 339 price with the 20% off. I was planning on taking the wheels off and putting it under a workbench that I'll build when I get some time, but now I'm thinking about going back and picking up a side cab or the top cab.

Unfortunately I had to unload it by myself. No biggie, but I had to tip it on the side to get the pallet off the bottom. All my buddies seem to have other plans when I need help lifting heavy stuff. But that's another thread :)

Can someone post the outside dimensions of this box with the packing on it? I want to make sure it will fit in my truck or else I'll need to call in a favor and get a buddy with a pickup truck.

Since this thread is still charging forward...

I finished my bench today. The HF cabinet might be hard to recognize. The drawers have been painted black and the rest has been painted a gloss red to match the Craftsman stack next to it.

I also repositioned the two deep drawers to the top of their rows -- which looks a little odd, but works better for my use.

Picked mine up today $299 out the door. Now I just need to sell my craftsman stack so I can buy the top box. FYI, they are also on sale for $299.

Looks great. Did you have to reposition the slides for the change of the wide to narrow drawers?

Thanks.

No, I didn't have to reposition anything -- that's what's cool about the design. The thicker drawers use two slides per side instead of one, and all the sliders are spaced evenly. So you can put them anywhere in the stack.
