I got mine today, I am comfortable paying less than $300 for this box. Does anyone have a ball park on the weight of this? On the box it says 704 lbs! Is it feasible to take this out and put in back into my truck with 3-4 buddies?

I brought two of these boxes home yesterday, on my HF trailer. They were shrinkwrapped together, and the cardboard inside the plywood crate said it weighed 174 kg (382 lbs) net, 212 kg (466 lbs) gross, which would include the pallet and cardboard, but that seems high. Maybe that was for both of them, which would make the boxes about 190 lbs each. I used the HF Engine hoist to remove them from the trailer, since I was alone and didn't want to dent my new treasures. It was like Christmas yesterday. They are about the color of my Mustang only not shiny, and they are almost as tall (39 inches) as my Lotus (43 inches).

A word about the wheels/casters on these.........
I push one around at work (industrial maint), and decided to take the wheel bearings apart to clean them up. Bearings did not have much lube in them at all. Also tapped wheels to install standard grease fittings.

Mine came with grease fittings in the castor.

Must be your monitor. They are the same blood red that my car is.

It could be the texture that is throwing the color off, though these things aren't exactly a deep red. I was surprised when I looked at one today at HF at how textured and light colored the coating is. Too bad they didn't have one in stock...I'll have to wait to pick mine up. $349 - 20% is unreal considering the construction is on par with boxes costing nearly 3 times as much.

i called my local store to see how many they had in stock, and they said 3. I went down after work to pick another one up and they decided to oepn all 3 before I got there... they were all damaged! so needless to say, i got a rain check and have to wait to pick it up. It ***** I drove 30 mins there and ddnt come home with one, but im also glad i didnt get it home and come to find out it was all smashed. On another note, i just finished installing a Proto emblem on my HF box... looks just like an expensive Proto now... hahaha:bounce:

I picked up a second 7 drawer side box today. The KC store had 6 on hand. I still had a rain check for $189 so after the 20% off coupon and tax it came in around $165.

Maybe your store had a few returns and decided to check them all, in case they all had been damaged in shipping.

One of the two boxes that I brought home the other day had some long scratches on one of the drawers. This was not a result of damage in shipping, as the boxes and crate were fine. Must have been damage in the factory. Rather than having to load it back on the trailer and drag it down to the store (30 minutes, $$$ for tolls), risking getting another damaged box, I called their customer service line. I would have to wait 6-8 weeks for them to manufacture a new one, and another couple of weeks for them to deliver it to me. The alternative was that they could search their warehouse to see if there was a 'used' one, probably the remains of another box that had been damaged, but I didn't want to take a chance on that, They might send me something that was slightly damaged/twisted/whatever. I was willing to wait for new.

For the price, I still think it is outstanding quality. No one else has anything close to it.

Has anybody priced the drawers directly from the support line? I would be interested in replacing some of the short drawers with deep one's.

Got them and they are set up. Used a pickup and a trailer to bring them home. The top chest in the bed of the truck and the bottom chest in the trailer. Since the trailer is low to the ground, it was easy to get off without damage (to us or the chest). After we got it unpacked, we got rid of the trailer and backed the pickup to the lower chest. We unpacked the upper and slid it over onto the lower chest. Simple and painless.

Paid $519.98 for the set with sale price and 20% coupons ($330 off retail, $130 off sale price), and the guy ringing me up threw in two tape measures and flashlights.

Here is a link to the 20% coupon from the magazines: Harbor Freight Coupon. Just print it and bring it in. Good until 24 MAR 10.

The coupon might be good until March 24, but orginally the sale on the tool boxes ends on February 25, just 10 days away. I've seen them extend their sales int he past, but I didn't want to take any chances, even though I haven't even broken ground for my new garage yet.

Roger. The current sale ends 25 Feb 10. I should have mentioned that.

I'm sure everybody is sick of this thread. I went out today and got one of the lower cabinets with the 2 shelf side cabinet. Thanks to everyone for sharing. This seems like a very good investment for the money. Bottom roller $279.99, side cabinet $119.99.

I also got this rolling tool cart for $99. Seemed like a really good value. It has roller ball bearing drawers. I figured I could use this for socket sets and impact sockets to work out in the driveway.

Could you post a picture of the two shelf side cabinet with the door open?

Thanks!

Bottom line is it's made in China. I am weening myself of all things manufactured in China. I will buy a $1000 Craftsman first or a burlap bag at the feed store to keep my tools in.:3gears:

I picked up a 7-drawer side cabinet today. Added a small simple base made of 80/20 to add 4 HF casters. This will be my mill cabinet to sit next to the bridgeport to hold the tooling. Pretty nice cab for $159.

Some yutz bought all 3 of the 13-drawer base cabinets yesterday from the Grand Rapids, Michigan store....

Sadly the burlap sack will last you longer than Craftsman's current offerings. From what I have seen $1000 will get you a POS from Sears. It will get you three great roll cabs from HF.

I buy American when I can but will not pay triple for an inferior product.

Probably the truth.... I know Craftsman tools are USA, but not sure about their boxes. I actually own a Husky box because I didn't like the Craftsman comparables...... The HF box looks pretty sweet -

Not a real good pick but you get the idea. There are tabs on the side to adjust the shelves to the desired height.

I spent alot of time in Sears last week and those boxes are made very cheaply.

Since this thread is still charging forward...

I finished my bench today. The HF cabinet might be hard to recognize. The drawers have been painted black and the rest has been painted a gloss red to match the Craftsman stack next to it.

I also repositioned the two deep drawers to the top of their rows -- which looks a little odd, but works better for my use.
So is your box sitting on 2X4's? Looks good.

Thanks, yes -- there are 2x4's front and rear. I was able to saw them down a little to adjust for the ups and downs of the 85-year-old floor.

Thanks for the shot.

I did a rather exhaustive toolbox search a few years ago, and learned that the Craftsman stuff is ****, and not made here. Go into a Sears, and you'll see that almost every toolbox has drawers that are destroyed. I'm sure that they take a beating in the store, but I expect the box to last a loooong time.

I bought a Grizzly top box, and the quality was actually really good. Not Mac or Snap-On, but about 1/5 the price. However, 'd never do business with them again unless I could pick it up at their warehouse. Their "customer service" is useless. Stay away.

I wish I could drop $5,000 on a Mac/Matco/Snap-On box, but this one will have to do.

That doesn't mean they aren't made cheaply. I've always thought Craftsman boxs, aside from the "pro" line are ****. And I have a pair sitting in my garage right now.

He was refering to a blanket comment I made and then edited out. I said all Craftsman boxes are made in China. I shouldn't have said that. As it turns out some of their cheaply made boxes are actually made right here at home. I really just didn't want to argue about it as that is not what this thread is for.
