Too bad there isn't a thread of these fine quality DPs like there is for CM Block grinders.

I know this isn't the first, in fact others have inspired me and I will unapologeticly borrow from them.

I have been collecting bits together for a CM DP build up.

Yesterday a fellow member alerted me to a tools sale and I brought home this DP.

Pieces I have, just waiting to be put to good use.

This one is older, and not as rust-free as the one above. The one above came out of a home wood shop. The machines from wood shops are the 'best looking' I have.

I needed the 150 because the run-out on the KS shows the spindle is bent.

T-man, we do need a dedicated thread for these like you said, there are about 500 independent threads on them but nothing like the grinder thread. I can't believe you have the table lift, any more info on that? I'd love to have a floor model next to my bench model 100, since you have two, you can start the breeding program...:lol_hitti

This is the one I snagged on Craigslist along with a 1/4 HP pre-block grinder. I will start thread when it gets to the top of my projects list. Probably will just clean up the detail bits and give it fresh paint but it will be early next year at best. It looks like it's all there, original except for the Montgomery Ward motor and in pretty good shape. Along with the drill press, the grinder, table stand and vice there was an oil filled pan of misc. stuff. Does anyone have an idea what the threaded/keyed/bearing thing is? The pulley has a 1/2" hole, the mystery item I think is 5/8".....should have gone to the basement for the real caliper.

I already posted pics of this last year, but hey I'll brag some more. Snagged this Craftsman 150 for $50 on CL. Works fine as is, but it's in the corner awaiting some time to open up on my schedule so I can restore it.

Logical, there should be a doughnut looking piece that fits in the column with an offset hole. That shaft would(assuming it's the part we are talking about) go threads down through the doughnut hole and a step pulley would go on the keyed end.

Does anyone have an idea what the threaded/keyed/bearing thing is?

I've been through the 100 and 150 series quite a bit, as well as a couple of Vari-Slo's.....I don't recognize is as a part you'll need for that DP or the attachment.

If I had to guess, that piece is part of one of those modular jackshaft systems Craftsman was into......the kind that use one motor to power multiple tools. The keyed end indicates that a pulley should go on it, and the threaded end should accept some type of chuck. Maybe a lathe attachment?

Good luck with your resto!

I like like the old Craftsman DP's too...mines original as purchased from the original owner...
I have a nice early 70's commercial one too. I bought it new.

I just gave away a table top (shortie) version my Dad bought in the 60's. It was in great shape, just didn't have a spare table to bolt it to. I have a much less cool delta floorstander that serves me well.

I wondered about that possibility but I don't see anything inside that it would mount to and haven't ever seen how they are supposed to mount.

The bearings for the multispeed pulley are built into the pulley, not the shaft. Don't know what that is for.

Figured this thread needed a bump and hopefully this thread can turn into a block grinder thread at least in terms of the frequent posts! I just picked up this craftsman King seeley unit from member Oregon rock crusher! I am super excited to fix a few things and put it to use! Someday it will get a full tear down resto but for now I will be cleaning up the surface rust, new cord, degreasing and getting a new handle and light... If someone has either a new handle or a light, either craftsman or other cool light, please let me know! It also has a cool explosion resistant motor on the back. I believe this is a 150 model but am not sure?

holy hell that poor machine...that lamp and handle are atrocious. I believe that is a model 100. Good luck with the refurb I'm glad you're bringing it back to life

Here is my 150 and my model 80 I'm probably getting rid of

Uh oh, looks like we're headed for another one of Torqueman's fine threads. Please enclose or sticky if you can a link to jtbinvalrico's restoration. I tend to use this as a "Bible" if you will. I've done 5, now I just have to find the pics...:headscrat

It looks rougher than it really is[emoji38] lots of surface rust from sitting but the table is nice and does not show signs of abuse, just signs of inactivity! I will check out the threads you guys pointed out! Anybody have an extra 3 point handle for it ?

Since it appears that the original hub is still there, perhaps you could make your own handles. The following is from FrankLee's thread. It might work for you.

Regarding feed handles... it's not too difficult to make them yourself for about $20.

  • stubby screwdriver handles (you could also use a traditional black round knob) - eBay
  • 1/2" stainless steel tubing - Amazon
  • 3/8" threaded rod - Home Depot
  • 3/8" stainless steel nuts - Home Depot

I saw that but I am kind of a purist when it comes to these machines... I do however think it is sweet and really smart!

I'm guessing from the photos that the reason for welding the handles was because the threads broke off in the hub . . . (on all 3?!). Plus I doubt after the welding you could even save the hub, I am sure it's warped all to hell. Look for a donor machine - it will be cheaper than buying the hub and handles.

There is a hub on eBay for $45 but I don't know if that's to much ? The handles seem more expensive so I will keep an eye out for a parts machine/ better one to use... I may clean this one up a bit and remove the crappy mods until I figure out what I want to do with it !

The handles are welded to a washer and the washer is bolted to the aluminum hub. The threads are broke off in the hub, plus there are bolt holes in it from the handle rig. Someone was cranking on it hard but as long as the castings are not damaged, some new bearings should fix any wear.

Very correct! Someone really did a number on it! Can't believe the idiot who did that was allowed around tools...

I did have time to degrease and remove the ugly light and switch this weekend! I was very surprised to see how much original paint was left! Now I am looking for a quill handle hub and a correct lower rpm motor !
