Crazy day today. Picked up this Reed 106 and this early Wilton 825 (2.5" jaw). Both for $220.

Then got a call from vermont buddy who has a 165# Hay Budden anvil and a 6" Wilton bullet ($600).

Last call came from a NH picker who bought 2 Reed 206Rs and offered them to me at $200 each. Waiting on better pics.

Its quiet for weeks then WHAM! NUTS I TELL YOU!!

Here's my little offering for today.

I picked this up at an estate sale this morning. I know that I've seen something like this in this thread somewhere, but I can't find it and don't know the brand.

It's an early bolt thru the bench type of swiveler.
3" jaws
7-8 lbs
broken off horn in back
triangular slide
cast-in main nut
all mounting parts included

At another sale this morning, I lucked into something vise related that I'd never seen before. I had originally found 6 of them buried in the back of a cabinet under some trash, but when I went to check out of the sale they said that they wouldn't sell them because "they go to the vise that is already sold". First, the the cabinet wasn't anywhere near where the vise was. Second, the vise sold for $20 because it was a small 3" craftsman import. Third, the flipper who bought the vise would only have thrown them out because he wouldn't know what the were.

I finally convinced them that the vise only needed 1 pair, and that they could sell me the other 2 pairs for $8 (they originally wanted $12 for all 3 pairs until they changed their minds about selling them).

Grip-All vise jaw adaptors. :bounce:

These sit on top of the vises jaws (like the copper covers) but the round bit allows the adapter to swivel. This lets you hold odd shaped pieces in your vise. I've never used them, so I can't say how well they work. :dunno:

I reckon you only really need 1 per vice, not a pair. I bet by the time you had a pair at maximum angle whatever you were trying to hold would pop out.

Jake: i can't remember who makes (made) those triangle slide vises, but it looks European. any markings on it? nice find.

also those jaw covers are a good find. since they were nowhere near a vise would you have known that they were jaw covers if they didn't have those awesome graphics on them?

Wabbit - I think that most of the time you would be correct. But I can see where at times the pair would be needed, if only because of the "V" notches.

Drives - No marks on the vise. And no, I didn't recognize the jaw covers at first. It was the graphic that clicked on the lightbulb in my head and made me dig for the others.

VA: stirring the pot again i see and looks like an interesting vise. that one looks like it should join the chain gang or do you already own one or two of them?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't have one of those Drive, and at those prices, I never will.---I almost got to have it but not quite.---I get the HEBEJEBES when I venture up into that got to have it range.---I'll just have to settle for a good show.

Jake, the Grand Vise Master has a triangular slide similar to yours, but is configured differently than yours on the whole.

I like those jaws.---Instant swivel jaw.---Makes a nice upgrade.

Thanks VA. I seem to remember at least one or two other triangle slides being posted. I think there was one just a month or two ago. But, of course, in this thread that could be a thousand posts to search in that time.

Hey guy's, does anyone have a Parker # 439 with the two 7/16 handles. I want to make a couple original handles that are missing on this Parker # 439. I just want to see what they looked like and get a length. I am thinking they are 4-1/2 inch long and have the flat screw head un-screwing ends like my picture shows. The one that sold on e-bay a week ago did not have handles either.Thanks.

Dude, please buy a gigantic Bridgeport with a complete tooling package (else an extremely expensive CNC mill) and repost those images once you've squared up those corners. Sheeesh! Friggin' amateurs! :dunno:

Kevin, on my 439 I rebuilt both my handles and modeled them after the abused originals. They were round with flat tops and fit into the depression on the head of the clamp. I'll look for pics.

Joe: i'm not sure if you put the size or the original swivel handles in the post you put on this thread, but i know you put up a post on the 101 thread too so i'll check and see if i can find the post # and edit it onto this post.

Kevin: cool looking vise and is it yours? Get also has a 439 and a couple other members do too so we should be able to find you some originals. i thought one of them had the Parker wrench on theirs. i do like that style vise and might be the only Parker i'd buy. not that they are not great vises, but i just haven't got the access to very many and they are usually beat to **** the ones i do so until i get some of your skills i'll leave them for the rest of you. maybe VA with his magic touch at finding the 439 can find all the members that have posted them.

Anyone know anything about what I have here? There's no name on it, I really have no idea of what I have with this one.

It's a Vanvil!

Generally turn of the century stuff, up to about late 20's 03r 30's. That one is probably before the turn... Nice find if the price was right.

T4: I've seen a ton of those broken so don't use it like an actual anvil. yours is one of the coolest looking ones I've seen though and looks like it's all there including a spring I've only seen on a Cole anvil vise. looks like late 1800's with that Patent date on the side. nice find and even if you don't use it i'm betting it would look awesome cleaned up and put on a shelf.

Joe: i only found your Parker 26x swivel pins so hopefully you can find your information or another member with a Parker 439 with original pins can help Kevin. BTW you are allowed to post anvil pictures if you buy them with your vises. did you buy or trade for a few this week or are they all this weekend?

Those are highly dangerous to use, and should be disposed of to a facility equipped to deal with them! PM me for a shipping address for such a facility! ;)

I'm afraid of dropping it on my toes!

seeing how your in detroit and just got it. is this the one you grabbed

Yep, that's it.

Shadow: the 20 is a part # because I'm about 99% sure the Prentiss #20 are swivel jaw and 4 inch wide. nice find and i'm sure you know you found a keeper or at the worst good trading material.

Thanks, first rear swivel jaw I've gotten. Pin is stuck, I'm sure I'll figure it out though.

Va you nailed it, Thanks. It looks like the top clamp is peened on at 4-1/4 long and the bottom handle should have the screwed in caps like a few I have made before, curious to see what Joe's pictures look like, Joe's post did not show handles. The swivel base I believe has the slotted end caps.Gotta plan now. Again thanks VA.

Drives, not my vise, helping on the owners restoration, he did a fine job just needs a couple handles.

Zoomie: nice family shot of your small vises and anvils. just curious if you might know what the little aluminum anvils were made for. do you know?

Oldie and Va: give us a report on what the little 9.99 Prentiss ends up selling for if you have time to watch. i'm betting more than a Benjamin or maybe 2 or more? how much is that per pound for a 10 pound vise for all those that still try to buy old vises by the pound?

Vintage: I have heard that about 200-250 is where the guys are putting their vises in their shop or even their house ovens to bake on the paint nicely. since you have options to go quite a bit higher you might want to check with some of the local paint and powder coating shops or PM a few members here in that business. CudaChick has a great shop in Tennessee for powder coating and she might help you.

good luck

They are actually "cast bronze", one is a "Fisher Norris", from the Fisher Norris museum and the other is from "The Blacksmith Barn", that goes by the name "Matchless Antiques" on eBay, the owner is a friend of mine.

By the way, those little Prentiss's (Prenti? LOL!) are more like 2lbs, nowhere near 10lbs, and I think the last one sold in the $450 range, if I remember correctly...

Drives,

One of the same size and style sold a number of months ago for about $175.00. I was watching it because I have one of the same style.

Just a thought on the "missing" rear mounting tab/hole...

If it was broken off, they did a helluva job smoothing out the break...

The "place" where it "should" be, is really factory smooth...

Maybe these 2"'ers were only two hole mounters, or after, the original mini-clampers were found to need three mounts for stability, the third tab/hole was added in a later version...HMMM???

As others have said---"Very Mysterioso"...:headscrat:wtf:

(Shiftless---You've been outbid...I wonder who???...HMMM...)
