So you went to Sears so you wouldn’t have to go to Sears?

No. I went to Sears so they wouldn't have a ship to store debacle. I wanted them to go directly to my house, and have free shipping to my house.

The last couple times I ordered ship to store for specialty tools drop shipped from the vendor to Sears there were problems. One soft tipped hammer they never notified me for store pickup, and put it out on the shelf and sold it. Another time for hose clamp tools it went to the store, but sat in the back room for a month and a half before anyone could find it, another time they lost the tool, dead blow hammer. All three times I had to go back and forth with ShopYourWay for refunds and points.

So I wanted to have it go directly from the vendor to me, to cut out the local Sears Store "middle man". Because the "middle man" at my store has become very incompetent lately.

Oh, ouch, they are extra-incompetent in your Sears back room, I guess. Mine has never mishandled my pickup orders like that.

I like ship to store since it seems to guarantee the item comes well-packed from a Sears warehouse or the manufacturer... with ship-to-home, it can either come from a warehouse, the manufacturer, or another random local store using makeshift packing.

Delivery came today... Funny enough I ordered this truck toolbox:

https://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00965119000P

You would think, hey for some extra protection let's put the pliers in the truck box? Right? Nope... Instead they put the pliers in the cardboard box, the truck box on top of them, then sealed the box. No extra padding.. *rolleyes*

Pliers are indeed USA, they came in a non-labeled white cardboard box, not any sort of retail packaging. They look like they were just made as the metal has a nice light coating of oil all over it. Not something you would think was sitting in a warehouse for years.

I'm guessing they are just purchasing these in certain quantities, or just waiting on whatever the manufacturer delivers. I know these are the same as Mac & SK and who knows who else so I'm sure there is some lead time between shipments.

Yeah I should have ordered 2, now that I played around with mine for a bit I realize how nice and handy it will be... I'm sure they will pop-up for sale again...

Picked my pair up tonight and had the same packaging and appearance. They seem nice, and I think if the Hometown store still has a pair floating around, might pick them up. They said it came off the truck with no product information, and gave it a $18 price sticker. Maybe I can haggle them down, it is in Amish country

Also had an order they could not find. I did get a $5 coupon for the wait, which they no longer print on their price sign stock, but just plain copy paper. After a while, I found the warehouse guy and they just offered to refund my money, which was all in the form of points. All found out I apparently ordered more than one of those dang Dickies mug organizers :wtf:

I believe I heard some time back that when stores hand out the $5 pickup-wait coupon on copy-paper, it's because they xeroxed some of the coupons so that they won't get in trouble for going past 5 minutes as often. When they request to generate a new printout on the right paper, the manager knows they've been slacking. ;)

The folks at my Sears almost never hand out those $5 coupons. When the clock on the customer lobby board hits 4:50+ it magically stops and says delivered, even though I’m still waiting for several more minutes before anyone appears. Sometimes they’ll even pop their head in to ask what I ordered, then disappear...all while the clock is stopped. I’d bet they actually deliver over 5:00 more often than under.

Sears gonna Sears!

More closings have been trickling out. Business Insider's list of the 24 mid-July closings (22 Sears, 2 Kmart) announced/discovered in mid-April has now, unfortunately, been updated with 16 additional later closings (9 Sears, 7 Kmart) lumped into the same list as the ones from last month. I've edited out the ones that were in last month's list of 24 (as quoted above), and added notes and sources about the rest.

Sears

  1. Sears Town Mall, 3550 S Washington Ave, Titusville, Florida - new news this week, liquidation schedule unclear, the only article about it so far just says "closing next month" (June) which would be a deviation from the usual liquidation timeframes - https://www.floridatoday.com/story/news/2018/05/15/sears-closing-its-titusville-store/610052002/
  2. North Point Mall, 6000 North Point Cir, Alpharetta, Georgia - last-minute addition to the previous batch of closures that was missed at the time, not reported until May 3 and I didn't find out about it till today, on an April 27 to July 8 liquidation schedule - http://www.tonetoatl.com/2018/05/Sears-Closing-Store-At-North-Point-Mall-Alpharetta.html
  3. Quincy Mall, 3400 Quincy Mall, Quincy, Illinois - new news this week, May 25 to mid Aug liquidation schedule - http://www.whig.com/20180517/sears-closing-quincy-store-third-mall-anchor-to-close-since-2015
  4. Towne Mall, 1704 N Towne Dr, Elizabethtown, Kentucky - new news this week, May 25 to late July or early Aug liquidation schedule - http://www.thenewsenterprise.com/ne...cle_870b3b68-b1ca-53a6-ba81-3c2c62f1ec48.html
  5. Summit Park Mall, 6929 Williams Rd, Niagara Falls, New York - already posted, on a May 18 to early Aug liquidation schedule
  6. Johnstown Galleria, 540 Galleria Drive, Johnstown, Pennsylvania - already posted, on a May 18 to early Aug liquidation schedule
  7. York Galleria, 2899 Whiteford Rd., York, Pennsylvania - already posted, on a May 18 to early Aug liquidation schedule
  8. Citadel Mall, 2068 Sam Wittenberg Blvd., Charleston, South Carolina - already posted, on a May 18 to early Aug liquidation schedule
  9. Danville Mall, 325 Piedmont Dr, Danville, Virginia - already posted, on a May 18 to early Aug liquidation schedule

Kmart

  1. 74-5456 Kamakaeha Ave, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii - new news this week, May 17 to early Aug liquidation schedule - http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2018/05/14/hawaii-news/kailua-kona-kmart-to-close-in-august/
  2. 1813 Caldwell Blvd., Nampa, Idaho - new news this week, May 17 to early Aug liquidation schedule - https://www.idahopress.com/news/loc...cle_938d740e-08ff-5228-b161-fc7743e19ba6.html
  3. 180 Broadway, Elmwood Park, New Jersey - new news this week, May ~17 to late July liquidation schedule - https://www.northjersey.com/story/n...ark-nj-kmart-closing-shoprite-move/616976002/
  4. 970 Easton Ave #7235, Somerset, New Jersey - new news last week, May 10 to late July liquidation schedule - https://www.tapinto.net/towns/frank...anklin-township-kmart-set-to-close-liquidatio
  5. 321 Stadium Plaza, Jersey City, New Jersey - new news this week, May ~17 to late July liquidation schedule - https://www.northjersey.com/story/n...ark-nj-kmart-closing-shoprite-move/616976002/
  6. 19 Kocher Drive, Bennington, Vermont - new news this week, May 17 to early Aug liquidation schedule - http://www.benningtonbanner.com/stories/kmart-to-close-bennington-square-store,539301
  7. 750 N 3rd St, Laramie, Wyoming - new news this week, May ~17 to early Aug liquidation schedule - http://www.laramieboomerang.com/new...cle_f386119e-58c5-11e8-9c1c-dfac0dd6e53d.html

Okay, all caught up on known closures again, for now. These are getting harder and harder to keep up with...

New Sears store closing announcements this week:

  1. Dover Mall, 1000 Dover Mall, Dover, Delaware - May 18 to early Aug liquidation schedule - https://delawarestatenews.net/business/dover-mall-sears-closing-in-august/
  2. Prien Lake Mall, 640 W Prien Lake Rd, Lake Charles, Louisiana - May 25 to mid-Aug liquidation schedule - http://www.kplctv.com/story/3825167...ore-sears-auto-center-in-lake-charles-closing
  3. Tri-County Mall, 11700 Princeton Pike, Cincinnati, Ohio - no news articles about this one yet, but a reliable source on Twitter says it's confirmed; liquidation probably started May 18, to early Aug - https://twitter.com/mitchnolen/status/998994793135984640

Stores not officially liquidating yet, but closing is inevitable sooner rather than later, since their malls have recently announced redevelopment plans that don't include Sears:

  1. Jefferson Mall, 4801 Outer Loop, Louisville, Kentucky - closure TBA - https://www.businesswire.com/news/h...-Announces-New-Entertainment-Anchor-Jefferson - supposedly when the mall owner acquired the Sears building recently, they added a clause that allows them to pay Sears $300k to vacate the premises whenever the mall is ready to start construction
  2. Cape Cod Mall, 769 Iyannough Rd, Hyannis, Massachusetts - closure TBA - http://www.capecodtimes.com/news/20180404/cape-cod-mall-plans-to-redevelop-sears-space
  3. Northshore Mall, 210 Andover St, Peabody, Massachusetts - closure TBA - http://www.salemnews.com/news/local...cle_0f175e31-f169-5a9e-9e59-6966ad185086.html
  4. Broadway Square Mall, 4601 S Broadway Ave, Tyler, Texas - closure TBA - https://tylerpaper.com/sears-at-mal...cle_13c4787f-ab95-5b45-99df-f7a50763d350.html , https://tylerpaper.com/news/local/b...cle_9c1d93ba-5e96-11e8-a52a-c7a6ede0d8f7.html - Sears is denying they will be forced out in this location, but I don't know how they can make it work, they'd probably have to pack everything up and move to a different building in the mall, and that doesn't seem very likely with the amount of work that would be involved

And one Kmart facing future threats:
  1. Kmart - Town and Country Shopping Center, Fairfax neighborhood, 6310 W 3rd St (Third Street), Los Angeles, California - closure TBA - https://la.curbed.com/2018/5/15/17356382/fairfax-thrd-street-shopping-center-mixed-use - it's in a shopping center with a Whole Foods, that's trying to go more upscale, so people doubt they want Kmart hanging around post-renovation but it hasn't officially been said yet... edit: found confirmation that their plans definitely don't include Kmart, and that location is only on a month-to-month lease at this point, so the property owner can definitely kick them out at any time: https://www.larchmontbuzz.com/featu...presented-to-mid-city-west-community-council/

What ever happened to those Sears locations they auctioned off? Has their fate been determined?

It was a multi-phase process over the course of the last couple months. All 16 of the auction listings disappeared from the real estate auction website without a trace, some time in the last few days. I have not yet seen any word on what the results were.

Also note that they kept moving the conclusion dates around at various points in May, and last I saw it was set to finish on May 31, so they have disappeared about a week ahead of the most recent schedule. Very mysterious.

I'm probably going to get this with my $10 off $25+ that expires today. I don't really need another extension cord right now, but it is longer and thicker-gauge than the ones I have so it will probably be good to have eventually, and it's a better price for this length/gauge than you can find anywhere else even before any offers/points. Other stuff I want around this price point isn't on sale currently.

Dura Power 50ft. 12/3 Locking Plug Extension Cord (yellow)
http://www.sears.com/dura-power-50ft-12-3-locking-plug-extension/p-03418960000P
$47.99 regular price, $26.67 online sale (45% off), in stock locally in at least some stores

 I'm a lot more likely to need the extension cord, but that is a nice deal for someone! Regular price $44.99; not in stock locally at least around here, but can be shipped to store.

I also saw a nice Channellock oil filter / PVC pipe pliers for $25.00 even, but it couldn't be shipped to store. Another good option for someone who doesn't mind dealing with the in-store kiosk to get it shipped free.

Bought my extension cord in-store with online price match. Didn't get anything very exciting in the offer printouts - another $7 off $35 (had one last week that I didn't manage to use), and an $8 off $45.

They're still in the middle of rearranging my store's tool department. Apparently the stores doing this reorganizing currently were supposed to be about done by now, but they're all less than half done because they don't have enough hours available to allocate to employees to get that done on top of the normal things they have to do.

Oh, and I guess the $0.99 keychains are gone for good, at least at my store... the box they used to have of them at the tools register was gone last week, and this week it's been replaced by a box of generic $0.99 carpenter's pencils instead. :(

If anyone's in the market for some socks/underwear, SD noticed you can combine two overlapping deals on Kmart.com, today (and yesterday) only:

Buy $20+ OOP of Hanes products online, get $20 back in points. Ends tonight, Sat 5/26. Points last for 7 days once received.

Buy $50+ OOP of almost* anything sold by Kmart online (or in store, but then it doesn't stack), get $25 back in points. Started yesterday 5/25, ends next Sat 6/2. Points last for 30 days once received.

So if you place an order for $50+ OOP which includes at least $20 of Hanes stuff, you end up with about $46 back in points ($20 + $25 + the usual tiny amounts of points based on your total). You'll only have 7 days to spend some of the points you receive, but they can all be spent at Sears, not limited to Kmart. Also, this would be a big enough order that you should be able to get it shipped to home for free, no local Kmart needed.

( * "Excludes pharmacy, grocery, alcohol, tobacco, pet products, paper products, cleaning supplies, laundry care, air care, diapers, baby wipes, food storage, garbage bags, healthcare, beauty, stationery, batteries, books & magazines, greeting cards, and party supplies." )

Remember the 100% back in points deals Sears has done on a few specific items recently, where you get the points back over the next 6 or 12 months in monthly payouts? Well, now there's this... weekly payouts. Much harder to not let any go to waste.

" Get it all back in a year! 100% CASHBACK in points over 52 weeks.
Expires 5/28/2018
Members get 100% CASHBACK in points total over 52 weeks with purchase of a qualifying Washer or Dryer from 5/26–5/28. 1.9% in points awarded weekly on Sundays beginning 6/3/18. Points valid 7 days. 1 per member. Purchase requirement before taxes and after other discounts and must be made in a single transaction. By accepting Shop Your Way member benefits and offers, you agree to the Shop Your Way terms and conditions, available at www.shopyourway.com/terms. Members earn points on qualifying purchases, excluding sales taxes and other fees. Extra points are inclusive of, and not in addition to, any base points earned on qualifying purchases. When extra point offers are combined, total points earned will be less than the combined point totals for each individual offer. "

Apparently it can be done on both one washer and one dryer, if desired.

I just found this absolutely terrible deal. :wtf: This might be a record for the most-inflated price on an item actually sold by Sears (some of the foreign third-party 'marketplace' sellers list some outrageous made-up 'regular' prices). Looks like it's not carried in local stores, would have to be shipped; hopefully nobody's falling for it.

Stalwart LED Worklight with Magnet Back - Red/Black
http://www.sears.com/stalwart-led-worklight-with-magnet-back-red-black/p-00948707000P
$22.99 supposed regular price, $10.09 supposed sale

It is clearly a clone/rebrand of this popular Harbor Freight item:

27 LED Portable Worklight/Flashlight
https://www.harborfreight.com/27-led-portable-worklightflashlight-69567.html
$3.99 regular price, and there's always coupons available to get one free with any purchase
(meaning you can get it and another item for as little as ~$1 total, which is like spending ~$0.50 each - making the $10 Sears price about 20x higher... even if you're just spending points, what a waste of points!)

Here's a decent deal. I got both sizes of the 'Sidewinder' tape measures last year, and 'paid' (with points/offers) $15 for the 25ft one and $8 for the 16ft one. The 16ft one is currently $11, but the 25ft one is currently down to $13 (maybe not the lowest ever, I didn't keep track after I got mine). It is bulkier than a traditional tape measure of the same length, but nice for measuring horizontal surfaces without the case falling over after you let go of it. I recommend buying in-store if possible so you can try out the auto-lock/retraction mechanism, some of them work better than others.

Craftsman Sidewinder 25' Tape Measure
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-sidewinder-25'-tape-measure/p-00952332000P

FWIW, it's available for in-store pickup for me.

That may be the light that the HF vendor cloned - the Stalwart is a similar-appearing but much better quality light. If you put them side by side, the Stalwart is noticeably brighter. I'd rather have the Stalwart than the Hf, but even at a $10 price it's hard to beat free. Two or three of the HFs work as well as one Stalwart, if space is available.

Interesting, thanks for the hands-on report.

Our local Sears is officially as dead as their site. Looks strange with no cars in the parking lot, and an empty shell of a building.

Heard they recycled all the shelving and fixtures in the thing... would have been a good deal for someone.

Funny, my store is doing the opposite. They have expanded the Home Improvement section, taking some of the Appliance section. Now they have this giant wall of hammers, they are adding more tool boxes. They guy at the desk told me that a corporate guy was in a couple weeks ago and said that they need more inventory....so idk. Maybe my store is an anomaly, while I was trying to exchange a tool, there were 5 other people needing help or waiting to check out.

$19.99 regularly, $12.99 sale

That tape is $12.99 at my closest Hometown store and $14.99 at my closest Sears store. Both are listed as Online Only prices.

Sears gonna Sears.

How odd. Yes, when I change the order method from ship-to-home to pickup-in-store (at my nearest corporate store), it changes the price to $14.99 for me too. What kind of :wtf: would charge less for something they have to ship, lol. But I bet if you go in a store and ask them to price match the website, they'll just look at the first price that shows up by default when they first go to that item's page (or that you show them on your phone, if you don't get one of the cashiers who insists on looking it up on the kiosk themselves instead of your phone), which will probably be the ship-to-home price like it was for me.

Interesting, thanks for the hands-on report.

The HF one's get sticky as hell, can't stand to touch it. And the LED light is terrible. Typical Chinese knock off quality. I've got like 5 of them that I got for free. They were over-priced...

They weren't worth the gas to go get them.

If anyone's in the market for some socks/underwear, SD noticed you can combine two overlapping deals on Kmart.com, today (and yesterday) only:
Thanks for posting this.
I was not going to do the 20/20 deal, but this one I did last night.
I would have never tried to stack both deals.
Got some Hanes X-Temp stuff to try out.

I like the x-temp boxers and shirts. I got some packs of regular Hanes boxers at Kmart last holidays, and those were attrotious. Elastic broke down very quickly

"Last holidays" as in 6 months ago? That is disappointing! I expect better from Hanes, even the 'basic models'.

So we got another $5 off $10 today on email. Any thoughts what is good to buy? What I really need now is a brass hammer, which Sears do not have. Got to go to Lowes or Home Depot tomorrow and pay OOP. I am so spoiled by Sears :lol_hitti

Have a good one
