finally starting to make some progress on the garage so time to start my thread. we bought our first home in january, it was built in 41 and the garage in '66. we are the second owners. we have been working mostly on the house removing wallpaper and painting. the house doesnt really need much work as it was built well and taken care of. just needs a little updating. on to the garage and pics.

the plan. the opening in the bench is for my kra2411
MUDf0l.jpg

the open shelves are for stereo and speakers. the cabinet on the right will house the air compressor and floor jack and some other various things. the enclosed cabinets will be set up like this for small parts and hardware storage.

and where i was at when i came in last night. did most of the work sat. and sun. but finished framing the right window last night after work.

burried a 2" conduit from the house to the garage, just need to get a core bit and hammer drill from my uncle to run the LB into the house foundation to tie in to the main panel for the service panel in the garage. lights, and 2 outlets that will be running the mini fridge and stereo will be running off of the origional 110 circuit from the house, and the air compressor and a couple circuits of 20A 110 will run from the new service panel. left the lights where they where due to the wiring from the house. they are on relays.

Got 3 sheets up last night after everyone went to bed. Had kind of a lazy day yesterday so didn't get much done. I've got one more sheet on hand that will go up today. Then working on framing up the bench until I can get to menards on Thursday.

A little more progress tonight after work. Planning on cutting the cross members for the bench tomorrow and having it framed up.

Thanks. Got the bench mostly framed up today. Ran out of screws so going to town tomorrow for my plywood and screws.

And thinking about making a hidden compartment over the fridge under the bench top since I have to splice the 8' sheets anyway.

Just a hidden box within the 2x6 framing. The plywood for the bench top will eventually hinge up to access it. Not sure what all will be going in it just yet. Seemed like a good idea. Plywood sheets are 8' so I will have a 2x2' piece on the end anyway

Neighbor came over and helped me run the sheets of 3/4 through the table saw. Got the tops on both the bench in the garage and the one I have in the basement. Also moved the kobalt tops to the basement as well.

Bought a radial arm saw from the neighbor

I'll be building a different stand for it and probably a larger table once I get it situated

Looks great so far. You've done more so far then I have in a year. The secret compartment is a good idea. I know a guy who has one above his built in fridge in his house to keep a small safe. You could also use it to keep your extra stash of play money the boss doesn't know about. Or the good rum until your friends find it.

Your windows make me think I need some skylights in my garage. I only have one window and it opens to the tenant's backyard so I hardly use it. Are you going to flush mount the lights between the trusses if they fit? How many do you have and what's the coverage like?

I have 6 lights, the coverage is pretty good, I would like to have the second row be more towards the front of the garage but the doors, track and openers would interfere. If I had 2 more lights I would flush mount them in the rafters. But will probably just screw them straight to the ceiling and trim them for appearance until led prices come down

also current plan as im working on it and looking how its coming together is to omit the floor cabinet around the air compressor, my floor jack is longer than i thought it was. will just do an overhead cabinet and maybe a wall mounted shelf over the floor jack.

Your garage looks great, and you seem to have a good plan of attack to get it where you want it. keep up the good work.

Register your Radial Arm Saw here and have them send you the the update kit. I did mine and they sent me the new guards and hardware along with a new table for free.

You might think about a metal top for the work bench, looks good though. You could put a front on it with diamond plate with doors. If you do a lot of work on the bike a lift would be nice, cutting a pit for it to fit in works really good, not in your way when not in use. I did that, look to the left for a picture.

Was going to have an ss top bent up for it in a few years once the rest of the garage is done, I had the plans for the afab lift table but seemed to have lost it, was going to put it in a pit and make the top out of 2-3" flat stock to double as a welding table.

Had the air compressor fired up a couple weeks ago. Po must have messed with the switch when he was having problems with it. It went over 140 psi and blew the aftercooler gasket. Waiting for those now, first order they where discontinued, second one they are waiting for more stock. Got my drill press from dads yesterday. Will probably restore it over the winter, I'll try to get a better pic of it tonight after work.

Got my riser built for the mini fridge, gets it up off the floor and fills the gaps.
OU0aa2.jpg
Finished my workbench compartment with a 3/4 osb bottom, and spaced it out another1.25 inches to be flush with the bottom of the 2x6.
dcenxt.jpg
Either the wall or the bench had a slight now to it but I ended up with a slight gap at the back so I just ended up using a piano hinge for the lid. Just need some cabinet latches to help hold it down

Got my aftercooler gaskets in last night for the big compressor and got it on, and pressure switch adjusted right. Finally have a compressor capable of running my so impact long enough to take a whole 5-8 lug tire off. Been waiting for this day since I moved out of my parents. Had this compressor for 3 years, she finally works.

Got the grinder done.
fcfrln.jpg

Started to shorten the cord on the drill press to get rid of a bad spot, heard the insulation cracking and decided to replace the cord... And
OjbvLA.jpg

That escalated quickly.

Hoping to have it cleaned, painted and back together by the end of the weekend.

The drill pressed turned out great. However I may be biased towards that color. My truck goes in for paint the end of January and that cement gray is the color I decided to go with.

All that is left with the dp is the plug and handles. Need to pick up some bar stock to thread for dad so I can have the originals back for this one. And get a link belt.

The weather is starting to get nicer and the cars are all fixed so I finally have the time and motivation to get work on the garage going again. Got some more outlet boxes installed and ran most of the wire today. Just need to tie in the last box and run to the sub panel. Have the rest of the insulation now and planning on picking up enough osb to finish the walls some time this week.
ekA2IB.jpg
Forgot to put an outlet up high in the wall for the stereo so figured this would work. Also my new bluepoint underhood light has a nice storage spot that also comes in very handy under the shelf.
mh7n3X.jpg
The one up top will be for a cord reel at some point. Had to build the wall out some to mount the osb to between the doors to hide some ugly spacing for the door mounts

Anyone know where I can find some updated switches for these? Have 2 doubles in the garage and 2 singles in the house. One works the garage lights and the other is a light pole at the end of the driveway.

Operates two of these
