I'm 25 and spent almost two years looking for a house on at least an acre of land with a decent sized shop. I finally found one that suited my needs and pulled the trigger. After spending 2 months trying to close on the property, it finally happened and I couldn't be happier.

I'm sure it will be slow progress but I plan on sealing and insulating the building along with taking down all of the shelves and work benches the previous owner put up.

Re: New here, first time home owner and shop owner.

First thing I did was move in the tools I absolutely needed at the time and a few tool boxes. 8cfdbc040fd6e63f1e16aee0b76b364e.jpg

Then I moved in my 4wheeler and some of my junk for cars and trucks that I own and work on 2b77c57d4d7d426b262b0578a833e676.jpg

Re: New here, first time home owner and shop owner.

We went to Boggs and boulders for their New Years ride and ended up breaking an axle on my truck, destroying a wheel bearing and locking hub, and the spindle that it all goes on.

Here are some pictures from our trip

I came home and moved the truck in and went to work fixing the front axleb8960429487c15ab52d49c1553df2009.jpgf7c9b80594eefca31c7c8af5579bb0a8.jpg

I moved my 4wheeler and truck in to see what kind of room I would have. It was very tight in that half of the shop.

Re: New here, first time home owner and shop owner.

So I went out today and did some maintenance on my 4wheeler.
4e2f24928118f9b7e77898c0f35d28cb.jpg

Then started cleaning and re-organizing and taking down some shelves that weren't needed. 283ac5c954b861ce046f8860d8da0573.jpg
As you can see the old furniture from my house is currently being stored in my shop. Waiting on my grandmas house to be finished so she can have all the old furniture. I'm so glad to be able to use both work benches and have almost the whole floor back though.

Any recommendations on a floor coating that will be resistant to welding, grinding, cutting, and oil?

Headed out to pick up my new (to me) metal work bench and tig set up.
I believe the welds will be a lot more aesthetically appealing on these with the tig. eab4bbe91329a66201b1fd04908fc4d4.jpgd98014b266282f1ae628731eb7620f33.jpg

Well here is my new to me tig set up and I also found an old roll cart that I put my small mig on so I could roll it around easily. 5d65e45b75ccae5da66672eaff6ebf29.jpg777d5184b8d095fdc2c52dd13e43e47d.jpg3ddbb830f6ff820f85d50942063b825a.jpg
I also picked up some lights that I'm going to rewire 110. They're industrial lights and put out a large amount of light. a34b2722e97b3353a083a968bddfaa89.jpg
Then I straightened up these shelves some more. Have I mentioned how much I hate these shelves and can't wait to tear them down?70851c208d4aee82e97aaba87d0174dc.jpg

I built a few cars in a buddies shop and after a while I couldn't stand the mess and having 4 other people building cars there too. It was a total disaster. Here's a few pictures from inside the other shop and another car I've built. Here's my little girl helping me build my mud truck.

Re: New here, first time home owner and shop owner.

As some of you know I work maintenance in a factory, we produce the aluminum tubes that go in ac condensers and I work on the 2500 ton extrusion presses, but I spend most of my time under a welding hood. I really would rather weld and fabricate all day but that doesn't pay the bills where I live. So I'll deal with a factory job.

Tonight I had to weld up a hole in a distribution block on one of our hydrostatic units, the two shifts before me just put a bucket under it. Anyway, onto the pictures.

Here I am welding up one of our uncoiler shafts, it had broken all of the bolts out of the backside (poor design, can't access bolts when assembled)b3f7b75d8ac3cff184806600b4be350f.jpg

Just got here Mason and went through. I'll be following and I'm sure a lot of other guys will be too. I love the picture of your little girl "helping" in the shop. It puts the tire size in prospective.

That is a tight fit for the truck, but a fit nonetheless. You've already got a nice shop and I'm sure you'll be changing it to better suit your needs.

Re: New here, first time home owner and shop owner.

Thank you for the compliments. If you look at the first picture of the outside of the shop you can see that the door is inset under the awning which I love, what I don't love is the room that was built on that isn't sealed properly or accessible from inside the shop. So I'll be framing up a 10'x10' opening to allow access for tool box storage and workbenches. Then I can start making room for my two post car lift.

Re: New here, first time home owner and shop owner.

Congrats on the new home and shop, definitely a great find! The Nova project really turned out nicely, at the point of which you sold it! I don't blame you for finding you're own shop, I too like everything organized, and not having to utilize limited space around a messy shop floor. People often ask me "If anything ever even happens in my garage? " to which I answer, "Yes, it just takes half the time to finish projects, because I know where all my $#@! is!"

Thanks for sharing!

Re: New here, first time home owner and shop owner.

It was time to sell it. I finished all of the hard parts, Ls swap, t56 (6 speed), Cadillac ctsv interior, suspension, fuel system. The whole build started out as a joke, a "what if we put the drivetrain out of this wrecked ctsv into that $300 nova shell you bought?" Kinda thing. I have two camaros and a 2 door torpedo back Chevy deluxe that I would rather be working on than a nova.

I appreciate it. My s/o wanted it for her desk and her birthday is coming up. Made sense.

Thank you for the congratulations, I put lots of money and time into that nova. I've never been a huge fan of them though

I haven't been in the garage as much lately. I've been working too much. But I did find a brand new Lincoln welders banner rolled up in the back of the maintenance shop at work. So I got that to hang on the wall.

Well I was helping my dad clean out an old friends shop and found these two welders. Anyone have any idea what they're worth?

Re: New here, first time home owner and shop owner.

The guy I bought it from insisted everytime I asked that all of the lights worked. He failed to mention he just meant all the lights that were actually in the truck.

There are expensive Euro lights under here. They bondo and Bedlined over the top of them. I put reflective tape under the covers to make it look like it had tail lights.

Then I started cleaning it up, first I removed the brush guard and put chrome mirrors back on

Then I ordered new front springs because I had plans for this truck. The 4" springs weren't cutting it. So a new chrome front bumper, new bushings, and new super lift 8" front springs were delivered

I ordered a diff cover and new shocks since the old ones were just a touch too short. (Not pictured is all of the parts for my crossover steering, because the push pull steering is garbage)

Well. I picked up a new toy today. Happy Father's Day to me. It's a 1988 cimmaron 500 dx fish and ski.

Does anyone know how to clean up the clear coat on boats? This one has started to yellow and dull in some places. Wet sand and buff?

Couple things,

First. Sweet Chevy, love the boggers

We hunt about a mile down from B&B, great place to party for sure

As for the boat, I really can't push anything other than a Wet Sand and then 3M Restoration Wax.

I appreciate the compliments. I built the Chevy as a truck to flip because of the market here, then my little girl fell in love with it so I decided to keep it.

I'll have to find some of that, is it for a buffer? Or by hand?

I just ordered that ($17) and their marine rubbing compound ($26) off amazon and they should be here by Friday. So I may spend Saturday trying to clean up the boat. I can tell on the insides by the colors that it will be beautiful if it can be cleaned up.

You can use it for both.....

But I would STRONGLY recommend a buffer. I used it by hand once when my buffer quit, and ended up disassembling the buffer to use the neck and pad In a drill instead
