Thanks for stopping in again, I'm in the market for one so I can build bumpers, rock sliders, and roll cages and was looking for opinions on some of the different brands. I used a jd2 model 3 to build the rear bumper and sliders on this but was wanting to hear about some of the other brands.
Thank you for the congratulations and compliment. I grew up on a farm in the country so I've been working on vehicles for as long as I can remember. My first car was a 68 Camaro that I still need to finish, but my first vehicle that I actually drove was an 83 c10 that needed everything. Lol.

Also congrats on the house and shop. I love the thread especially your little girl riding high in that truck. When my girls were small they loved to go fishing because they knew on the way home Dad was gonna do some four wheeling. The memories of those girls laughing and bouncing around the cab of that little Toyota 4x4 as mud washed over the hood are definitely highlights. Good times.

I ordered this Irwin vise grip set on Thursday. It comes with 12"/10"/8" groove lock pliers, 10" crescent, 8" lineman pliers, 8" needle nose, 6" diagonal cut pliers, and 6" slip joint pliers, all for $80. Can't beat that.

Hahaha. Welding is only part of my job. I'm a maintenance tech in a factory that produces the tubes found in ac condensers. I used to work on the high speed cutting side and recently (5 months ago) made the change to the extrusion side where I work on and diagnose hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical problems on 2500 ton presses.
Something is always broke so I do get to spend some time under my hood.

How much of that transmission/clutch do you tear apart yourself? Do you take it right down or do you take it to get overhauled?
I've swapped cases on them before when I bought the wrong series transmission for my old rock crawler. This one will just get drained/split and sealed up since it's leaking. Then I'm changing everything from the master to the slave cylinder because it's losing fluid somewhere and replacing the clutch since I'm already in there.
About 8 years ago while I was in high school I acquired a 1989 Toyota single cab to daily and turn into a medium duty rock crawler.
First things first, I helped my dad build some ball joint spacers, rear leafs, and new shocks.

I added some 4.88 with a lockrite to the rear and 4.88 to the front after a while because I was having traction issues. Sadly no pictures of this.
Fast forward a month or two and I decided that I needed twin transfer cases and a flat belly. So I added a 1" body lift to be able to tuck the transfer cases up.
I bought some 34" tsl one day on a whim after installing the gears and body lift.

I blew up my motor sometime after installing the gears. I ordered an engnbldr kit with crawler cam. I definitely recommend the kit to anyone. 
I pulled the motor and while I waited I got some 35" tires and an addicted off-road front bumper.

Fast forward 2 months and I blew up my transmission lol. So I pulled it. Bought a w56 transmission and bought the wrong one. I have a forward shift transfer case and the one I bought was top shift. 
After some research I figured they were the same transmission just with a different case. So I swapped them.

Fast forward two months. I bought some Chevy leaf springs and a trail master spindle extension 
Here is the rear pretty close to drooped out.
As you can see in the pictures above I made and installed some rock sliders.
After installing the Chevy leafs I figured it was time for some bed protection. So out came the bender and welder. Just a simple tube to keep rocks and things off the bottom of my bed.
