A story that I have wanted to tell for a long time, but you know sometimes things happen for a reason and it goes to the backburner as they say...

This story goes out to GJ member RubiconJk "Something else to keep your eye out for".

Some Special notes:

Because I waited too long and some of my information was lost when the Garage Gazette went down for I think for the second or third time, I lost that information; but what was lost has now been found again !

I am not sure what his name was on the GG, but as I said I found it again under the name of Misouri Wayne and he found it on the web.

I found a Grave but it is not the right man, it would have made him only 14 years old in 1901 much too young for starting a company.

The find can only be described as strange too say the least, but during a tag sale several years back 40 women packed themselves into a small walk in closet with no room to spare. When I asked one of the women in the very back of the line with the following questions..."My gosh all the women must love tools", she said "NO", then I asked" is it for their husbands", and again she said "NO". Finally I asked" why all the fuss" and she said "Women know a good deal when they see one", fair enough. The coping saw was the only thing left hanging in the rafters of that small room.

The Story:

The Company was started by Arthur Henry parker under the name of Parker Wire Goods in 1901 in Worcester, Mass. After some time they started making hand tools and somewhere in that time period they also produced tools for the Craftsman tool line up. Sometime in 1943 they changed their name to the parker Manufacturing Co. I also found in my readings that by 1965 the company was reputed to be the largest maker of hacksaw and coping frames.

Out of pure luck in my research that the story was still recorded for a second time, only this time to another web-related forum and I found it. Nothing better then first hand knowledge of someone that had worked for their company. As his story goes it is an old one we have all heard before...Sears the almighty Dragon slayer took out the parker company with one mighty sword blow, so be sure and read the links to follow. On life support till 1989 when Stanley bought them out and for a short time it was know as Parker-Stanley.

Lot of links and a few pictures, I so hope you like the story tonight.

Ancestry:
1 Arthur Henry Parker, b. March 4, i860; m. (1) Worcester, Mass., April 20, 1886, Alice Edson Stone, dau. James Munroe and Hannah Abby (Loring) Stone, b. Holden, Mass., April 28, 1865; d. Worcester, Mass., Dec. 9, 1890.
Buried in Holden, Mass.; (2) Worcester, Mass., June 5, 1894, Eva Maria Wilson, dau. Charles William and Lucy Maria (Bacon) Wilson, b. Worcester, Mass., June 7, 1869. President of the Parker Wire Goods Company. Residence, Worcester, Mass. Children all born in Worcester, Mass.

Looks like he was a partner with J. F. Healy (Parker & Healy) by 1893, but I haven't been able to dig up what they manufactured.

He is also listed as President of Parker Metal Goods Co. as early as 1924. Both of the attached advertisements are on opposing pages in the 1929 Worcester Business Directory.

Hi Woody! Thanks. Your posts are always very interesting and they do seem to peek my interest in yet another company to watch for as I'm digging through boxes, pails and bins full of old tools. I'll also try to do some searches on Parker.
