Some of you may remember my last new garage... http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40718 That was my dream garage...for a while. I outgrew it faster than I thought possible, but it was workable. The opportunity came up to sell our place and move into our dream home and we went for it.

We sold this house...

And moved to this house...
1248007041_GVwE2-XL.jpg

This was a major downsize, in both space and cost of living. We went from 4100 square feet of living space to 1800. Want to find out how much stuff you have? Move to a house less than half the size you live in now. This place is packed and we still have a full storage unit to deal with.

Now, on to the good stuff...the 1800 square foot house sits on top of a 2200 square foot garage. The PO built this as a guest house for his house next door and the garage as workshop for his contracting business. Due to shifting priorities, he decided to sell.

Outside view...

I started moving into the garage yesterday. The PO still has some of his stuff in there, like a boat and misc., but he'll have all that out in the next couple days.

Chaos...

More chaos...

The future exclusive Land Rover workshop corner...

It's got one of these...which is good, because I'm not out in the wilderness anymore.

It's going to be a fun project to set up shop here. It's kind of overwhelming right now though...there's too much room :)

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!??!! Both of these would be my DREAM house!! Man, i must be in the wrong line of work! haha In all seriousness though, both are Great looking houses, but I assume this new home was the big dream because of the location and the view? I'm really digging the shop underneath the house, very cool design. Good luck with fitting all that stuff in there and keep us updated!

Wow. What an interesting design for the house. Certainly has a unique front door arrangement, but obviously the view is on the other side. Enjoy your newfound space!

Awesome upgrade (downgrade?)!! I love how the front of the house is deceiving vs. the size of it from the back. I've always loved houses set on/in unique topography.

Oh yeah, awesome garage space too!

Hey Rich,
I live in Lake Stevens and drive an old 1969 series Land Rover. I have not seen your 1958 around.

John, the tan LR down by Davies Beach?

The '58 is apart now having some frame pieces replaced. Should be home in the next week or so.

When I got it, it looked like this.

The picture of your first house should be on a Christmas card. Both places are fantastic and you should be proud. Good luck with getting the new shop as you want it. By the way I am jealous.

I've been busy trying to get organized. You probably can't tell from the picture, but only my stuff is in here now. For the last week and a half I've been working on this every day after work and the weekends for hours.

The latest project is to paint the workbenches gloss white. The LR bench is done and I got half way through the big bench before I ran out of paint. It's going to brighten it up a lot.

Okay, not all the stuff is mine. My wife has a bunch of totes she needs to go through and put somewhere else. Plus, the Christmas stuff is in here...it'll all go on one of the high shelves over the LR bench.

Finally to the point where I can see more floor than stuff...I'm gettin' there.

Clear out that storage space ASAP and have a huge garage sale!!!
All that clutter is gonna bog you down!!!
Looks like you have a lot less space to clean, mow, and upkeep....GOOD for you!
Downsizing is possibly the best thing you could have done, Congrats!!!

You are 100% correct. I forgot to mention the storage unit is empty now too. We only have stuff in one place.

I know the second place would suit a lot of people better, in a lot of ways.... but... the first place is right up my alley. Nice!

The new garage should be pretty special though!

I say - good trade. Nice space, looks like a great spot. If you love it, size isn't much the thing until you can't find a spot for some goober gizmo. Washington is such a beautiful state.

Gorgeous house. I much prefer the new place but then I grew up in the country and just prefer houses with wood and character. Can't wait to see the project when it is all completed.

Finished painting the workbenches today. What a difference, much brighter. I think I'm going to add some more lights anyway...can't have too much light.

Much cleaner look

Now that that's done I can really start getting the place set up.

Been working hard on getting organized. It's taking for freakin' ever. It's like a full time job, in addition to my full time job. This is way more fun though.

Christmas stuff on the top shelf, misc. stuff on the 2nd shelf, and car parts on the next one. And, the poster wall for misc. posters. It's amazing how heavy Christmas is...
dsc02974-L.jpg

Getting the workbench set up...it's starting to feel like it's mine.
dsc02976-L.jpg

There's still a pile of mostly household stuff, but it's getting smaller.
dsc02977-L.jpg

Some tools that still need a home.
dsc02979-L.jpg

The dump-run pile is growing everyday (the refrigerator isn't going to the dump).
dsc02978-L.jpg

Tonight I should get the tools put away and the bench cleaned off. I may actually have room to do an oil change this weekend!

I've been spending every spare minute since the last update cleaning, dumping, and arranging. I'm almost done. I doubt many things will stay where are now, but at least I can see how big this space is without all the ****...it's pretty big.
dsc02997-L.jpg

Bay 1, with the bathroom straight back.
dsc02990-L.jpg

Bay 2, with the next project on the project table...a propane fired fire pit table for the beach.
dsc02991-L.jpg

Bay 3, all for the Ducati...it's parked next to the column so the Battery Tender cord is out of the way.
dsc02992-L.jpg

Bay 4, currently the 911 bay, but as soon as the '58 Land Rover gets back from the welder, it'll go here.
dsc02993-L.jpg

This might be a little over the top, but bay 4 also has the lounge area. I wanted something like this in the last garage, but there just wasn't enough extra space...not a problem here. Yes, I know I need to diversify the liquor collection...there is beer in the fridge.

Somebody asked about a boat. I have a 1979 Ski Nautique that I picked up last year for a song. It's got less than 400 hours on it and is in great condition. As soon I have some spare time, I'm taking it in to be de-winterized and get it on the lake.

Amazing garage, Rich, and beautiful Landy. I've been off the grid for a few months and finding this thread has lit the fire again to finally get my garage organized and then start working on my Landy (Series III 88"). Beautiful house, too. I love the PNW. Used to live in Vancouver (B.C., not WA). Wife doesn't want to move that far west, but I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Thanks...I love the PNW too. It rains a lot, but when it's nice there's no where nicer.

As soon as I down load some pics I'll post some of the new deck in work that covers the middle 2 bays. It has a solid deck surface so there's a big covered outside area. It'll be great this winter when I tackle the ugly messy job of replacing the rotten stringers in my boat.
