I'm interested in the propane fire pit. Are you running a line to it from the house or how does the gas get to it?
An old car buddy from Wichita is coming to visit next week so there's been lots of garage stuff happening.
The lounge area and the cabinets traded places in order to find a good spot for the pool table.
New cabinet location.
New lounge area location.
Pool table off in the distance.
I finally got around to cleaning up the back workbench.
And the biggest change - the new deck which also serves as an outdoor covered workspace. The deck surface is solid, so it's always dry underneath...a Godsend around here.
It looks empty now, but the Land Rover is finally coming home from the welder next week and that project will take up a lot of space.
One more parting shot...did I mention I love this garage?

Absolutely love it! Light and airy with a ton of space, and some really nice decor. Can't wait to see pics with the Landy in place.

Any rough dimensions of the garage level? (Width, depth, spacing between columns, etc).
Pretty much spot on for what I am trying to do with my design. If I don't stick with the "Bank Barn Look" this is the look I would go for.

I can't wait to see the Landy in there either.
It's 55' wide and 35' deep. The big bay is 8' longer...2045sq.ft. The spacing on the columns is about 13'. The big bay is 15' wide.

I'm honored that my thread is your first post...however, the Ducati is going away in order to pay for a boat lift. Thanks anyway...
New paper towel holder courtesy of my good buddy, Al Kosmal. It's made from a powder coated 911 lower valve cover and two 911 connecting rods. Note the quick release pins on the towel rod. This thing is awesome!
That's great! I started to make the same style holder from some old VW connecting rods. Could you post a detail photo of the quick release mechanism? I was trying to incorporate a couple old valves and springs for my towel rod.

Rich, that is awesome. I love it. I just picked up a '69 VW Beetle about a week ago, so I think I'm going to steal the idea and try it out with some VW con rods.
ChadM, Home Depot has some 1/4" diameter quick release pins for $3-4 each. They may work for you. I think that's what I'm going to use, and just a wooden dowel painted dark gray or black and drilled on each side to accept the pins.

Im not much for gigantic homes, but as nice as your new place is, I couldn't have given up that haven in the tree's with those views. Wow!

Definitely a good move on your part. The space is outrageous! Like what you have done so far and I really like the bottle of Balvenie..one of my absolute favorites. This is definietly one of my favorites.

This is definietly one of my favorites.It was actually pretty easy to give up. Our commute has been cut in half, everything is cheaper here, and there's a minimum of yard work. Our ultimate goal has always been to live on the water and the big house was just an interim step. I do kinda miss the giant bathrooms and all the closets, but I'll survive.

Looks great, Rich... I just happened upon your thread and had to see your Land Rover. I've got an 88" project in progress as well, and it's at about the same stage as yours. Hard to keep momentum going on it due to my many other projects... here's a pic. Let's race and see who finishes first!

Momo...I don't think we're quite at the same stage yet...I'm still tearing stuff apart and you're putting stuff back together. I just pulled the engine last week and found a sucked valve seat and a bent push rod...which is good. The PO said the engine had been over rev'd and was making a "metallic" sound when running. Everything else looks fine. I'm going to send the head out to be worked on and call it good.
Hey, I noticed in your pictures you were working on the transfer case and maybe the ******...I need to tear into these and may need some guidance.
The work you've done so far looks good!

Thanks Rich... actually most parts are still in the pipeline for cleaning/media blasting, paint/powdercoat and really nothing is quite ready to go back together. My wife has surrendered her space in the garage for now!

- '58 Land Rover engine & ****** rebuild
- '66 911 2.0 engine rebuild
- Sea Doo engine on a bench ready to go back in after some freshening and un-doing some stuff that the last person who pulled it out did

Is your garage going to be painted green now.
I love your house/garage setup. Perfect combo from my perspective -- modest sized house, nice views, large spacious shop. Couldn't ask for more. I can certainly understand why you'd make the move.
Great collection of vehicles as well. A series Rover is on my some-day list, and the early 911 is one of my all-time favorite automotive shapes.
