Is anyone using that 1/2" rapid air kit to plumb their garage? I'm thinking abut getting it and using a couple hose reels with it. I also already have air ride fittings which can let me expand the system.

I have the Harbor Freight clone of this that rapid air sued them over (they don't sell it anymore...). It works great.

Some advice I can offer for setting it up is to lay the lines out on a warm day in the sun to help straighten them. Of course this may be different/better with the actual rapid air system, but my air lines were pretty stiff.

Also, when using the quick fittings, be sure to press them in all the way, it is difficult to actually get them in ALL the way, I used soapy water to lubricate them, this also helped to check for air leaks. The same caveat applies here as to the quality of the rapid air system vs. HF.

The 1/2" is just plastic tubing and will sag if not supported. The 3/4" kit has an aluminum core and is pretty stiff and will dissipate heat better than the 1/2". Both are easy to put in and make routing air lines quick. I like the 3/4" for the main and use 1/2" for regular drops. I think you can direct bury the 3/4" don't know about the 1/2"

I am looking into this too. I think I am going to go ahead and pull the trigger. The cheapest I have found it so far is on Amazon for about $78 shipped. Has anyone seen a better price on it?

I've been watching the price of it on Amazon and that's the cheapest it has gone.

The Amazon kit doesn't come with any fittings I believe. The one I saw on eBay for $109 comes with everything pictured in the first post.
Edit: there might have been another kit I saw without fittings. $78 seems like a good buy!

Don't recall the exact price I paid, but I went with 2 - 3/4" kits from Northern tool when it went on sale.

Didn't think that the 3 drops were enough, and needed a little more pipe. By the time I added a little more pipe and 1 or 2 more drops, it was cheaper to buy 2 master kits.

I installed 1 drop in middle of 3 walls, 3 drops on back wall where my work bench is, and made a custom manifold block to connect everything in the middle of ceiling (with another quick connect).

the straight pipe version that northerntool carries is a better option it doesn't look like a retarded person installed it when your done. the installs ive seen so far have not used a straightener and its all wavvy n saggy.

I looked a little bit more into this kit and it looks very comparable. I do like that the hose is grey instead of blue and only difference I really see if that the air flanges as I think they call them don't come with the quick connects. damn now it looks like I need to make a decision. Has anyone used the tractor supply kit before? I don't see any reviews on it anywhere.

I have the 1/2 inch in my shop and it works well, goes together well (sort of) the main issue I have tith it is that if you don't use a LOT of Teflon tape, the (Chinese?) threads leak. Once I got that figured out it was good.

These make me think of pex and sharkbites (plumbing a basement bath this week to remove the polybutylene). Do folks do this for airlines? What about pex and clinch rings? Sharks are quick and easy, but those fittings are spendy.

Maybe 3/4" copper tubing soldered together is a better option for the money .:dunno:

The big maintenance shop they had where I worked, serviced everything from dump trucks down to string trimmers and they installed this type of air supply system in their shop. I was skeptical of it after I saw they had installed it as it looks "flimsy" to me, unlike the 3/4 - 1/2 in. black iron pipe air system like that I had installed in my garage at home....

When I asked the shop foreman how he liked it, he said it was great system. No leaks, easy to change around or add drops to. It was used for all the conventional air tools that any large shop used, even filling up a Cheeta a lot for the everyday tire work. They bought their system at Northern Tool. JMO

I've installed The 1/2" Rapid Air kit in my garage. I ran all the lines before I insulated so everything is behind the walls/up in the ceiling. I ran each home run straight up from the compressor to a high point in my trusses and then out and down to 3 ports. So far I like the system. I'm don't run more than one tool at once, so volume is not a problem for me with the 1/2". I got mine at Northern Tool.

If you're gonna go with something like Rapidair, you might as well go with the larger tubing. The 1/2" kit is no better than using 3/8" air hoses/barb fittings and more expensive, too.

I helped a friend install that kit. It's not even close to the qulaity of Rapidair. The fittings leaked and the tubing was REALLY stif. Stuff looked low-buck, too. It went back...

One more thing about the Rapidair kit...

Be careful what the tubing comes in contact with... it leaves blue marks on everything it touches! Your hands will be dyed blue after the install.

I did the maxline kit, works great once you get it all set up.

One word of advice, put teflon tape and teflon paste on the threads or you'll be chasing down leaks forever. Coming from experience.

I have the 1/2" Rapid Air kit and I'm happy with it. I tried the whole "un-roll it and leave it out in the sun" bit, but it didn't really help mine all that much. After I had all mine up, I read another member simply placed his inside EMT...dammit why didn't I think of that!?

I'm looking at this online. I really can't seem to find a better option. My shop is 40x100 and there website says to use 3/4" for anything 4000 square feet and above.

The 3/4 is aluminum cored has anyone installed this? Also, it says on there website the best option is a full loop start and finish at the same point. did any of you do that? I'm also trying to figure out how to route this around my steel columns, or just run it right down the center overhead and branch off at each pillar. 3 down each side and the 1 in the center at each end.

I did the 3/4 rapid air in my shop. I went up into the rafters from the regulator/filter. T'd it at the top and took one line all the way to the back and down the back wall and put an outlet outside for trailer tires and spraying paint outside the shop. I went forward from the T up top and T'd again and sent a line down my lift post, and from the other end of that T went to the front wall and down, and T'd again for 2 outlets on the front wall just above the work bench.

These are from before I installed the lift, insulation, front wall and work bench. Nice system, wouldn't have changed a thing.

Bought the 1/2" Rapidair system from Northern Tool. Went together easily. Used it to run air to my ceiling-mounted reel, and one wall-mounted outlet. I believe I paid somewhere around $80 for the kit.

I'm trying the 1/2" kit but am home running each run all the way back to the compressor. There it will connect to a manifold fed by two 1/2 lines. I am also only using it in the attic. For the actual drops through the ceiling I am using up some left over 1/2 copper with ball valve drains at the ends. It may even help to cool the air somewhat. Each run will be about 20 feet or less.
The CFM should be fine. Besides the blast cabinet, most tools are using quick connects. Have you ever looked at the small hole that those things have? Maybe 3/16 inch? Since it is a one man shop (me) there will not be multiple things running. For a small garage I think it is hard to beat.

Picked up three of those about a month ago, the store had them marked at a clearance price, $15 a kit. Have yet to install due to a never ending honey do list.

Home Depot sells the Rapid Air kits. They have a 1/2 inch kit for $78.00. You have to order it online as they don't sell it in their stores.

But it seems like a comparable price to Amazon and the other places.

Here is a screen grab of it:

I just installed the Rapidair system in my shop. The hardest part was getting a bracket to mount the main manifold on. I just wish it came with about 15' more tubing, as I'd like to make it a continuous loop with one more drop.

Whats the common locations everyone installs this lines to. I'm thinking one to the work bench is a must.

Maybe one quick connect on every wall and one outside?

I purchased two of the HF kits, didn't need all the tubing but applying the coupons brought the price for the kit below what I would have paid for the additional manifilds I needed. I had heard the quality of the HF supplied fittings was questionable so I purchased the SMC brand from Grainger. It has been in use in my Garage for three years now and I've had zero issues.

I bought the 300' master kit and some extra outlets from Northern Tool on sale. Installed it in my 60x100 barn/shop. Put in 3 drops in the main part of the drop and 3 in 25x25 air conditioned shop that I am building out. One thing the kits are short on is hangers/clips. I used electrical conduit clamps to attach the pipe to the purlins. Couldn't be happier; no leaks and does what it is supposed to do.

This is a little late and somewhat of a thread revival-

Bought Tractor Supply kit as seen above. Leaked from nearly every quick connect fitting on the tube side. Could be a user issue, could be a poorly designed product. Just FYI.
