Got this one for $50 with base. Came with original manual and wheel dressing tool. It does have the water tray but its not pictured. Just needs minor clean up. And it does have some serious power. I have several 1/2 hp block grinders but this 1HP version is VERY stout. Plus I love the width between the wheels. I was testing it with a piece flat stock steel pressing quite hard and I could barely detect a drop in RPM. Has original craftsman wheels which did pass the ring test btw.

The base came with it and it seems to be a good one made from an old truck brake drum and pipe.

Nice find!

The 1-HP Block grinders demand respect, they're not your Big Box store wimps.

Be sure to visit the CM Block grinder threads, where there's a lot of good information and helpful members:

One word about the grinding stones; the Ring test is valid, but not the only consideration on a vitrified grinding stone. For more information see the post below. BTW - I never trust a used stone on the grinders I buy. It's good insurance to replace with new ones.

Question for Dr Block on some of these 1 HP grinders: what is the reason some of these have the extra width which from the looks of it, is like 4-5" additional spacers or extensions, that goes between the body and the grinding wheels on both sides, always wondered why some were normal size and others wide body's?

I noticed that as well. Its more obvious in person how WIDE that damn thing is. I always thought it was simply for accessibility on the inboard side of the wheel. Using this one the additional access is noticeable.
