I gather from a Google search that Livernois was a big automotive performance company, but over one HUNDRED lifts? Why in the world did they need a hundred + lifts? :wtf:

Good Lord!!! Of all times not to be wealthy and have a huge pole building. There is going to be a lot of happy people this Christmas. Just like those surface plates, they probably won't go for much except to someone that builds frames and use them for layouts. And you know that they only bring pennies on the dollar at scrap value. Getting them home would be a killer though.

In one of the return searches it also stated this......
Since 1950, Livernois Vehicle is your complete product development partner for engineering, prototypes, testing, fabrication, launch support & specialty vehicles.

They may have worked closely with the Big Three in testing and development.

It's their vehicle development section. They do work for the big 3 and maybe the others too. Multiple lifts so a vehicle can stay up on the lift while at various stages of research and not tie up the lift for another vehicle.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Livernois Vehicle Development began its history as a part of a larger company, Livernois Engineering Company. Livernois Engineering began in 1950 in the areas of die design and die build.

In 1958, the company branched out with its own product line of portable transfer dies under the name of Livernois Automation. This was the world's first in portable die transfer systems. The next area of growth began in the early 1960’s with product design opportunities in the heat exchange area for Ford Motor Company. This allowed us to grow another division that specialized in building production equipment and tooling for heat exchangers, such as, radiators, condensers, heater cores for the OEM market as well building prototypes and low volume production.

Then in the mid 1990’s, Livernois Engineering began to divest its business units to other third party companies.

In 2000, Livernois Vehicle Development was purchased by one of the previous operating family members, Norma Wallis and became a new stand alone company with a renewed focus on customer services and customer needs. Livernois achieved both the Ford Q-1 award and received the highest customer satisfaction rating the Ford supplier commodity base, for two years in a row. In April of 2003, Livernois Vehicle Development was awarded the World Supplier Excellence Award by Ford Motor Company for outstanding performance in cost, quality and timing for the year 2002.

In 2001 the company also branched out into the high performance business, by creating another company, called Livernois Motorsports. This company builds complete race and street motors, builds CNC cylinder heads, operates a complete engine machine shop and offers a wide array of installations services including superchargers, turbo’s, engine tuning and other specialty performance parts.

Got any GJ agent ready to step-up and buy some of those Miller welders?? How about snagging those Millermatic 252's and the smaller Millermatics ?? Those 252's retail over $2,000 new.

Need to include in bidding 15% Buyer's Premium (in person) or 18% if bidding on internet !! :shocking:

Eric,

vec-dev went **** up last month.......the employees had no idea until the day of closing... alot of good guys (some motown muscle guys) took it in the shorts....

Well that *****. I never thought about checking over at MM, but I did start a thread asking about it over at YB.

Even though I haven't been over at Motown much in the last year or so, I know that there's a bunch of good guys there and it really ***** to hear that.

So much for the great economic recovery.
Many of those jobs had to be skilled.

Wow would love to hit this one. To bad it's about 8 hrs away

20 hours for me. BUT - if those 9K's go for, say $500 I'd be out about $560 in fuel to run up there and back with the trailer. Hell, it's only 2700 miles round trip. :p For that kinda buy I'd cut holes in the ceiling.

You might think I'm goofy but people around here have been known to drive to Fl, Kentucky, Michigan, etc on a weekend to pick up a used race car.

the folks who worked there got a recorded message saying they could retrieve their tools "by appointment" only.

Mizzi's girlfriend who used to work the front office, helped some of the guys get their stuff back. (Mizzi is boosting buick on motown and used to be a fabricator at Livernois motorsports. He moved down here to North Carolina about 6 years ago)

It is sad, but in light of the 2008 meltdown, Ford who was their major contract decided to do most of their development back in house. from what I heard they were picking up some warrenty work to try and keep their head above water. but it wasent enough.

Livernois had a pretty good facility, unfortunately this type of thing happens in the industry. Show up to work one day to find the doors locked, I wouldn't say it's common, but this isn't the first time I've heard something like this.

With that being said, this may be a cool auction to attend, but I'm looking for smaller stuff and don't have room for a lift.

I know many that have went after a race car and driven a decent amount.

If you're serious about the trip let me know, you can stop and pick me up, I'll help you load it up.

I'm going to the preview on Tuesday to see if they have a few specifics that I want to bid on.

I did think about it for a while, but practically speaking I can drive over to Ft Worth and pick up a new one for a few $$$ more. But, there is much to be said about a road trip.

I just finished a walk thru of this auction site. These are the model numbers of the lifts that are available:
Bid #'s 751-759, 773-781, 789-796, 797-801-----Rotary model SPO9, 1993 versions
#'s 746-750, 750a&b ------ Rotary model SPO15, 1993 versions, (#746 is 2003 version)
#'s 769-772, 803-809, 810-816, 818-851 ----Rotary model SPOA9, most are 1996 vintage
#'s 821-825, 834 are not bolted to the floor, but are standing. #'s 854-858 are unbolted and knocked down and palletized
#860 is an old VBM 4 post, 12k capacity with runways that look to be 20' long, but VERY narrow, maybe 12" or so. Probably mid 1980's.
#859 is an ancient VBM or Challenger 40k capacity MONSTER lift. Columns are almost 3' square and must weigh 2000 lbs each.
Last Rotary lift that I didn't see a bid # on was an ARO123-22 alignment rack (4-post)
There is also a Hunter 4-post alignment rack, but I didn't get the bid # on that.

Note:

I called the auction manager, and they stated that nobody can remove a lift unless they have a $1 Million insurance bond. So that's basically riggers. I called a rigger i know and he quoted me $255/hr and 5-6 hours to remove two lifts. So in that case, including buyers' premium and michigan tax (total 21%) unless the lifts are virtually FREE, it doesn't make sense to purchase an installed lift, as the going rate for a used 2 post lift in this area is approximately $1500. I'm guessing based on previous auctions with lifts I have attended, that towards the end of the day, the lifts will be near scrap prices, so ~$500ish, but your removal costs will make that more like ~$1200-1300.

So this really isn't the deal i thought it might be.

Call your insurance company, explain the situation and ask what a temporary policy would cost. That damn auction manager should know that everyone that goes there is not going to carry a million dollar bond, unless he is somehow tied in to a person that will just happen to be there to remove them.
