So I do a decent amount of tracing wires and I am always stabling my finger with those pointed testers. I want something that can reach in and single out a wire and pierce through the insulation for testing purposes.

I found these which come in an 11" and 15". Looking at the pictures it has more then just one needle that pierces the insulation. They must be very tiny so I wonder how strong they are. The notes listed say the tip is very fragile, and to not let it hang by its own weight off a wire as that could damage the tip. My question is has any one used these models and is it worth the 60-70 bucks?

My Power Probe came with those, and they are absolutely outstanding.

Just hook the wire and pierce. It's amazing how easy it makes things. For that matter, it's amazing how easy the Power Probe makes things.

I don't know why they are asking so damned much.

You may as well get the whole probe kit, if you're planning to spend that much on a couple of diagnostic accessories.

It's impossible to explain why it's so great. You have to use one. Buy this:

http://www.amazon.com/Power-Probe-PP3LS01-Circuit-Tester/dp/B007QV0R7W

...And worship me later. It's that great, and it's so simple a damned turtle could use it.

Your Multimeter, test lights, jump leads, and all those stupid clips you end up with over time will gather dust, my man.

Don't scratch your head and wonder why it's so great. Don't even bother asking me.

It cannot be explained. Just buy the damned thing.

You're considering spending that much anyway.

Ma you were so right on with this one. It is built very well. No more trying to find a piece of wire to extend the test lead from hood to interior. With the 20 foot extension leads, there should't be anything out there you cant text from front to back. Well at least for me anyway.

Got one question for ya, inside when you open the lid up on the left hand side there are indentations where the yellow and green probe are stored. Mine has a spot for 3 probes but only came with 2. The packing list only called out for 2, so I wonder what is supposed to go there? Is your like that? This is the Power Probe III I am talking about. Also noted that the case came black when the pictures showed red. Color doesn't matter me, just thought it was weird. A'Even the sticker on the case itself shows a red case.

Anyway, thanks again! Im glad I took the time to post the question before ordering those other 2 probes. Once again GJ comes through. :bounce:

Sorry, I've been away for a bit.

Mine has two black adapters there. Check to be sure you don't have any loose adapters in the main compartment.

I've honestly never seen a red case, though, aside from the master sets with the trick electronics.

Yeah, these things are built very well. They don't look like much in pictures, and they don't sound like much when reading the online literature. Once you get one, however... Well, your diagnostic life changes forever.

Just wait until you really start screwing around with that thing. Every time you touch it you'll love it even more, because you begin to understand just how simple things can be.

We see a complex problem these days, and immediately think a complex solution is required.

It takes a Power Probe to show us that even the most seemingly complex issues still boil down to nothing more than subatomic plumbing. :)

Congratulations: Now you can solve nearly any electrical issue with a single tool!
