$3,000 - what a heck of a deal! You made a few hundred back finding that Wilton. Who knows what those old Chiltons might be worth to the right person. All in all, that's a majorly glorious "You ****!"

Looking back at your pictures, it almost reminds me of movie / book "The Shining" - you can tell the innards of the garage are stuck in time, and that place just itches to be turned into something amazing (which you seem to be doing). It's almost eerie... sort of like the kind of place where you could fall asleep and wake up back in 1952.

Had a guy stop by today inquiring about the building. Supposedly they want to open a shop and are looking for a building. Somehow the number 20k got brought up and the guys buddy wants to look at it next Saturday.

Its a very tempting offer, considering my total investment, but it just doesn't feel right. I think I will offer to rent the basement garage to them but selling it would be like losing a friend!

Haha actually I asked about it the other day and I guess the previous owners of the fire station bought it back. I still want to check it out. There are jail cells in the basement that I would like to see.

Might not be a great idea if they see what he paid

Depends how much you NEED the garage, if you think you'll really use the space then keep it / rent it. Else I'd be sorely tempted to take the quick profit.

Sorry for the long delay, I have been swamped with work! A bit of progress has been made. I got another roll off filled by gutting the upstairs. I purchased 2 4x4 double Windows from upstairs and have 11 freebie glass block Windows coming in soon.

I also purchased a new front door slab which I need to paint and install.

No progress yet on the roof but will be tackling that as soon as the stucco is finished. I know the roof is more important but I would like to have it dressed up for the fourth of July parade.

What type of roof are you putting on? If you put a pitched roof on with trusses, the water would really run between you and the house next door. Or are you going back with the original style and have a gradual slope from front to back? The only thing bad about a flat roof or close to being flat is snow loads, and ice. It really shortens the lifespan of a roof.

Yes it is the "second" floor. That is a garage door at the far end. From the front of the building it is actually ground level, from the back it is the second floor with the basement garage door at ground level.

The final roof decision is to rebuild it the way it was. After going back and forth between options it is the easiest for us to work with. I will be either going with rubber or spray foam depending on how much money is left at the end of the season

Being a Dryvit contractor, naturally I am stuccoing the building but I plan on trimming around the Dunlap's logo. Somebody has a lot of time put into it and I can't cover it up!

I stumbled upon some spare time today so I did a little work at the building.

After going back and fourth a bazillion times on this damn roof, were trussing the ***** and being done with it. The beams would look nice but this way will give me 12`7" ceiling height on the low step and about 16` on the high step. I am cutting the parepets down to create one "step" in the roof.

For the wife's birthday we went to the tractor show/flea market. The rain had a lot of the vendors shut down but I did pick up a sign for the shop at one of those repro sign places.

How much money will you have in updates on the building after the roof?

Roof should be around 12k by the time we are done including dumpsters and such. Thankfully the underground gas tanks have long since been removed so that won't be an expense.

Pretty good day at the shop today. Spent most of the day here today.

Got both parapets hammered down to where they need to be for trusses.

Got dumpster #6 in and did some more clean up.

This lasted a total of 25 minutes outside.

It was apparently wood construction back then and came out closer to the road. It was Wilson's garage back then and supposedly had the best radio in town. The locals would gather there to listen to Amos and Andy.

Trusses! You'll have it closed in before the first snows of winter. A huge step in the restoration/renovation process; speaking of huge steps, be careful while working up there!

Cool project. I envy you. How much land is around the building? Do you only have drive in access through the front?

The land is literally the size of the building. The only parking area is what you see out front although there is access around back to the basement garage via garage door.

Started setting the 2x10's around the perimiter today along with starting the knee wall in the back to get everything up to parapet level. Hope to have trusses set next week then time to tear off the other half of existing roof.

You need to get this blown up and framed and put it in the shop... seriously. Awesome!
