Working in a lab, Sharpie's are one thing I will never need to buy again! I actually brought a gallon bag full of them back to work last year because I had so many at home.
Pro-tip: They are very convenient for writing on glass, non-porous metal, etc. They don't wash off much with water but will wipe off cleanly with denatured alcohol, isoproyl alcohol, or acetone. At work, we will often write on windows, glass walls, etc. when brainstorming then just wipe it away with a spray bottle of alcohol.
Actually I found they bleed pretty badly on labeling when put into an autoclave. Switched over to Industrials and haven't had the same problem.
The tips seem to last longer before they get blunted to a nub as well. If you buy them by the box you only pay about 70 cents a piece. Occasionally Amazon has distressed boxes discounted to 50 cents a piece.
