I have a 12x12x6 weatherproof junction box for all my pool electronics that I need a new lid for. 2 of the corners are cracked. Anyone know if I can buy just a lid? Menards has the whole box for $50, but I just want the lid.

Do you know the manufacturer? Any chance you can contact them and see if they have a part number and ability to order that part?

Menards doesn't list the manufacturer on the website. Home Depot lists one as either Carlan or Cantex, but someone asked the same question on the HomeDepot website already and were told no. I just thought the pro's on here might have a source. I'll pull the lid off later and see if it has Manufacturer info inside.

I would replace the whole box especially if the pvc box is old.
Not worth the time aggravation, gamble on the fit and shipping cost to find just a cover.……. That’s if you can find a cover and gasket that fits.
I'm not replacing the whole box unless absolutely necessary. It has all kinds of wiring running in and out that would need unhooked and reconnected. The box itself is fine. I just overtightened the screws and cracked the cover corners. I can buy the exact box with lid, so I guess I'll do that and trash the box.

I think this the box in question. This is the label that was on it.

How do you know what box the OP has?
He said he bought it at Menards and said it was $50. This is the only 12 x 12 x 6 junction box at my store. The picture at the link below is not correct for the box they have. The model number, BPF01703, matches the label above on it, however.

Pictured here in a previous post. If you zoom in you can see the cracks the OP is talking about.

Yeah, that one doesn't look the same. Unfortunately I didn't install it myself, my pool installers did, so I don't know exactly where they got it. I thought it was the Menards one, but now I'm not sure. I guess I need to go look at that one and the one at Home Depot and maybe some of the local electrical supply companies and see if I can match it or not. Replacing the box is always an option, but that requires unhooking all the wires and removing all the conduit connections. Then reinstalling it all. The cracks don't effect the box at all and since I can orient both at the bottom, I'm not worried about water. I was just thinking about adding indicator lights into the cover and thought it would be smart to start with a fresh, uncracked lid before I started the modifications.

Is there a profile along the interior edge of the cover or is it just flat with a gasket?

If it's just flat, I'd consider drawing it up at send cut send and have them cut one out of aluminum. Perfect time to add your indicator lights

There is a channel along the back of the cover with the gasket inside. This is the closest picture I can find of what it looks like online. Mine doesn't have the brass inserts for the screws though.

Or consider a few stainless steel fender washers between screw head and pvc.

BTW, the new box you mentioned above getting pitched in the garbage makes a great parts bin, etc.

So far we haven't had luck finding just a cover for the 8"x8" Carlon PVC boxes. There's one at work and the lid keeps getting smashed so we buy another box just for the lid. We must have a half dozen lid-less boxes on the workbench just holding loose parts.

Maybe fix the reason it keeps getting smashed?

Replace the box with a metal one & the problem is gone, PVC exposed to sunlight is always a bad idea.
Who makes a 12" x 12" metallic outdoor junction box that seals out the elements as well as a PVC box and won't rust/corrode?

It is silly to use most metal conduit and such outdoors in Minnesota. PVC isn't perfect either, but at least it doesn't rust through. I have seen plenty of examples locally of metal conduit rusted out completely with the wires exposed. I used some 1-1/2 EMT on the side of my house, and I can't believe it hasn't rusted yet after five winters outside. I didn't want a long horizontal run of PVC to sag. I couldn't afford to use rigid, nor did I want to hire an electrician with the proper tools ( threader) to install it.

BTW - Metal covers need to be grounded. Include a ground lug and connect it to the system grounding conductors.
