I never knew they existed...

The largest single phase motor I thought was available was 10 HP. I checked FL amps on Baldor's site, shows 66 on 208v.

There are a lot of things in this world that have existed for years and I am slowly becoming aware of.

Not everyone who needs a large motor has three phase power available to them; so they find a way to work with whatever is available.

300lbs lol. 120lbs heavier than my 10hp single phase

I would believe that, it’s got to be every bit of 300lbs, I wouldn’t even try to lift this old girl. The 16HP is on the left and that’s a 7.5HP next to it on the right.

We see a few of them out here on the Canadian prairies.
Farmers use them to drive grain augurs.

I've got one driving my Quincy 5120, farmer I got it off used two of them, running off generators, to drive a big augur before going to 3 phase.

230V - 60A. I try not to have it kick in while I'm welding.

Here's another farmer selling two of them for CDN$1K - $500ea probably worth that in scrap lol. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1522870186

If you live in a residential area, the power company won't like it if you try to use one (or your neighbors, when their lights dim every time the thing starts.)

20 years ago, a guy gave me a single phase induction motor that was 120 volt only 110 on the nameplate. I remember it being 50 amps on the nameplate or something crazy like that???? I moved soon after and the Scrap Buyer took it when He bought all the Fab scrap (treasure pile). If it had been easy to move I would have kept it for a conversation piece!

They aren't uncommon around here. Biggest common single phase ones I have wired are 17hp axial fans in grain dryers. The rated current is about 78A on those. Normally feed them with a 125-150A breaker.

Used to be common to see legs or blowers with (2) 10 or 15hp single phase motors running it. Now that vfds are reasonable we normally put a 3-phase motor on and feed the vfd single phase input.

A couple weeks ago I wired a 50hp blower up with a vfd fed single phase.
