My c3 drill bit the dust. I bought an extended warranty thank god, but I have to mail in the broken drill from my combo kit to get store credit.

I can buy from sears online or the store I guess. What drill/driver combo kit would you buy for 150-200 clams? They do sell milwaukee, makita, and dewalt as well which, anything should be better than a c3 if its going to die at 1.5 years old and non heavy use.

Either of those brands will be super nice for you, but I'd personally go the DeWalt route as they are an American co. with a made in USA drive/campaign. I've dropped my DeWalt stuff off ladders way up and they still keep working well.

Milwaukee #2701-22CT M18 Compact Brushless Drill/Driver Kit...

Sears charges $315.82 from "Right Choice Sales" a Sears Marketplace seller...

Home Depot has the set for $199.99...

Will Sears "price match"???

CPO Outlet has "Reconditioned" sets for $144.00 under #2701-82...

I own one of these, and they will do your job...

That's just a regular drill. If I were the OP, I'd get a 1/4" impact driver AND a regular drill combo kit. Yeah CPO is good, also Blinq, and some online sellers as well as Home Depot, Lowe's.

I wouldn't just look at Milwaukee, I'd also throw Makita and DeWalt in the mix. Truth is all 3 are good brands.

If you have a lot of Craftsman 19.2V C3 stuff I would consider the Craftsman brushless with LI-Ion battery. You can get it for $199 right now.

If you want to start getting away from the C3 platform listen to the other guys.

Just curious -

How long were you using it to start your weed whacker and what model drill was it?

Long story short, my weed whacker starter cord broke, including the wind up spring, so I use a socket on my drill and start it that way.

Well my craftsman c3 cordless went up in smoke today when I tried to start it. Drill is a little over a year old. I'll see if sears helps me out, (highly doubt it) and from there I'll see what I can get into. All the big brands arent what they used to be, but Im leaning towards starting with dewalt. Im sure as hell not spending $400 on a drill/driver kit.

Found the e-receipt in my old email! Turns out I paid for a protection plan too. The warranty dept on the phone couldnt look me up either so everybody was happy to give me the finger. On my way to sears now to get a replacement.

I feel Dewalt is the carpenters brand of choice, while Milwaukee is tradesman (plumber, electrician, hvac) tool of choice. I have a bunch of different cordless tools - Makita 18v, Ridgid 18v, Ryobi 18v, Dewalt 18v, and Dewalt 20v. Out of all them, the only batteries to die on me were both of my Makita 18v batteries. My Ridgid 18v were most used and out of 10 or so batteries that I have, they all still work great. I picked up a 20v Dewalt impact driver with 1.5ah battery for free so decided to buy a charger, 1/2" impact, and bigger 3ah battery. I'm extremely impressed and just placed an order for 20v hammer drill to go with. I use Milwaukee 18v fuel at work sometimes and personally think they're large and heavy. I'd go with Dewalt 20v if I had to pick just one platform.

Maybe 2 or 3 times. Not much at all. Its not some high compression motor either.

It looks like dewalt is the only one actually sold by sears & I would guess you couldn't use the gift card for a marketplace seller. Unless things have changed since I was tools department manager they can't price match or adjust those prices. Probably can't adjust anything that isn't bought from the store itself including online only items. I picked Milwaukee for the add on selection & have been very happy but I would be perfectly happy with dewalt. Also definitely go for li ion battery & 12v is probably better than a c3.

What I've done in the past at other stores is when I get store credit and don't want anything there I buy something and then return it for cash. It might or might not work.

YMMV

If you get a credit, I'd be leaning towards Dewalt, Makita or Milwaukee brands if the latter two are a available. One issue I've found with Cman cordless tools is they seem to change them every so often. Not to mention the fact of Sears circulating the drain would make me choose another color of tool.

Myself, I have and prefer Dewalt 18 volt.

I personally like my DeWalt, though I see that's not the most popular opinion here! haha
I have also had a Black and Decker for a long time, but I don't use it for heavy projects since the battery doesn't last as long as I'd like.
