I would like a battery powered light that uses one of my cordless tool's batteries, but not sure which is best, if any. I currently have Dewalt 18v and 20v, Ridgid 18v, Ryobi 18v, and Makita 18v. I would like a flood light sort of like a drop light for using under the hood, not a flash light. The 20v Dewalt is stupid expensive, is it really worth all that money? I like the looks of the Makita and have the batteries, but don't use that platform any more. I do use the Ridgid still, but unsure if the lights are practical for engine bay type lighting.

Here's a link to each. I'm personally liking the flexible Ridgid. What are your thoughts? I would appreciate feedback from actual users vs. opinions. And no I'm not buying Milwaukee.

Ive used the Dewalt 18v DC827 quite a bit.
Its a pretty decent light.
It has a soft glow without being overbearing.

Though its not on your list, Milwaukee has the best and widest selection of lights. The M12 stick light ($60) is highly recommended for what you describe, I have 2 of them I use on my cars. The 1st gen M18 flood light ($100) is also great, they have 12 different lights on the market now with 6 crazy cool ones coming this year. But the prices I mentioned are light only w/o battery & charger.

Oh ok I'll just spend $100 on the light, then another $120 on battery and charger. Why use the stuff I already have?? :willy_nil

Check out the Capri tools led lithium light.. it uses its own permanent battery and works both corded and cordless. 300 lumens, excellent light and is cheaper and will outperform any cordless branded light under $100 for about $60.. its a great work light and under hood light. Many people in here have one.

I have basically every Milwaukee cordless,. this one is money better spent..

One of my major concerns is over charging the battery, but according to the description this has over charge protection. That's important to me because I don't wrench for a living, so this won't see constant, every day use. Also good that it can be plugged in and used. My Ridgid and Dewalt battery chargers do have overcharge protection. That's why I wanted a light capable of running of those batteries. I watched a few videos on the Ridgid dual feature flex light last night and liked what I saw, so I bought one off eBay for $30. I'd still be interested in the Capri light though. Here's the Ridgid

I have the dewalt dcl050 and love it, I actually want another one. It can be a bit a large at times under a dash but it lights up the whole underdash. The other cool thing is the head goes 90 degrees so it can stand on its own and you can work with things directly under the light.

I used to use the 12v dewalt light all the time since it was so small and has the convenient magnet, but after I got the dcl050 I rarely use it.

Yes that's it.. there are also a few videos on YouTube showning the durability and light output of the Capri.. just search Capri tools led light. Alot of guys here have them and have nothing but good things to say about it.. I use mine every few months and it's always ready a d holding a charge waiting for me when I need it.

Seriously though, I just picked up the Ridgid flex light annndddd it stinks. The "flood" light is the exact same brightness as my Nebo Big Larry, but 5x as big. The biggest problem though was the flexible neck was very sloppy and wouldn't hold its shape. It also doesn't stand up on its base like I thought it would. It constantly tips over. I'm returning it to HD tomorrow.

It's funny you brought this up. I as well was looking for a work light. I have a streamlight stinger LED as well as a shop type light (longer tube light with magnet on it). I was going to look into a milwaukee light as i've been wanting to get into their 12v line, i have the m18 fuel tools. But there were so many lights the decision was over whelming. I ended up going with a 20v ingersoll rand task light because i have a spare 3.0 battery anyways. Whatever you choose, i hope you're happy with it. Even with the two lights i have now i can't always get the perfect position for them to work in every situation.

LOL, yeah but us Milwaukee guys recommend the M12 stick or M18 floods, and its getting even more confusing and pricey with all their new crazy lights coming out this year.

I have the makita and find it very useful, very bright and a good food style light to boot, two light levels is nice as well.

It is absolutely amazing. I also have the Ryobi light linked above and although it's a durable and extremely bright light...wouldn't recommend it for underhood work, etc. b/c it's almost too bright.

The one I just posted a link to though, is perfect in my book.

I'll try to snap some pics of it's capabilities sometime this week / weekend and update.
