Great to see the ads through the years. Do you have a guesstimate when these ads were used throughout the years?
1934-19xx?

Thx

I had the ads dated, but it just blended in with all the pics. I just went back and changed the color and size of the text to stand out between the groups. The ads are from 1934-1966

Wow Joe the station has came a long way and you have done a fantastic job! I think the city would be very proud of what you have done in transforming the station! I know I would love to come and see it during the Christmas Holiday, if I didn't live so far away. Can't wait to see the security cam shots of the local people taking their own pictures in the sleigh, Kids will love Dino xmas

Great find on those ads. I really like the war bond ad and the ones with the station in it. Look
Forward to your Christmas Dino.

Spent a little more time at the library digging through the newspaper archives and finally found the prize I was looking for. An ad for the stations grand opening. The date was a surprise..it dates the building roughly 3 years earlier than what county records show. The grand opening was held May 21st, 1932. Also interesting to me, in all the early 1932 ads it mentions it as a new flood light station. I suppose in small town Iowa 1932 a lighted service station may have been a big deal.

This ad for TIRELOX also intrigued me, so I thought I would see if I could find anything about them on the internet. I ended up finding a complete set in the original box with key and instructions on ebay for 25 bucks.

May 21, 1932, that's exciting to finally find the actual opening date of the station

I like the ad stating 5 gallons of oil for $2.00....that's 40 cents a gallon, oh the good ole' days :lol_hitti

I have never seen those Tirelox's before! A really cool piece! Its the precursor to the locking lug nuts...great find!

Joe, do you have any pictures of the flood lights that were being used in the early 1930's at your station? It sounds like they had more than just the lights over the doors back then. You need some period correct flood lights.

Yes, I'm making work for you! :D

I was watching Bitchin’ Rides and they were working on a fiberglass MB Gullwing clone. For custom wheel tubs they went to afiberglass company and the work area was full of Dino’s in various stages of completion. I think the name was Superior and assume it’s in Salt Lake City.

My vote, American Graffiti 5 window.

Yep. I seen that too. That's the place the makes the new Dinos for Sinclair. Sinclair had a Facebook Q&A about Dino a while back and they said they make 3 to 5 a week and have a waiting list 500 deep.

Since we're talking about Dino, I forgot to post this the other day. It's a 1958 credit card receipt clipboard. I felt it was only fitting to display it with an original Perry Oil tank wagon receipt.

Here are a few more of the early 1932 Perry Oil advertisements.

You've added a lot of great station history lately. I've enjoyed following your thread.

One suggestion from winter display experience : drill some weep holes in the floor of the sleigh and coat the entire floor with bedliner. Hundreds of wet boots can take a quick toll on a painted surface.

Re: 1932 Gas Station Resurrection

Made my new regular Friday afternoon stop at the library to kill a couple hours digging through newspaper archives. I came across this mid 30's ad that has become one of my favorites.

As some may remember when I first took possession of the building I pulled the 3 hand painted wood signs out of the attic. I found a 1977 ad for the shoe repair shop that the signs were made for. This was the last business in the building before Joyce bought the building and turned it into the flower shop.

Added a couple pretty rare Sinclair items to the collection. First is a large window poster. I believe it is from 1953. It's new enough to have Power X on the pumps, but would have been right at the end of the Sinclair-ize campaign. The other is a WWII glass bottle era lighter fluid. I'm sure there are more out there, but this is the only one I've ever seen. Glass bottles were used during the war to free up steel for the war effort.

10-1966 Montgomery Ward service specials ad. This would have been within the first 6 months of Montgomery Wards tenure in the building. I've been slowly adding MW cans to the display as I find clean ones.

Every time I read this thread I smile.

Now that people know about your place is it easier to find items? What I mean is, they know you may be interested in them so they call or bring them by or is still a treasure hunt for you?

Every now and then I'll get somebody local stop with something. I've bought a few things that way, but not really that much though. I use Facebook A LOT, there's a very good network of groups, pickers, daily facebook auctions and of course Facebook marketplace. Within that I've built a lot of good relationships with other collectors and pickers who have a pretty good idea what I'm interested in. Ebay is a good resource if you know prices and know when walk away from an item. I do a lot of side deals off of ebay. I watch for sellers that appear to be selling off collections and message them to see if they have anything else that they maybe willing to part with. I have found that old time collectors like to see their items go to other collectors and not to somebody that's just trying to buy it cheap to resale and double their money. They like the idea of it going to someplace that it'll be on public display of sorts.

I think you are having more fun with the shop than with the main reason you bought the shop, to store and restore the collection! But, it's all good and it's okay to be out of control as long as you got the time and money! Love what your doing as I get your FB feed before I see you post here...very cool stuff my friend!
