Wondering if the storms yesterday affected Perry? Certainly hoping all is well there!

Yeah, we were hit pretty hard. Station survived with very minimal damage. I lost 2 large trees at home, but at least they fell clear of the house and the pole buildings. Power is still out at home...looking like it may be the weekend at the earliest to get it back on. I'll post some pics when I get power back.

Great news to hear that you came through that good. I work in insurance and our company has several insureds in Iowa that had massive damage.

We had a severe line of storms come through Monday mid-morning. They were not tornadic, just 70-100 mph straight line winds. They have a special term for it, but basically it was like an inland hurricane that took about a half hour to pass. The entire time the wind never let up. Craziest storm I've ever seen in my 42 years.

Man, I been in one of those. They ****. We were on my way home from Texas the summer of '88. Watched several rigs get pushed over on the highway. Luckily they knew to slow down. We pulled over. We were in an '86 ****** wagon. Scariest wind storm I ever been in that wasn't a tornado or hurricane. Really glad there wasn't more destruction.

Four months without an update? FOUR MONTHS???

Yeah Yeah...I know. Life gets in the way sometimes. Been working a lot of OT, farmers must have had some $$$ burning holes in their pockets and ordered a lot of new iron.

The holiday season is one of my favorite times of the year around the station, unfortunately due to the virus the annual lighted parade was cancelled. Santa decided to spend a couple hours at the station the Saturday after Thanksgiving to spread a little Holiday Cheer.

Sadly some do not appreciate efforts made to make a community better and only want to help themselves to others hard work. Luckily these two weren't very good at their midnight activities and didn't make away with anything. I've taken some more precautions to secure my property and extra patrols have been ongoing. There is more to the story that has not been made public...I will leave it at I'm very confident they will be caught. Its only a matter of time.

Thanks for the update and holiday cheer.

Guess some feel it’s better to take than to give. Sad place we’re in. Nice cameras though. Two thumbs up.

Fantastic doesn't adequately acknowledge the work you've done. I may have to ride down to Perry next summer just to see it. Google needs to update the images for Perry. When I found it on Google and went down Willis Ave all I get is the image of the Sinclair station well before you got it fixed up. Keep it up.

So has Perry been a stop for the RAGBRAI yet? Your shop would be a real draw while 10,000+ bicyclists ride through Perry.

Too bad you can't wire some devices to the outside displays that would shock would be thieves and a-holes. I once owned a 73 Mercedes that certain persons loved to relieve it of the classic emblem standing proud on the front grill. It was spring loaded so it would deflect if hit, but yank hard enough and off it comes. After loosing two of them I seriously thought about wiring contacts below the spring mount, route wiring from the contacts to the battery, pull up on the emblem far enough and your hand is connected to some serious jolt. Re-thought that idea, as it would have been more effort to remove the fired dead hand and body from the car. I could have just used a 9v battery, not enough juice to kill, but enough to cramp the hand muscles tight until the cops got there.

Shop looks cool as always. The pedal cars look almost to scale in the picture.
Merry Christmas to you and all

Perry has been an overnight stop 5 times, the last one being 2013.(For anyone wondering what RAGBRAI is, it is a week long bicycle ride across the state of Iowa. They start on the western border and finish on the eastern border.)

I get quite a bit of bicycle traffic as it is. Perry is part of the Raccoon Valley Trail and will soon have a trail connecting the RVT to Woodward and the High Trestle Trail.

Where do I start?

Came across the thread originally back in maybe May/June 2020 when I started working from home and started reading. Got my work laptop around then and ended up not using the PC much and started reading again over christmas so have only finished reading the last ~70 or so pages.
What a fantastic job you've done and so lucky to have the backing of the city. Sadly here in the UK the space is at such a premium that when the stations close they get built on.
I also love the work you've done on the Ford, the purple and silver/grey combo is stunning.

Lots of pics with this post so bear with me.:dunno: I have come across several posters in the last 5 or 6 weeks so I found myself having to rearrange a good portion of the front bay to find enough wall space to display them all.

This nice 4x6 King Edwards double sided porcelain followed me home a couple weeks ago.

I've had Bob's old Sinclair coveralls hanging on the wall for the last couple years. I figured it was time to do something with them and get Clarence some help around the station.

I recently found this WWII era advertisement for a speed control device from B.F. Goodrich. I have never in my life seen anything like it and thought what are the odds someone would have one for sale on ebay...well as it turns out someone did have a few for sale and they happened to be new old stock. :rocker: The ad ran in the 12-29-1942 Perry Chief newspaper

Picked up this old metal bench at a local auction a couple weeks ago to sit on the eastside of the building. I'll clean it up and give it a fresh coat of green paint. After I got it home, I thought to myself I have this heavy painted wood sign that I'm not using for anything and it fits perfectly on that bench.

A picture with an old Thunderbird made it into the annual local calendar. It was a surprise, I didn't know anything about it until the calendar came out.

We ended 2020 with a little snow storm...not huge fan of snow, but it does make for a good picture.
